A majority of adults disagree with Trump on firing athletes who kneel ...

To me this is good news.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A majority of Americans disagree with President Donald Trump’s assertion that football players should be fired for kneeling during the national anthem, even though most say they would personally stand during the song, according to an exclusive Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday.

The Sept. 25-26 poll found that 57 percent of adults do not think the National Football League should fire players who kneel. This included 61 percent of NFL fans who watch at least a few games per season.

The results were split along party lines, however, as 82 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of Republicans disagreed with the president’s comments about firing football players.

This is the actual poll, it is in PDF form. Some other interesting questions asked as well. The poll has a credibility interval, a measure of accuracy, of 5 percentage points.

Poll is pretty interesting, only 49% of democrats believe athletes should be allowed to make political statements at sports events (TM994Y16_1) and 58% of DNC members believe athletes should have to stand (TM994Y16_2)

I honestly thought it would be a majority would have agreed with him. Glad I was wrong on this one. Certainly wish it were more than 57%.

I'm embarrassed that its only 57%

Pod Save America reported on something similar to this. The Gallup poll in support of the March on Washington was very low. People overwhelmingly thought the civil Rights movement hurt blacks. Look what happened with that. With topics like this, it will be a slow change to turn people's opinions but it doesn't hurt to right now be on the right side of things. And considering how low those numbers were with the March and the civil Rights movement, 57% right now is very good.

Edit: here you go:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-nfl-protests-may-be-unpopular-now-but-that-doesnt-mean-theyll-end-that-way/

Marches for civil rights during the 1960s were generally seen negatively at the time. As the Washington Post noted last year, most Americans didn't approve of the Freedom Riders, the March on Washington in 1963 or other similar protests. In fact, many Americans thought that these protests would hurt the advancement of civil rights. In addition, but many Americans held mixed-to-negative views of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. In a 1966 Gallup survey, 63 percent of Americans gave King a negative score on a scale from -5 to +5. Now, the civil rights marches are viewed as major successes, and just 4 percent of Americans rated King negatively on that same scale in a 2011 Gallup poll.

Not to derail, but

Trump, who once owned a pro football team in a now-defunct rival league, added that the NFL is “ruining the game” with a fixation on player safety.

The president gives fuck-all fucks about concussions, CTE, and mental illness, he just wants his bread and circus.

He tried to buy the Buffalo Bills a few years back when their owner at the time, Ralph Wilson passed, but he got outbid. I'm sure he's still bitter about it since this man-baby can't let anything go.

Err, I think you're reading the total column.

67% of Democrats think athletes should be allowed to make political statements and 39% of Democrats think they should have to stand.

A trumper at work think player safety is being "PC".

These people are dumbasses to the nth degree.

I love one of the Lebatard Show rejoins when he mockingly yells, 'yeah, be a maaaaan!! Get concussed!!"

Then again...bye weeks. Bronko Nagurski didn't get no bye weeks, and now he's dead!

It reads like a parody account of DT the president, but he really has been a publicly petty asshole for decades, he was just much easier to ignore before.

Yeah I was going to quote this same article from 538 for a different reason. They highlighted a Quinnipiac University poll that said only 38% of americans support players choosing not to stand for the anthem. Unforunately most americans right now think protestors and Trump are both crossing a line. The "keep politics out of sports" mentality is strong.
