[Rolling Stone] Xbox CEO Says There Will ‘Definitely’ Be Future Consoles

People on here been goofy for a while...

"Playstation is beating Xbox 2/3:1 so surely they are getting out of the hardware business! This will be the last generation they ever participate in, guarantee it!"

Xbox has been losing to Sony nearly the entire time they have been in the console business... didnt stop them previous generations won't stop them this generation or the next.

Just because they are trying to expand their presence to more players off of their traditional console doesn't mean they are throwing in the towel.

If anything they are doubling down and making a greater investment in getting their games everywhere they can, including their own consoles.

Keep buying Xbox's games on your Playstation and Switch peeps, it's only helping to fund Microsoft's fight in the "console wars"
I mean I keep buying MS games to fund their other games on my PS. This is MS's best gen IMO the multiplat move is great and I hope they continue to expand. Could care less if they continue making consoles or not.

That's strange.

I swear people were saying not too long ago that Game Pass was funding the future of Xbox.....

Yup, of course there will. No surprise. I'm surprised at anyone who thought otherwise. They aren't just going to throw away their 30 million (or whatever) console base. It's the largest source of GP subs, among other things.
Xbox leadership doesn’t have a stellar track record when it comes to strategic thinking.

Good. Sony needs the competition.

Y'all celebrating and supporting the downfall of Xbox is some petty shit. You are ignorant if you think it won't effect the gaming industry in a negative way.

Or maybe, people just want MS Xbox to be better.

From the recent rumors and Phil talks 2025 seem ambitious. Do you think 2026 is more reliable. Not sure what tech will be available for 2025 that would move the needle big enough. Maybe a pro Xbox series x a year later than Sony?

No way this 2025 new console can be true. That would mean the hardware would be hardware from this year and dev boxes would already be in Xbox 1st party hands. No way MS could make a 4nm, Zen5 CPU, 24 GBs of RAM, and RDNA 4 GPU console for less than $800.

Do yall think Xbox execs are dumb or something?

lol some people still believe in Phil...This has to be one of the most toxic relationships between a company and its fanbase. truly pathetic.

Phil always lies.
Why would he lie about this, you might ask?
Because they aren’t ready to announce any big changes yet, and certainly wouldn’t announce it on Rolling Stone.

I suppose you could say it helped realign the optics on their eventual pivot to be more of a third party publisher, sure.

I never personally said GP was funding their future btw. I've always been neutral on the subject. I subscribe to it but rarely use it myself.

Will it play Steam?

Honestly, that is the only oddball shit and the cause of all my fucking quandary.

Will it or won't it?

If it does play Steam without limitation, the console will not sell nearly as many copies because MS will want to de-emphasize it.

Seemed like it was the case according to those on here in the know but good to hear it confirmed regardless.

I’m keen to see where they go with their next console. Be good to see something a bit different as has been hinted

Literally the entire world knew this, only people here expected different

Really? I thought it was still up in there due to the mixed messages they've been delivering recently. Honestly, I'm getting dizzy from all the 180s Microsoft is pulling out their ass.

Shame really because I like the Xbox brand, but Microsoft doesn't currently seem to know what direction they want to take.

"Definitely" is sometimes a vague word. But for me , I think it is a handheld type just like Switch or Steam deck.

Isn't this a usual corporate response when your key competitor releases something? I mean, isn't it obvious they are still in the hardware game (for now at least)

There was never a question there would be more. People are so ridiculous to ever have thought they’d stop. Regardless of anything it’s the bread and butter of their whole gaming presence. Will be a long time before it’s no longer the centerpiece of their gaming business. And when that changes it will change for the others, too. Consoles will not be around forever. Another 10 years? Sure.

what competition? they havent been competition since 360. even MS doesn't care since they are focusing on every device.

I have said all along they need at least one more generation with a console. I am excited to see what form it (they?) take.

Reading all the quotes in OP, I actually get the opposite feeling... They are going to phase them out in the next 10/20 years.
... twenty years isn't a phase out for a consumer electronics device. What will computers even look like in two decades? I suspect Xbox will move to a non-subsidised model and start looking to profit on their hardware. It's the only way to stay in the race when they're this far behind.

Was asking HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 he said 2025, but I don't think it's possible.

Bro still thinks there is a war 😆

It's over man, xbox capitulated and signed the treaty of versaille.
At the same time they seems to be slowly becoming software powerhouse and soon will have huge profit from software sales that it is playable on every device. Real capitulation /s

It will be mostly gamepass box, you know, their subscription service. And if they will include steam they will probably charge ££ valve on steam sales.

Yeah, we have got multiple ms execs + Heisenberg on this forum confirming that.
Oh yes, Sara Bond. The same person that wished Hi Fi Rush developers happy birthday and many more years of success before closing them down a week later.
What one has to do with another? Sony bought firewall with big promises and year later they dissolved them. They slowly doing same with Bungie. Does it mean that we don’t trust a word they say?

Reading all the quotes in OP, I actually get the opposite feeling. Read between the lines.

Especially this :

and this :

and this :

This reads like the days of Xbox consoles are definitely counted, and when Cloud/PC/Mobile and whatever other device will represent a much larger player base than the traditional consoles, they will simply stop making consoles because it will not be worth the hassle anymore. They are going to phase them out in the next 10/20 years.
As I've been predicting, it seems like this will just be an Xbox-branded PC, manufactured by OEMs. All Xbox-exclusive games will be made forward-compatible and ported to PCs - which will then be playable on this new device.
