Persona 3/4 made SMT relevant. It's riding off that popularity.
Persona her power
...Some people would probably get mad at this comment, but hey I'm happy if more people branch out to the other games as well.

Persona her power
With P4G being one of the best selling Persona games, I think its clear that the series has grown in popularity since Persona 4.

But someone made a post almost exactly like that earlier lol. I seriously feel it to be true. :/ also Persona is SMT too so there's that! This SMT looks in a way like Persona too. Well to me. It's cute the clothes/customization

That's kinda true but its not like the series were ever all that far from each other sales-wise.

More success means higher priority and bigger budgets. Compare the battle systems of Persona 4 and SMT4 for example.
These are Japanese LTD numbers.
Mess. I was thinking WW for some reason so was expecting numbers in the millions.

The fact tat Atlus got so many sales out of Persona 3 is amazing but I guess that just shows how popular that specific game was in Japan.
Persona will never sell that well.
They are diffrent now - I watched only story/intro trailer of SMT4? Nocturne was very similar to P3/P4 from what i remeber.
Omg YAS thanks!

These are Japanese only numbers as well :lol
The only thing I could find about WW sales were Persona 4 NA numbers (110k) from Siliconera but I'm not exactly sure what their source is.

Persona 4 broke 300k wow.
Is Persona now Atlus' biggest gaming franchise?
That's not unexpected.
3DS is more popular among kids and women (in the case of Devils and Realist).
What about worldwide? I am sure Persona is more popular.

Kind of amazing for a franchise that hasn't had a proper new entry in 5 years. I guess it goes to show how effective they've been at keeping that flame alive/milking it/blueballing us depending on the way you choose to see it. Hell, even these P4G numbers on a console that's not doing too hot indicate pent-up demand.Of course.
Of course.
Yessssss! Praise the lord! It deserves it. Persona's characters, art style, gameplay and music was such a breath of fresh air in the jrpg genre.
The music imo are simply some of the best in gaming and Soejima's art style is godlike.

Definitely. The fact Atlus is pretty much its own competition in different flavors of the dungeon crawler niche is interesting in the sense that they've managed to keep this niche alive so well.I'm not trying to discredit Persona or anything but the only real competition it has is EO and SMT.

To an extent, Chun does the same with the Mystery Dungeon series (although being attached to so many big franchises probably helped a lot).
P5 will sell 500k on PS3 alone.
The SMT series in general is a breath of fresh air in JRPGs. Also Meguro has done great work on other SMT game OSTs besides Persona, as well as other composers.
I wonder how many people didn't get P4 because it was released on PS2 in 2008. If it was a sizeable amount I could definitely see it happening but P4 is the best-selling entry...

It might even be in a worse position, considering PS3 offered BC while PS4 won't.I won't this be the same, unless the game comes out this year or early next year it will be in a similar position of releasing in last gen's hardware when next gen if in full swing (the ps2 also sold a heck of a lot more than the ps3).

Couldnt have been that many people.
Considering they apparently did a bit more than 500k in Japan, that's almost equivalent to saying they did as well abroad as in Japan. That seems bold.I wonder if it's safe to assume that Persona 4 (vanilla + P4G) has sold more-or-less a million worldwide?
Holy market contraction, Batman! The best selling game in the Megami Tensei series is Persona, followed by Devil Summoner.
[PSX] Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (Atlus Co.) {1996.09.20} - 201.147 / 391.556
[SAT] Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner (Atlus Co.) {1995.12.25} - ¿ / 355.656

I was under the impression their franchises had sustained the transition from last gen to this gen pretty well but it seems the previous transition hurt them pretty bad. Were all Sat/PS1 Megaten titles in that ballpark?
Bamco is the biggest 3rd party right now in Japan and the 3DS is the most popular Plattform, they also had strong DS support..... So it's no rocket science that they are pushing as much as possible on 3DS xD
