Is it really that hard to just say "I was wrong".

Thats an estimate.
And I dont think all retailers are counted for those numbers.
Those numbers are also reflecting a significant increase in sales.
So what happens if WiiU has the same type of percentage increase that it did from
October to November?
Why are we talking about NPD sales in the media create thread? The NPD thread is still active after all.
Any news on Puzzles & Dragons, etc.? Also does anyone have numbers for typical Nintendo non-Wii Decembers (GC & N64)? Thanks.
Yeah if we forget about DK and Mario Kart in the process.....The Wii U is still fucked? The Wii U needed to sell about 5 million (as in 5 million in the hands of consumers) in order to help some hope of viability in the console race.
They'll be lucky to sell 2 million by end of the fiscal year.
Do we know for sure that Kart is out before April? You'd think we'd have a concrete release date on their biggest game of 2014 by now...
On a far lower install base and included digital I'd say t's done all right certainly not underperformed.
no news about PDZ?
Install base has nothing to do with it.MH4 did not launch at the day as the 3DS. That´s not an excuse. The people who wanted to buy the game bought the game. And it sure sounds well when a sequel underperform its predecessor to company leaders, investors of the company.
That's what I came here for. Should be interesting.
I've seen people comparing it to AC and looking for 1 million LTD sales...to me sounds crazy, lets' see...
I could see a million happening, although I'm only going on the strength of the brand and how good the original game is. I don't really know much about the 3DS game itself.I've seen people comparing it to AC and looking for 1 million LTD sales...to me sounds crazy, lets' see...

You know there isn't anything worthwhile to talk about when Monster Hunter sales performance comes up for discussion.
What business decision do you think the best they can make with that MH4 money?Capcom is using Monster Hunter 4's gains to fund a new mobile studio. That's the worst business decision they could've made.
So, he was right. He is very good in predictions.

I guess my only concern is that it might not be worth buying if you're already heavily invested in the phone version. Gotta get those daily login bonuses!

I was thinking "who in their right mind would poo-poo the sales of a game that sold 4 million before Christmas and lead to record earnings for Capcom" but then I saw the name.
I'm not entirely sure what Chris's post is getting at. Perhaps the language is harsh but the facts are this: Up until now each iteration has shown growth from the previous one. Yes there's a point where growth would have to stop but for the decline to be as steep as it's been isn't a good thing. Has it sold better than I expected? Definitely, but also at the same time nowhere near as much as some here predicted. I said it wasn't going to sell numbers similar to 3rd and it won't.
4 million is a huge number, 3 million is a huge number, 2 million is a huge number. It's all relative. It's annoying how we have this same argument every couple of weeks though.
I am pretty sure they are thrilled about the game selling less copies than its predecessor.I'm sure they can't sleep at night.
Yeah, companies sure love it when the sequel does not expand the fanbase of the prior game and sell less.I was thinking "who in their right mind would poo-poo the sales of a game that sold 4 million before Christmas and lead to record earnings for Capcom" but then I saw the name.
Funny how the people who accuse such companies as Nintendo being stuck in the past are stuck in the past themselves :lol

They are -- you can read about it here: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e131204.htmlI am pretty sure they are thrilled about the game selling less copies than its predecessor.
Yeah, I mean, I know that the brand is so strong, but it would be mind blowing to see such a succesfull transition from mobile to console, wouldn't be?

Look who´s talking. You clearly have zero understanding about the purpose of sequels and just spout drivel to defend Nintendo as always.

It wouldn't be a transition as much as a brand extension, I think. The mobile game is so ridiculously huge there that even a 1m+ 3DS entry is small fry in comparison.
It will be interesting to look at western sales of MonHun 4 in addition to Japanese sales- I imagine that Nintendo's support in promoting it overseas will end up with it wildly outselling overseas sales of Portable 3, and the combined total pointing to the increased sales of the series. This is getting off-topic though.

I am aware of both of those things yes, but even if it sold 500k digitally (A pretty generous estimate) that leaves around 500k copies out in the wild. It's selling 20k a week during the holidays, it's going to drop pretty significantly afterward so maybe 4 more weeks at this level? Even with a boost that woud get it to a bit north of 100k before the post-holiday drop and 400k left in stock, and even if it maintained something like 10-15k (Also again, unlikely to actually maintain these levels) a week the whole way through it would take more than 6 months to sell through that stock. So yes, individual stores probably will order more units both now and in the future but probably not by a significant amount. Stores don't wait to sell out before ordering more but if the stock is as plentiful as they're saying then they aren't going to reach that wall soon. With digital sales their annual report in March will probably have it between 4.1-4.2 million? The game's done better than I expected so far but that's my expectation. You realize that 3 million doesn't include download numbers and by the time this game stops selling it will be very close to the original's LTD right? At worst it's going to sell 4 million copies before any kind of best release and the original certainly didn't sell near 5 million on the very first go

Are you expecting not a single copy to ever be shipped again?
I'm sorry but you trying to downplay the sales of this game is beyond foolish.
I don't know why you can't ever just admit you were just plain wrong, and that's part of the reason why people hold such statements against you.
Oops, sorry, that's embarrassing: I didn't know it didn't have any Western release at all! I spent ages with MH Freedom Unite though, was that portable 2? I swear the names, letters and numbers confuse me sometimes...Yup, I can see it outselling Portable 3rd in the West by several magnitudes
*snicker*

Are you aware that in terms of money made, each copy sold digitally it's at least TWICE as profitable than a copy sold at retail?I am aware of both of those things yes, but even if it sold 500k digitally (A pretty generous estimate) that leaves around 500k copies out in the wild. Yeah, or at least until we get some P&DZ numbers to scrap over instead. Is this how every Media Create sales thread ends once talk of the week's actual sales runs its course.
I hope the game is good and does well, localization please.Yeah, or at least until we get some P&DZ numbers to scrap over instead.
