I want the the #1 and #2 exciting games for this platform to come form new franchises and new IP.

The franchise stuff is great and there's a huge rabid fanbase for them, but Nintendo has an opportunity with Wii to show some new stuff. They've already gone down several unconventional routes, so I wouldn't be surprised if their focus isn't exclusively on their old franchise characters.
