Gamereactor UK: Nintendo Switch 2 should release around June and sell for more than 400 euros (Samus Hunter backup the information)

According to former Gamereactor editor Juan A. Fonseca as per gathered from various sources on Nintenduo, the supposed Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive around June 2025 (maybe July) for a price between 400 and 500 euros.

Nintendo has declined to comment on this new information. Given the tipster's usual reliability, the launch of Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo ends up calling the new console, can for now be assumed to be in the summer of 2025 release window, barring any last-minute changes.

Meh. Leaks mean nothing to me, even if they end up being legit. I want all of the official specs. I came back to Nintendo this gen and I was excited to do so, but I ended up disappointed.

So basically the price of a ps5. Will be hard sell.

Here's a thread for you to read:

This rumour is bulshit, they are just guessing the price and lunch date 😂, can’t see it being more than 399. This is the most boring Nintendo console in a long time, if all rumours are true, even the Wii u had more interesting hardware features.

June? that would be a very weird release window.

I don't think I've ever seen a console launch right in the middle of the year.

it's always between September and march as far back as I can remember.
so for that date alone I absolutely do not trust this rumour until some really hard evidence drops.

It will certainly be successful, but it's going to be a bit harder of a sell for multiconsole households with kids to justify getting several $400 dollar switches. You'll likely see a lot more of the younger ones getting Switch hand me downs while slowing out sales. I'm going to make the bold prediction that the Switch 2 doesn't catch up in sales to the first one.

Hmm I already payed like equivalent to $420 when I bought my Switch during the shortage in early COVID days so I wouldn't be surprised but June release? no fucking way.

I'm sure fanboys wrote the same before wii u launch
There's literally no reason to believe the next Switch will have the same fate as Wii U.

Their marketing completely failed in showing why Wii U was even successor to the first Wii.

Switch has sold 40M more than the Wii for starters. Wii was basically a thing because of motion controls and peaked really fast...something Switch didn't.

Nintendo is also now doing home consoles + portable together so that's something that Wii U didn't have to its advantage. The next Switch will start as a monster in terms of sales for at least 2 or 3 years. No doubt about it.

So probably £450-500 in the UK. Can't see myself getting this next year, although it they announce a Mario Odyssey successor then I'm not sure if I'll be able to resist. We'll see.

$400 US, $550 CA, €480-500 including VAT, and £450 UK?

Oof, that kind of bites, but will sell well, at least initially.

Edit: If tariffs kick in, no idea how much US price would be then.

not paying anything over £400 for it.

maybe if there was a new main Zelda and/or Pokemon at launch but doesn't seem like it. I'll wait for the inevitable OLED/Lite model refresh a couple years later.
Another 400$ underpowered tablet.
you're in 2024 and complaining about Nintendo performance? it's old and boring..... don't buy it. go spend $700 on a PS5 Pro if you want to waste more money.

Even if it bores you, I still have the right to share my expectations. I will decide what I buy myself. And that will certainly not be a PS5 Pro. Most useless console to come to exist.

of course you can but again it's old and boring.

you shouldn't really compare nintendo to PS/Xbox. The step up in graphics/performance from 3DS to Switch was huge. I'm not saying Switch 1 to 2 will be as significant but you know Nintendo aren't gonna be putting in the latest and greatest hardware (not that PS/Xbox does). The Switch 2 will mostly be the same with some more RAM (8-12GB) and an updates SoC capable of 1440-2160p and if we're lucky DLSS. It might still even have a 720p screen with support for 1440-2160p output docked. If at 1440-1800p it will probably upscale to 2160p. That seems like a reasonable upgrade for Switch 2.

Not at all. Can’t play Nintendo games on a PS5, which is the main reason to buy a Switch in the first place.
Playing Nintendo games didn’t really help the Wii U or every other failed console they put out, did it?

Nintendo’s biggest strength is not actually its software. That only takes them so far as has been seen several times. Their major strength is hardware. That is what has always propelled their business historically. What did the Wii, DS, and Switch have in common? Novel, compelling hardware at an affordable price relative to the competition. Switch 2 at 400+ is not cheap so Nintendo will have to cook up something really special in terms of hardware to achieve anything remotely comparable to Switch 1.

PlayStation 5 with GTA VI will be probably 349 or 299 next holiday.

Nintendo going for almost 500 sure it's interesting.

So I will have my final judgement once the thing is officially announced, but I have a hard time imagining that I would pay more than 400 for a Nintendo console.

I feel like if it's not $399 or less, Nintendo didn't make the right compromises. If Steam Deck can hit $399 then so can Nintendo.

For some reason I thought this was "obvious" lol.

Maybe I just got to that conclusion a while ago and just convinced myself of it, I mean, they're announcing it this FY, but it has to be next year and I don't think they can release it in April, it's too close to announcement. They won't also release it this FY because Furukawa said nothing about it and they're still counting on around 13M Switch units sold, so I can only see this being announced on February (or late January) and released mid year in the Summer.

what...this will be sold out in no time and probably break all records at that price and as a Switch successor.
Well, if we look at history, that's not going to be the case. Whenever Nintendo has just done an iterative successor, it has never matched the success of its more revolutionary predecessor.

For home consoles you have NES>SNES>N64>GameCube. Then came the Wii, which did better than the Wii U. For handhelds you have GameBoy performing better than the Advance. The DS performing better than the 3DS.

Now, the Switch looks to become their greatest success. Do you really think Switch 2 will buck this trend?

That's just because Nintendo's successes has reached such heights that lightning can't strike twice.

Nintendo can't recreate a world where they release BotW and Odyssey back to back, not easily. They can't create a world where you can sell a full handheld Switch 2 lite for 199 out the door, buy one for each kid.

Not gonna happen.

However, if you are trying to say these trends go against Nintendo, bwahahaha. The "trends" show Nintendo always floats back to the top of the industry even when everyone in the world is saying they will fail.

In this world there are winners and losers. Nintendo is a winner. That's the trend haters should be concerned with.

Will be interesting to see if they can break the curse.

You know, I kind of wonder what the Wii U equivalent thread is like. Probably full of "the Wii was so popular it's gonna sell out forever!"

As long as the games are good, people will buy it. I’d like to just have a much better performing Switch with faster loading times. Brand new games are just the icing on the cake.

It’ll sell. It for sure sell.

Considering how dead Wii was before Wii U even launched it felt sort of like a fad. But I did not expect Wii U to crash and burn as hard as it did. Switch 2 will face more handheld competition so it'll be interesting to see how well it does, but I think it can ride on the momentum of Switch 1 as long as it has great games coming to it. Nintendo has kept games coming to it even now in its "final" year, which stands in stark contrast to Wii.
