And the sequels keep on coming (Top Gun)

Things are moving on a sequel to classic 80's blockbuster "Top Gun" reports Vulture with Paramount Pictures having sent offers out to both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott.

Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects," "Valkyrie") is being pursued to pen the script and has reportedly found a way to include Tom Cruise's Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell character in a way that's "not too obvious". Cruise has reportedly agreed to take said smaller role.

Bruckheimer mentioned he'd been approached about it back in July. Of course the story itself will be tricky as the U.S. Air Force's elite pilots don't focus anywhere near as much on aerial combat anymore.

The original grossed $353 million at the worldwide box office.

Whos ready for another Air Force recruitment movie?

Wasn't this the basic premise of Top Gun in the first place? Larger jets like the F-4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat that were designed with BVR combat in mind were getting their asses kicked in dogfights by the smaller, more agile MiGs.

EDIT: There better be a beach volleyball scene.

the climax should consist of the main character trying to land the plane on an aircraft carrier with an NES controller.

this will ensure that the film does not have a happy ending.

Wasn't Tony Scott supposed to do that Warriors remake? That was announced like 5 years ago.

They should modernize the story and have it be set in a control room for Predator drones. :lol

:lol I think I've successfully done that twice after hundreds of attempts.

One of the awesome things about Top Gun is that the navy helped them out with all of the real flying footage and there was A LOT. I can almost smell the CG coming from this dumb idea of a sequel, so if there isn't a lot of real footage of the jets than forget this shit.

I think all these remakes are a secret plan inside hollywood.
"Let's remake movies that did well in the past, yet are so bad people won't even resort to downloading them"

If you go to see this you are only helping them continue to spew out this shit.

You really think USAF will pass up a chance to show how awesome they are? I can almost guarantee the only parts that will be CG will be when a plane blows up.

You may be right (I hope you are)! I'm just worried they are gonna pull a "behind enemy lines" style shit and if you've seen this movie you'll know what I'm saying(f-18 getting chased by missiles for like 3 minutes). Its just the way tons of movies have been trending lately. I'm also sick of all these 80s sequels and reboots to be honest. I love Top Gun(my dad worked at Grumman for years on the F-14) but I just hate seeing them dig up a movie that really doesn't need a sequel or reboot.

It'll be intresting to see what the soundtrack will be like, the first movie is probably most notable for launching the songs "Danger Zone" and "Take My Breath Away"...

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Shia LeBeouf as the new young pilot. *groan*

Paramount's scraping the old catalogue for potential blockbusters since they won't have the Marvel movies after 2012.

And? They're acting like the movie has to be based in reality.
