Actually surprised theres a modicrum of game selling for Xbox there. But as usual, none of them beat ToK. I believe D4 gonna suffer from the same fate as SF6, easly losing momentum afterwards.

Now this is a very interesting week.

One of the two of the biggest surprises here is Diablo 4. Not the software side, as those sales are nothing to write home about, but the influence it had on the hardware. It is very clearly the reason why Series sold so well this week, and the probable reason why on the bump the PS5 got. See Woopah Woopah ? Thats the kind of bump I was refering to.And it came from Diablo lol.

Street Fighter 6 had an excellent hold! Maybe the legs will conpensate the poor launch? 6 being a much better game certainly points towards that.

The second biggest surprise this week is that Switch is almost 30% up WOW for no apparent reason lol. That's the power of Zelda I guess.

This week makes me wonder how much better third party would sell(Like Diablo 4 and Street Fighter 6) if they had a Switch version. Yes yes, the reason they aren't there is due to not being able to run on it, but I would imagine if they could, their sales would be exponentially higher. Like 3 or 4 times higher, at least.

But overall, this was a great week for everyone, especially the Switch. Its been too long since we had a week like this.

I think we are close enough to FF XVI launch that we can now speculate how much it will do physically first week.

COMG numbers as of today for XVI is at 100 points. Assuming that it ends somewhere near 120 points, I think its fair to assume that XVI should sell somewhere between 120k to 240k physically first week, which would be a disastrous performance for a FF game in Japan, even if you assume that the digital split is 50%. I think the lowest selling mainline FF, and that's physical only, is around 700k.

So what are your guys prediction for the first week sales of XVI?

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Thank God there is a huge global market for the PS5. If it depended on the japanese market we would get no games.

Tbh Nintendo shouldn’t release hardware until they see where switch sales fall this Fall/Winter….. if they are outselling ps5 world wide it’s Truely a testimate to how perfectly right they got the handheld hybrid formula…. No wonder Sony is trying to get a handheld out there again.

I'm assuming the Series X increase is due to the Diablo 4 bundle. Also suspecting that most of those are scalped units being purchased by people in places like China, and probably imported by some in the West in locations where the bundle might be scarcely available.

Where did those Xbox numbers come from? Diablo IV is also on PS5 and PC so this is unexpected.

Xbox is the only one with a hardware bundle, that is the main difference.

The question IMO though is how many are being scalped by other nearby countries or the such; you don't go from 150 a week for several months to almost 9K with a natural demand increase that can be sustained for lengthy periods of time. If demand was there for 9K in a week, we would have been seeing a regular weekly of at least 2.5K for the past several months, not 100-200 units.

I think we are close enough to FF XVI launch that we can now speculate how much it will do physically first week.

I still say XVI will be more a slow burner in Japan. Opening numbers may not be high by standards of previous entries but word of mouth will help get the sales going at a continued rate alongside smart advertising.

Still kind of think them talking so soon about a PC port was putting their foot in their mouth, the earlier messaging there has left things muddied and a lot of people are prob thinking the PC version is still coming 6 months later, due to initial talk, in spite of clarifications. They honestly should've waited until 3-4 months out from the PC version being ready before mentioning anything beyond "potential PC release at a future date".

Solid ps5 performance, xbox rises from. The grave , but the switch sales are nuts, I was expecting like a 50k baseline, not this madness

Very interesting week I have to say. All Switch models doing even better, PS5 got an 8k bump and a huge increase for Series X due to the Diablo IV bundle.
Also, pretty good hold for Street Fighter 6.

It's a good hold but it is still lower numbers than SFV from what I remember.

Although digital may account for a higher share than it did for SFV back during its launch (in fact this is almost 100% the case).

If anything it shows what I was saying about weekly hardware sales not being tied to these lower level releases. Diablo 4 and SFIV sold very similar amounts on PS5, and yet what the hardware did was very very different. The boost that PS5 got this week is actually smaller than the boost it got in week 18, a week in which there were no PS5 games in the top 15.

Meanwhile Switch got just got a massive boost without any new game in the top 10 at all.

Say for example that Diablo had come out on Switch. We could be sitting here saying "wow Dibalo gave a massive boost to Switch!" when in reality Switch's hardware performance had nothing to do with Diablo.

Correlation does not = causation.
PS4 and 3DS tho...

PS4 is massively up YoY and Switch is nearly at 24.6 million, so some good news for them too!

Switch won't outsell PS5 worldwide this year, and even if it does, Nintnedo won't change its plans for the successor around that. This will help Nintendo hit their 15 million target though.

Lets just agree to disagree!

Xbox stock shortages were real possibly.
Games people want move consoles.
Dont care how it got there nice to see Xbox back on the charts.

Xbox consoles to see possibly 20k to 40k sells Starfield week.

Wait is that $426 for the Series X Diablo 4 bundle!? Man the yen is in the gutter or MSFT are doing heavy discounts for the SX.
That’s just because of the exchange rate. Also that 60,000 yen price doesn’t include the 10% tax so it is more like 66,000 yen.

When XSX launched it was 50,000 yen (55,000 w/tax). Last year/earlier this year? MS raised the price 5,000 yen, like Sony did a few months earlier. This new bundle includes D4 for an extra 5,000 yen on top of that.
Not bad since you can actually buy an XSX now. Previously they were super rare to be able to buy.
I bought mine at launch (pre-order) for the original price from the MS store.

The lower value of the yen also affects the PS5 as it is the exact same price of the XSX. 60,000 yen w/tax which is $425 at the current exchange rate.
(10,000 yen lower for the digital edition)

Dominating the realistic racing SIM market in Japan on traditional home consoles. Super legs!
From June 2nd - June 12th Sony had their Days of Play promotion going on as well. On the PSN store as well as in other participating stores such as Amazon.
There were several games discounted including GT7.

https://www.famitsu.com/news/202306/02304738.html

I almost bought Death Stranding DC as it was only 2,000 yen. Thought about Ghosts of Tsushima DC as well, but decided to wait.

I highly doubt that Street Fighter 6 can't run on Switch. It's a fighting game, they can reduce a lot of the asset quality to get there if they wanted.

Maybe. If that's the case, it would be a mistake by Capcom's part.

But the Switch 2 should be out next year, and if it indeed make the power difference negligeble, making porting easier, or make games as the Switch 2 as a base viable, then I won't stress over this.

Prob, I do think Switch 2 is 2024.

So next week there should be good again thanks to pre FFXVI boost and the week after is FFXVI itself?

I don't think anyone thought the PS5 would end up just shy of 4M LTD at the mid point of the year. Super hyped to see a traditional home console sell over 2M units in a calender year again. The Wii and PS2 were probably the last to do so?

The Switch already did so.
