EA Sports predicts Argentina to win 2022 World Cup( been correct since 2010)

Lionel Messi has never lifted the World Cup trophy, but EA Sports foresees him finally getting his chance next month.

The video game mogul released its simulation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup using “FIFA 23” on Tuesday with Argentina coming out on top. Messi and Co. claim the title in the simulation by beating their top rival, Brazil, in the final.

It may just be a video game simulation, but EA Sports has been spot-on with its predictions over the last three tournaments. The company correctly predicted Spain to win it all in 2010, Germany as champs in 2014 and France’s triumph in 2018. While none of those victories were shocking, it bodes well for Argentina’s chances in Qatar.

EA Sports has Argentina and Poland making it out of Group C with Mexico and Saudi Arabia bowing out before the knockout stage. From there, Argentina is predicted to beat Denmark 2-1 in the round of 16, the Netherlands 1-0 in the quarterfinals and France 1-0 in the semifinals before toppling Brazil 1-0 in the final. Argentina has not faced Brazil, the No. 1 team in FIFA’s latest world rankings, in a World Cup since 1990.

The simulation sees Messi lead Argentina in a major way. The four-time “FIFA” cover athlete scored eight goals across seven simulated matches, edging the Netherlands' Memphis Depay and France’s Kylian Mbappé for the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards. Messi said in early October that the 2022 World Cup would be his last.

Elsewhere in the bracket, the U.S. men’s national team not only advanced past the group stage – it reached the quarterfinals.

EA Sports had England and the USMNT making it out of Group B. While England fell to the Netherlands in the round of 16, the Americans beat Senegal 2-1 before falling to France by a score of 1-0 in the quarters.

For hockey, they predicted:

2019 Leafs (lost first round)
2020 Oilers (lost covid year qualifying round, which technically means didn't even make the playoffs)
2021 Avs (lost second round)
2022 Panthers (lost second round)
2023 Penguins (LOL)

It seems EA wants you to fail.

I mean, it's not derogatory when the country has a shitty economy and Steam rises its prices by 500% in said country.
Don't take it personal, EU people still joke how they get f up with prices and how they'll freeze this winter, and I don't think it's sociopath or mentally ill people, chill dude.

Oh God no. We already have neverending comments saying Messi is the GOAT. Some naysayers (like myself) only deny him the title because he's never won the WC (not me, whether he wins it or not). If he wins it they can't deny it anymore.

Imo he's great, but GOAT he is not. You can get to the final and entertain us with good football. But please don't win it.

Isnt Argentina like stacked this World Cup? I think they’ll win it as well.

Up front in attack, sure, but not so much in other positions.

I personally predict Brazil to win it. That's a team that are stacked with quality in every position.

My own nation, England, will be lucky to get out of the group. We've played the most boring, uninspired football recently that we've become painful to watch.

They're the hottest team right now and are playing at a peak. I hope they win. Messi's already top player ever status but this would amazing for him and Argentina.

Damn, they have to get through some stiff competition if they want to win the world cup. it's certainly possible, but both Netherlands and France could also very well stop Argentina in their tracks.

Messi is a drugs cheat and should be banned from the game with all achievements and trophy's null and void. He's bin on human growth hormone (HGT) Since he was a 4ft2inch 14 year old.

I think for decades Argentina had a great pedigree in the big tournaments.

That has waned somewhat more recently, much like Brazil, and they have struggled to really leave their mark.

As gifted as Messi is he can't do it alone.

Personally, I don't see Argentina winning the tournament.

I have a feeling we will see an outsider, a team that is not in the conversation, go all the way and win it this time.

For the first time I don't know who is a clear candidate to win it.

2010? Spain was easily on top, with their Barca engine. 2014 Germany were the most consistent team by far. 2018 was easy to predict France, who had the best squad by far. But now idk. European teams aren't at the top of their game, Italy isn't even there. It seems Brazil and Argentina are pointed as the big favourites, but I don't know if they can do it.

Its interesting as my girlfriend is from Argentina. And its very possible to meet in the QF if both teams win their group (which should be doable, both Holland and Argentina have an easy group) and second round is likely USA for us which is not an impossible hurdle either. In that case I do think Argentina are slight faves.

Holland idk. I worry about the state of our players. Virgil doesn't have his best season, the same goes for De Vrij, de Ligt, Memphis. Frenkie seems to have regained form just now. But we are in Nations League semis, the squad regained its confidence and game plan under LvG, which they lost when Frank de Boer was at the helm. No real superstars, but in 2010 and 2014 we didn't have many either and we had good campaigns.

I’m from the UK, but I think it would make a great story if Argentina won and would be the perfect swan-song for Messi’s illustrious career. Plus, as a Man U fan, I’m interested in seeing how ‘The Butcher’ Martinez gets on.

All that said, my money is on either Brazil or Spain this year.

Whatever the case, I’ll be singing along with Skinner and Baddiel again until we are inevitably knocked out by penalties.

in my tournament in FIFA 23 argentina got put out by denmark in the last 16 so it's a lot of shite. unless EA is running their simulation on something else.

In all the World Cups Messi has been in for the past 12 years, there is some big pressure on him to win it this time......one thing is for sure nobody expects France to retain the trophy.....question is where do they fall, more so without Benzema

Well let’s hope they’re wrong this time. Work gave me France on a sweepstake and I’m pretty happy with that. There’s £75 in it for me if they win!

Well this prediction aged nicely considering what happened today.
to be fair, it's a long road and it's happened quite a few times before when the eventual winner loses their first match. Still not a great start for them.
