Octopath is sold out. Square Enix has apologized multiple times for lack of stock. Looks like they totally underestimated the sales potential of Octopath.

OT got a restock last week, I saw a bunch of copies in a Yodobashi near me but when I came back a few days later they were old out. Don't know if the supply got sorted out since then.

I think its a novel concept but I don't think it has much traction. Needs a killer piece of software to accompany it and that's unlikely to happen.

Well it'll be interesting to see how vehicle Labo does too in September. I think it rose b/c of a holiday though. I don't believe stock issues have been sorted out from what I've been hearing from others (sometimes those restocks are gone in a couple hours).

I definitely agree that a killer app is needed, but such things are always impossible to predict. You never know where the next big hit will arrive. With Labo, I have always assumed that it would be a slow build. It's a fascinating concept, but a bit complex. You put together machines with cardboard and use them to interact with the Switch system and controllers. There are many variables at play and any number of things could scare off potential consumers. Either the construction kit or the Switch software is too complex, or, conversely, too simple.

If you could create a construction kit that was inspiring and challenging, but not too difficult to understand, and if that was joined with software that was entertaining and compelling, then you'll have the formula for a hit. Remember that Wii Sports was a very simple videogame. It was dismissed as little more than a tech demo at the time, and yet it became an enormous hit with all ages of people, especially many who either quit playing videogames or never played at all.

Labo is tapping into this market of construction kit toys that are seen in children's toy stores. There are many variations and if you visit a children's toy store you'll understand where Nintendo is aiming. The potential is there. Will it happen? Hard to say. Perhaps the existing Labo kits will succeed, and perhaps a future kit will become the big hit. If the Big N is smart, they will continue to create kits and support the idea for a while.

I think the thing limiting Labo sales is that it requires a Switch. Wii Sports got a lot of adults to buy into a $250 machine. Trying to get parents to spend $300 + Labo for their kids unless they already have a Switch is way too steep atm imo.
