[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "PowerPro 2024-2025" tops the charts for the fifth consecutive week! With cumulative sales of PS5 approaching 6 million units, the impact of price revisions is a concern [8/19-8/25]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of the estimated weekly sales of game software and hardware from August 19 to August 25, 2024.
Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025 continues to perform well, selling over 10,000 units this week. Cumulative sales reached 266,189 copies, making it the top spot for the fifth consecutive week.

This title is the 30th anniversary of the series and boasts the largest volume in history, and will be updated regularly even after its release. The third update distributed on August 22, 2024 adjusted the game balance of each mode and fixed bugs making it easier to play.

From second place onwards the regulars in the top ten are lined up and as expected titles featuring characters from the Super Mario series are popular with four titles including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe making the list. Nintendo Switch Sports which has increased sales since the summer vacation season and returned to the top, is also doing well ranking third this week as it did last week.

Meanwhile, looking at the hardware the PlayStation 5 sales are steadily increasing and it is expected to exceed 6 million units in cumulative sales next week. However, it is also interesting to see how the price revision to be implemented from September 2, 2024 will affect future sales.

I wonder what happened with the XSX. In the previous Famitsu sales report, it was tracked at 4.5K units sold, and now in this new report it has dropped all the way to 225. Did they also have a price bump for the hardware as recently as last week?

This is a physical only chart

That's my point...

Many have argued that Famitsu captures digital sales as well, yet it's clear that they do not. It's also clear that globally over 70% of sales are digital... Japan being more or less in line with that suggests relying on famitsu charts that don't capture digital at all is entirely folly.

10k topping the charts isn't great. I doubt the 2D Zelda is going to sell millions there. Guess the Switch is going to limp on for over half a year until the Switch 2 hits and games sell nuts as all new owners by them.

More evidence that famitsu charts are worthless for software. Wukong didn't get a physical release but it's #3 on the PS Store in Japan and isn't present here.
It's worthless for digital only games, not for ones with a physical release.

Everyone knows these numbers are physical only.

Echoes of Wisdom likely won't, but potentially DQIII remake and Super Mario Jamboree could potentially sell over 1 million in Japan.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
It amazes me that the Switch hasn't quite hit a saturation point yet. Software selling well too. We will soon be entering the Switch's eighth year... year fucking eight people.. that's crazy.. and the Switch 2 hasn't even been announced yet.

You've said previously that you thought they estimated digital. They don't, period.

Famitsu is worthless until they adapt.

Unlike Switch games PS5 games are heavily digital. The Switch has limited digital storage and many people buy games as gifts on physical. It's an apples and oranges comparison.

The estimate the physical retailers they don't have direct access to. That's what's in these charts that are posted here.

Famitsu's digital estimates are something seperate and no one uses them or posts them.

Switch games have a digital ratio between 30% and 70% depending on the circumstances, but yes the average is lower than for PS5.

Famitsu charts are still useful information. Just like the charts that include digital most games but not for Nintendo first party games are still useful.

Looks like there would be a huge gap between Wukong and other PS5 software this week. The Konami baseball game for PS5/PC should do well though.
