Only on GAF is 100k a bomb. It's not a fantastic result, but it's not tragically bad, especially in a country where 3D Mario isn't exactly loved.

I was honestly expecting half that.

Though I am somewhat dismayed that it didn't boost Wii U sales. I honestly don't get why people are so reluctant. It's a great console.

I vaguely recall it was the topic of discussion in the MC thread a few weeks back, but my recollection could be failing me.
Like a record, baby, right round. Round round.
I remember that discussion did occur, I just didn't think people actually tried to argue that it wouldn't be the worst selling 3D Mario game.
That's so sad for Mario and Wii U. Wow.If the worldwide numbers are not good, what does this mean for Wii U?
You don't need any numbers to realize the Wii U is dead worldwide.
What is that? I guess it has something to do with sellthrough? That if that cup/bucket is full, it means that there are a lot of stock left?
Sell-through of Taiko is that.

Happy to see my Japanese brothers starting to get bored of the Mario formula Nintendo wants to live off from.
If only our side of the world had more responsible consumers ...

WTF is wrong with you? It's now irresponsible to buy one of the finest games ever?

Are you trying to surpass the heatwave moment now?

You seriously expected 50k for a Mario game at this point in the season?

Just let it go, stop blaming "GAF" and stop twisting these numbers

Considering the state of the Wii U...yes, I seriously did.

Guess Nintendo will have to hope 3d world will have mario 64 ds style legs at this point.

Sweet jesus, SM3DW may actually be the bomba of the year in Japan. How could the Wii U ever recover from this ?!

The other new games out that week also really underperformed. Bad sales all around close to the holidays, what the heck...

So this is the excuse lightning fans are gonna stick to for these abysmal numbers

Don't get it twisted, for a technically mainline FF game, the number is horrible, but in the end, SE will report on their financials that, "hey, we ended things in the black, and will move on."

Then I can only assume Wii U owners are slinging their consoles into landfill sites.

I can't fathom what else they're doing with them if they aren't even buying a new 3D Mario.

I'm not planning to buy Mario, and I have around 10 games for my WiiU. I just think this one looks uninteresting. FYI I didn't buy Galaxy 2 too. I know it's a good game, like 3D World. I just prefer stuff completely new like Mario 64 -> Sunshine -> Galaxy.

Btw, Vita TV bombed, and I already said that 40k was a bad debut in the other thread but nobody seemed to care. Still the Vita should be a much healtier platform than WiiU in Japan, and not just because it's a portable console.

Not this time.

Pray tell me what big franchise not on a portable system is doing well?

There's almost none left, that's true but FF started well in this generation selling around 2 million than it just droped. The question is why? Was it the market? Maybe but that same market did bought XIII in big numbers. Why did they not come back for the other FF games on the console? The only answer I can think of is they didn't want sequels or the quality of the said games was not up to par.

Look at SM64DS, 120k, barely above, and ended up with 1.2 million.

SM3DW will easily clear 1 million.
Easily? Not even the Galaxys did this easily, Sunshine failed at it and all of them started better on better selling consoles. You're joking, right?

This is a historical bomba for Nintendo.
You can be sure that investors, gamers and the media alike will seriously question Nintendo's strategy from there on uninterruptedly. Especially if Mario bombs in the US.

I think it's more an indictment of console gaming in general in Japan. Wii U is definitely looking like a lost cause, but I think Sony sees the writing on the wall as well.

You're really Nintendo's SmokeyDave. Just without any reasons to celebrate :(.
I like hyperboles, they work great on conversations.
Hyperbole to the point of spouting bullshit doesn't help conversations though. It might work great of your goal is to derail it, though.

Oh lol.

Err... I'm pretty sure Road broke my sarcasm meter... not sure why people are taking that comment seriously.
NSMBU rose.
Isn't that due to bundling?

SmokyDave doesn't really spin the abysmal numbers Vita pulls as much, when it does terrible numbers, and is generally realistic about the fact that it's a dead system in Western markets.

It was hard to expect Mario to do much more than that with the current install base, and, as we know, it's going to keep on selling forever. The game itself isn't really "bomba", but I'd say it's slightly off putting that despite the release, the Wii U only really managed to keep the 20k momentum going, instead of getting a big spike in sales.

End of the year is coming, though, and surely Mario will end up being relatively popular and sell a bunch more Wii U hardware. But honestly, 3D Mario or not, the HW numbers seem very, very poor.

Also, Taiko is just... wow. That sell-through is atrocious. What were they expecting?

Are people in here celebrating the low numbers?
Either way... considering the installed base the numbers a fairly similar to the other entries in the series. What´s dissapointing are the Wii U numbers. I was expecting 3D World to finally boost them.

Wow at the console market in Japan. And for comparison purposes 3D Land sold just well. Its not Mario, there's just no console market there anymore. Starting to wonder how PS4 is going to end up....

Of course there are. Plenty peopel had to wait years for this, after years of Wii dominating, they're finally happy Ninendo's next console is bombing hard. It's pathetic really.
