AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D set to launch at the end of October

According to Chiphell leaker “zhangzhonghao,” who claims to have information from Gigabyte’s X870 motherboard showcase, which was also attended by AMD employees, the company is reportedly launching three X3D SKUs, but they are not coming at the same time.

The rumors about the 9000X3D series were initially sparked by AMD themselves, as their employees were eager to discuss what’s coming next for the AM5 socket. The new CPUs will have some “cool differentiators,” claimed a product manager, though this wasn’t explained in detail. Meanwhile, leakers have shared insights from board makers, who are often notified about upcoming CPU updates in advance.

This time, the 9950X3D and 9900X3D will have some new features, so they won’t be released alongside the 9800X3D. I’m guessing they’ll be available early next year. […]

It’s not just me saying this; AMD’s official representatives have also hinted at it. AMD people attended Gigabyte’s X870 launch event. Moreover, this year, there are indeed only the 9800X3D, 9950X3D, and 9900X3D, as there are new things coming next year.

When comparing the results to the previous generation, it appears we’re seeing double-digit gains across the board. We’re using recently updated data from a Guru3D review, which shows:

  • Ryzen 9 9950X3D is 10% faster in single-core and 17% faster in multi-core than Ryzen 9 7950X3D and
  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 20% faster in single-core and 28% faster in multi-core than Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

The 9800X3D should use only one CCD, with an extra 64MB on top.
The 9900X3D should use 2 CCDs, each with 6 cores. And each CCD with 64MB of extra L3.

The problem with the 9900X3D is that if a game uses more than 6 cores, it will send those extra threads to the next CCD.
And because going from one CCD to another has higher latency, it can cause a performance hit.
If gaming is important for you, it's better to go with a 9800X3D or an 9950X3D.

There also has been rumors all cores on the 9900 and 9950 will have 3d cache. If that is true, you wouldn't see as bad of a performance hit in games this time around. We shall see though.

9800X3D to be released on October 25
The news comes from an AMD agent, posted on Bilibili, but the post has already been deleted. Sales are estimated to start between November 1-5.

For people like me who use their machine for both work and gaming, you can easily get around that issue by just restricting the games to one CCD. I use ProcessLaso for this, works great. If the 9950x3D really does have 3D cache on both CCD's, I'll upgrade my 7950x to it.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU will be the successor to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The latter has been a huge success on the AM5 platform, just like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D was on the AM4 platform. While the chip is expected for a formal launch on the 7th of November as teased by the red team, we have obtained the first delidded pictures of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU from our sources, confirming one big change.

It will depend on what games you play, resolution and the GPU you have.
Supposedly, the 9800X3D will be up to 8% faster than the 7800X3D.
In this graph, we have the 12700K, but with DDR5. Maybe remove 5-10% from yours with DDR4.
So in situations where you are very CPU bound, you'll probably see around 30% extra performance.
But that won't always be the case.

P.S.: As usual, it's better to wait for independent reviews, to see real world performance.

The 1% lows will improve massively, the question is whether that's worth a platform switch + another $450 cpu on top.

This is another thing to consider, that is very important.
1% lows are noticeable, even at higher resolutions. And the 9800X3D will be much better, just because of DDR5 and all that L3 cache.
