I'm 101% sure if Uncharted 2 was released today, it wouldn't get a 96 Metascore.
Why? Because most "console" gamers these days are former PC/WoW gamers, so all they wanna play is yet another Soulsborne clone, or an open-world RPG collectathon.
That's why they say "we" don't need more games like Uncharted or Indy. They definitely don't speak for all of us (longtime PS3 fans).
Tight non-open world narrative experiences are in an odd spot right now where it feels like people want to shove them into AA, because a large amount of AAA now are full of open fields and bloat.I'm 101% sure if Uncharted 2 was released today, it wouldn't get a 96 Metascore.

Of course it is reviewing well. Have we already forgotten Veilgard? I am far more curious what GAF thinks about the game. Did they stay true to the character and the setting? Or have they snuck in a bunch of crap for "Modern Audiences"? Considering how much the game costs and how many other games there are to play, I do not plan to grab this anytime soon. But I am interested in it as long as they have made a true Indiana Jones game and not some preachy garbage.

I also don’t know if a game with a 360 Gears/Mass Effect-style level structure (not many puzzles and level design that mainly pushes you forward with enemy encounters and narrative) would be received as well today as it was back then.
I have no idea who that guy is, but I know plenty of PC/WoW people who jumped to consoles and they only wanna play Soulsborne-like or Ubisoft-like games.
Fuck you talkin about willus

Yeah, forums are great.Think so, huh? Everyone's got an opinion I suppose.

These guys tend to have serious OCD issues (completionism, platinum trophy hunting). It's a deep psychological issue that affects the video game industry in a really bad way.
So when do us GPU peasants, without early access get our hands on. Do we know what time tomorrow?
After watching multiple bits. I'm not a huge fan of all the stealth focus and lack of gunplay. But I think the atmosphere and story paired with a technically great 60fps 1800p. With excellent HDR too. Will be good enough for me. I like that its something a bit different too and with a first person perspective.
People think that a tight, linear experience of 15-20 hours isn't worth the price of admission.
They justify full price only if the game is a 100-hour long open world collectathon with lots of garbage to collect & craft.
The irony: most people don't even finish these long ass games... industry veterans like Amy Hennig and Shawn Layden have admitted it.
I don't think democracy (listening to the masses) works that well in the tech space... as Steve Jobs had said "the customer doesn't really know what the fuck he wants".

And you can always get Game Pass for 14 days or 1 month, no need to buy it.
I agree with your points and only half-agree with your final point. I don’t think democracy itself is the issue with gaming. The exact moment I knew we were in for a rough time was when both journalists and gamers suddenly equated time spent to monetary value. It screwed everything up.People think that a tight, linear experience of 15-20 hours isn't worth the price of admission.

Those same gamers’ tastes changed over the years. I mean hell look at social media or this forum compared to 10ish years ago. Entirely different talking points, wants, and needs. The only reason some people are just now starting to become tired of open world is because the collective age of gamers increased to the mid 30s. Not enough time in the day anymore because there are more adult gamers than kid gamers. You are aware the majority of Sony and Xbox console fans have all come from the Ps1 and OG Xbox consoles and some of the biggest hits on those consoles are linear single player narrative games, so mate you be talking bollocks.
I just finished Still Wakes the Deep and it only took about 5hrs or so and tbh it was bloody perfect, the pacing and runtime for UC2 and TLOU1 are sooo much better than UC4 & TLOU2 even though I loved them they could've shaved a lot of them, I'm more a 20hr MAX kinda guyI agree with your points and only half-agree with your final point. It was a knee-jerk reaction people decided to have to some games (the less polished ones) feeling like half-ass experiences at 6-10 hours of length. Little did they know that a half-ass game will still feel like a half-ass game at 40+ hours, just now with added boring grind.
There are now so many big budget games with horrible pacing issues simply because they want to offer every open world checkbox instead of being more focused experiences. I could name quite a few games that would have been much better off without all of the added busywork.
yep, The animations and the character design are weirdly stylized. The photo-realism looks great but the animations look weird.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but many people who used to play console (and not PC-like) games 20-25-30 years ago no longer play games at all. They won't bother with 100-hour long collectathons. They don't even know what DLC or Season Pass means. They're out of the loop. You are aware the majority of Sony and Xbox console fans have all come from the Ps1 and OG Xbox consoles and some of the biggest hits on those consoles are linear single player narrative games, so mate you be talking bollocks
I remember people crying back when Heavy Rain was released that it had such a short duration... I mean, did they even try the alternative endings? The exact moment I knew we were in for a rough time was when both journalists and gamers suddenly equated time spent to monetary value. It screwed everything up.

This post deaerves the Irony of The Year Award 2024I mistyped one number. All of you jumping on that like a big thing smacks of insecurity. I made a general comment about the state of optimization, that hasn't been denied about this game or others.
Laugh if you want, but it sounds childish and pathetic to me.
Then maybe the overall product outweighs the minor issues that some are having. Seems like the majority of people like the game. Reviewers and gamers both.Because even the most positive reviews mention glitches, clunky combat, bad stealth, bad AI, shaky side quests and hindering design quirks.
It’s a MachineGames game first.Because it’s an Xbox game you dummy.
There is no distinction. It’s a MachineGames game first.
yep,. looks off. I don't know if it's the skin rendering/shaders or face proportions.Huh?

after watching again, It feels like a movie with bad cgi/green screen.yep, The animations and the character design are weirdly stylized.
You could tell Veilguard was crap from the get go with their stupid announcement trailerOf course it is reviewing well. Have we already forgotten Veilgard? maybe it's the eyes. but there is some uncanny valley in the way they made humans in this game.maybe it's the jaw
I fucking love it when you go all technical on us.yep,. looks off. I don't know if it's the skin rendering/shaders or face proportions.
There is no distinction.
Let’s be real if this was still a third party studio no one would be going to bat against it.
it was just a comment don't get all zommieI fucking love it when you go all technical on us.
Right, clearly no one cares about Indiana Jones as a franchise. And nobody would be going to bat for it, by that logic

That's not what's in question. People are free to like or not like the game. It’s not like this game is peerless or without divisive aspects. Just because it’s Indy doesn’t mean it lives up to everyone’s expectations
Paris is a massive green rat and rated it like a 7?
Every game ever, certain games are just a little bit more refined that's all.maybe it's the eyes. but there is some uncanny valley in the way they made humans in this game.
so, it's not a style decision but tech/budget related? ... maybe you are right.Every game ever, certain games are just a little bit more refined that's all.
Doesn’t negate the point I was making.
Gotta unlock that lady from from Indy 5 firstI guess it is impossible to land a punch in the fight at the beginning.
i was watching the luke stephens video about it; it is not only the RayTracing, but all the supersampling shit just to make the game run at the "standard quality". If that is the case, i don't think Steam reviews are going to be happy.

Yes they would, because it's got great reviews and the games great.
That apparently doesn’t matter to you, based on other titles you call turds

The first 2 points are me down to a tee to be honest. Although its not really game length with linear games, but rather the lineality itself. I find it hard playing a massive open world game where you can do what you want, go where you want, etc, then playing a rigid linear game.People think that a tight, linear experience of 15-20 hours isn't worth the price of admission.

Why are you still yapping in this thread? We all know you hate the game without playing it while there are dozens of reviews and user hands-on opinions telling the opposite.
There's nothing to satisfy these fanboys. Even if the game is coming to your precious plastic blue box as well.
James you're an Indy fan. Go into the game looking for a Indy game that is a ton of fun. Take the console war glasses off and remember its coming to PS5 in a few months.I don’t hate the game. I’m going to likely buy it. The reviews are good, though there are definitely some that have a lot of negative things to say. I may be able to overlook them
It looks well produced, and features a different gameplay take that isn’t featured as prominently in most games
But I don’t buy into the idea that it’s likely to be true GOTY quality or has “scope” beyond an ND title. Anyone buying into these claims is setting themselves up for disappointment
