It's not Veilguard bad, though. 90% of it is pure Indiana Jones punching and whipping dudes in the face. I hate DEI, but I don't see an overdose of it in this game. I like how you arrive at Italy in some castle and just start ripping people apart like it's something everyone else does while visiting there.

So my level headed, console agnostic take, I don't think it's GOTY, but it's pretty reasonably in the top 5, especially as far as AAA goes in a year that didn't have a lot of AAA hits.

I was watching penguinz0 playing it and it looked so bad. The AI was dumb as rocks and they didn't even look at him as he was grappling the chandelier with his whip. The whole idea seemed hilarious, in fact the entirety of what I saw seemed pretty silly and unpolished . This looked like a 6/10 game by the 30 min. slice I looked at so I'm actually surprised it is doing so well.

Good summary. Machine Games definitely did more things with Indy than ND did with Uncharted. Each area is a bit of an open world with its own side quests and such. Naughty Dog did some of that with TLOU 2 in that one larger open area. I'd imagine ND would expand on that in their next game much like what MG has done here. That is probably the aspect of Indy I enjoy the most. Combat, not as much, but that isn't to say it is bad either. Just not my personal favorite
I said in the OT that I think it is in my top three behind Metaphor and Astro Bot and I'm sticking with that so far. I think it certainly will win some GOTY from some outlets, especially Xbox aligned ones. At the same time, I'm wondering what the hell happened with Pure Xbox. 6/10? That's crazy.

I remain impressed by the PC optimisation here. With everything maxxed out I get a comfortable 60fps on quiet mode on my laptop (Legion Pro w/ 7945hx and 4090) This is in contrast to most new games that struggle with this when maxxed out. Bump up to auto or performance mode and I'm over 90 all the time.

Finally made it to Egypt. Still early, but at this rate, this will be my GotY. The IP really carries it for sure, but I'm enjoying the smaller details in the game. Something about seeing a 40-year-old guy grunting while slowly climbing up walls connects with me. LOL. All the music and sound triggers timed with the puzzle solution moments and new location reveals (including all the cool lighting opportunities) really sell the mood of the game too. The game has a few quirks, but so far, it kicks ass. I hope it does well enough to warrant a sequel.

It's funny that you guys are too busy seeing yourself in a dig about insecurity
to clock the game's most significant actual attempt to revise Indy for the politically correct; the moment he gives an artifact back to Nawal and says to put it one of HER museums -- an effort to remediate Indy's colonial grave robbing that makes up so much of his adventures. I didn't mind it, as it felt kind of earned based on earlier dialog, but it's still the clearest attempt to "fix" Indy.

Dude you don't have to bring down the movies to praise the game, willie was hilarious, her screaming was always during a comic relief scene and her being kinda of a cunt was a perfect match for a dude like indy (that is also kinda of a cunt, let's be real), and her reaction were pretty on point given the situation, her background and the fact that indy basically force a whole adventure on her, and let's not speak about which between the 2 look like a real woman and who look like yet another suspect uglifying work of a beatiful real life actress.
If you don't want people to trash the game because of sbi or whatever, at least have the decency to not shit on cult classic movies just to make the game look better.

not sure what they're doing with the character textures / filters but at points it almost looks FMV, looks very good, not quite overcoming uncanny valley vibes br definitely a step further than i've seen before.

An old deaf priest being a less than tertiary character with a couple of lines and having an entire fucking mission with miles deaf girfriend are not the same thing.
A throw away line about insecure males doesn't beat the verbal diarreha during the (conveniently) longest boss fight of the game against scream where you have to hear peter being emasculated, it doesn't even come close.
If that and making the sidechick uglier is the entire amount of dei stuff the game has, it's nowhere near sp2 level.
