I say this every Automata sales thread, but it's one of the great turnaround stories. The original NieR when it launched was review bombed, mocked and absolutely flopped.

I remember that time well as I initially also passed on the game at launch.

But the soundtrack. story, characters, overall wierdness of the gameplay and other ideas saved it from becoming a dead IP.

I am happy the game sold as many copies as it did.

I know most of these 9 milion never achieved all the endings and a lot of the buyers just wanted to look at the (then) best animated ass and sexy main character (me included), but those that were persistent, tough and ready for sacrifices got the best and most profound gaming/philosophical moment in history.

Take that you pretentious, trashy [Current Year] gaming AAA slop

Well deserved, to this day people still remember and talk about this game.

Also this game came out in 2017 which fucking busy year which both Nintendo and Sony were releasing heavy hitters and Automata still managed sale well.

Very well deserved! It sold 1M copies since the last sales milestone they've announced back in February when it was sitting at 8 million.

Oh and I guess I've contributed in a very small part as I purchased another copy this past year. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I don't believe anything Taro says now. His game output used to be very consistent back before his games sold millions of copies. And what Taro says is a sequel is not necessarily meaning a AA-AAA calibre home platform video game. Might as well be another phone shit deal. The man simply got filthy rich off Automata and never has to work again. I don't blame him for it but it also makes me extremely sceptical whenever he hints at a new entry coming. The incentive for him putting in the work for a home platform video game is minimal compared to a decade ago.

Part of the hype for this game was expecting it to tank super hard.

We never going to get direct follow up to Automata and it doesn't need one because its story wrap up pretty nicely.

When we do get new Nier I'm pretty sure it takes place decades after Automata with entirely new casts and story.

I personally hoping we see Drakengard 4.

Samus is one of the top female leads for sure. 2B and Samus both suffer in their own way. I do have to wonder where Samus will go after Dread. I suspect we will be waiting for a few years to ever continue the Metroid story. MP4 Beyond will take precedence.

I bought it couse it got hyped a ton here. But ahm i don't see the appeal, like i really don't. I played until i got into a large desert ish Zone with destroyed buildings. It was just not good and i dropped it.
I have the strong feeling I'm missing something here.

Let's be honest, the whole first run explains jack shit and if he got only to the desert he knows less than jack shit.

Exede Exede look up some yt lore, explanation vids. I can point you to any good if you'd like it.
There is a LOT hidden in the game and if the gameplay was not your type then maybe at least check what it's all about. Cause the game IS special.

Sure, i mean i platinumed Stellar Blade. l normally like these kind of games. It just hasn't clicked. Maybe i should give it another try.

Give it another try. If you were spending time doing sidequests, don’t, just go for the main story. When you get to a part that makes you think “I ain’t doing more of this shit”, push through and you will arrive at the best content. Ending E is the culmination of the game and the reason it’s so beloved and it’s something to be experienced while playing. You don’t get the same experience watching it on YouTube.
