Could sony release the PS6 for less than the PS5 pro?

PS4/PS4 Pro (disc) $400
PS5 (digital) $400
PS5 (disc) $500
PS5 Pro (digital) $700

Given the trend and another 3 years worth of inflation (assuming fall 2027), and people expect PS6 to be less than $700?

The past 6 pages have not convinced me, honestly.

There's a difference between a product meant to be a mass marketed product and one that's meant to be a "limited" selling product. How people can't tell the difference is blowing my mind. If Sony released the PS6 for $700 or more........they'd be telling the world the days of 100 million unit console sell rates are over! And why would Sony go that route? To what end? And for what goal?

Because getting a generational improvement won't be cheap.

Then just wait longer. If they release the PS6 in the Fall of 2028, that's 8 years removed from the PS5. Surely we'd see a generational leap from the PS5 by then. Lets just be honest here. We'd be looking at......

- At least 24 GBs of RAM
- Around 40 TFs of GPU power
- 3nm Zen5 CPU processor
- RDNA 4 GPU
- PSSR 2.0 or even PSSR 3.0
- Dedicated AI hardware
- Dedicated RT hardware
- 2 TBs of SSD space

Maybe all of that will sell for $600 (without a disc drive) at the MOST. But I expect the PS6 to sell without a disc drive for $500 with EVERYTHING I listed above. They'd be stupid not to.

I’m gonna take a shot in the dark….

PS6: 500 bucks

PS6 pro : 800 bucks

Disc drive: sold seperate for both models.

They have to, or will be PS3 launch all over again. And first they'll need to price cut the PS5 Pro by a lot.
As long as they have no direct competition from Xbox it won’t matter. Next Xbox may not be more of a pC hybrid. It will only be bought by loyal Xbox. Everybody else just gonna have to sip that 500…. Maybe even 600 dollar at launch, PS6 kool aid.

The beauty of a console is not having to give a f for 5-8 years
I hear ya, but I think the problem is these consoles never really seem powerful enough at launch. The only reason we have so many 60FPS games on console is because so many of them were also designed to run on last generation systems too. Let’s devs scale things accordingly but had this been a gen where devs push current consoles from the jump we would have had a lot more technically disappointing games in terms of frame rate and and native 4K. Now everybody is looking at AI up scaling ti be the silver bullet to save this gen. If nothing else it just shows how quickly static hardware designs can get left behind by the demands of devs.

They are powerful enough. You just can't mandate every game to be 60fps. Or that every game be 4K resolution. Once you go x86, devs were always gonna figure out how to max the systems out faster. The "REAL" problem is now the budgets for games. Not the tech.

No. The tariffs will have come in by then.

It'll easily be headed towards the $900 mark, if not over it.

Unfortunately, a comprehensive conversation about this is now impossible, given how much it inevitably has to steer into politics and the future policies of the US government.

Lol guys, even switch2 which is literally whole gen behind ps5pr0(since leaks point at it being similary powerful to ps4pr0 docked, ps4base in handheld mode) powerwise and it will still be at the least 500$ in 2025, now 3 to 3,5years later console that will be many times(since ps5pr0 is 4x more powerfull even if we estimate 3x of that, thats 12x) stronger will cost only 100$ more?

Remember microsoft dropped the ball hard already, pc parts are expensive af, especially gpu's , sony wont have any real competition in fall 2028 so they will have literally 0 reason to put ps6 at competetive price, it will be expensive af, dunno if 600 w/o discdrive or even 1k, depends what tech is inside, but literally 0 reason for sony to go cheap.

U know when sony went cheap? And i mean both hardware and software prices-with first playstation coz they had saturn to compete with, then when ninny launched theirs n64 sony machine got dirtcheap, to make sure customers have no doubt which product to go for, in 2028 customers will have to go with sony or buy 2x more expensive pc...

Spoilers- expect standard big AAA game price to go up from 70 to 80usd at least too by next gen :p

Two SKUs again. I'm gonna go, $699 with a disc drive and $599 without.

They gotta really sell people on the hardware.

I hope it's 10 years away.
We don't need PS6. In fact we should be on PS4 still. PS5 is unnecessary. We got better loading times, that's it.
