You clearly haven't played it. It's a retelling of journey to the west, nothing more, nothing less. They explicitly told western reviewers/journalists to simply review the game and not bring up any irrelevant political commentary. The focus of the reviews should be the game, not the political landscape of the country it was made in.

Why is that too much to ask? Is that not the very same thing that we ask of journalists when reviewing games?
Indeed I haven't played it and never claimed I did.

I agree, it should have no bearing on the rating of the game.
What? The thumbnail brings in to focus the Chinese credit score system which has nothing to do with the game.
The devs themselves could never criticize their government without their offices getting raided or shut down. China is doing some very questionable things in the world and since the Chinese people can't openly complain about it some people feel the need to use popular things coming from China to highlight certain issues.
Where the game is from shouldn't matter and shouldn't be the focus of any discussion surrounding the game (yet here, it's made to be the focus, right from the title and the thumbnail). The only thing that matters is it's quality.
It shouldn't but I think BMW is the first AAA(IIRC) to come out of China so it's worthy of note.

Don't make me laugh. You're trying to tell me that he's framing the review the way he has for the good of the Chinese people?

Don't throw stones from glass houses also springs to mind. There's unlikely to be a single nation/bloc on this planet that hasn't and isn't doing "questionable" things. Some are just better at hiding it, while others have made reframing their malpractice in to something positive a fine art.

Unfortunately, that's not what he's saying though:

the hype around this game has been clearly astroturfed by China despite selling over 10 million copies which is definitely a success I'm not going to deny that for a second approximately only a million of that was outside of China the vast majority of the Steam Reviews for this game are in Chinese barely any are in English and when I live streamed this game for the first time to over 1,500 people there were a hell of a lot of Chinese people who just kind of stumbled in and were complaining about every minor criticism I had of the game while playing so I'm not telling you this to say you shouldn't support it just because chines people like it and are trying to make it as much of a success as possible but the hype around this game is clearly not organic

Nothing that deep, he took a shot at the Chinese gov because the devs are Chinese. He dislikes authoritarian govs/ideologies.

Well, if he thinks the game's success is inorganic because of China, and he thinks he has some evidence of this, why should he keep it to himself?

SH2R isn't a bad game but it pales in comparison to the original.

This dude said it best. "The original Silent Hill 2 feels like a post-millennium grain-soaked psychological horror film that's looping on a CRTV. The remake is like a sleek, digitally shot Netflix miniseries for wine moms."

That's a bit harsh IMO and the video needed some more side by side comparisons to drive home that point about the Netflix wine moms which it failed to do. Though I agree most of the cut scenes aren't as good as the OGs.

I think so. I think the Remake is fine but it doesn't have the same atmosphere and feeling of being lost as the original. I think in some cases the limited technology at the time and how you had fixed camera angles in tight spaces, and the game was much darker(lighting) amplified the fear of what lies around the corner.

With the 3rd person Shooter style(Modern RE and Last of Us gameplay) things aren't as scary because you are prepared to deal with anything that comes your way.

I think art direction is very important when it comes to these kinds of games as opposed to better graphics. And the jank gameplay of the original served to illustrate that James was not a trained fighter.

When it comes to improvements I think the Remake does have better gameplay and combat.

I think the fandom will be divided between the Original and the Remake. But I also think Silent Hill fans might need to bite the bullet and take what they can get because Silent Hill isn't going to get very many opportunities to make a comeback.

Oh I agree with all those things and that the game's too long for the kind of combat it has, but I'm not sure what he means with the Netflix wine mom acting in the Remake. :messenger_winking_tongue:

Probably presentation in the Original vs. Remake.

You'll have a lot of people that cherish the original and judge anything replicating it harshly. Or with rose tinted glasses.

As someone that adored the original and adored the remake, I personally can't help but think that the folks being overly harsh are wearing rose tinted glasses with thick lenses. But it's also subjective.

But it is pretty funny seeing some opinions making the OG sound like it was flawless. It's one of my favorite games of all time, but even when it was new it had plenty of flaws.

Ok, so when it comes to western games I'm sure you'll be fine with everyone taking a swipe at western politics/ideologies instead of just focusing on critiquing the games?

Is that what you really want? Because from where I'm sitting I thought that's what we were increasingly trying to get away from and avoid.

Well, if he thinks the game's success is inorganic because of China, and he thinks he has some evidence of this, why should he keep it to himself?

He doesn't have any evidence, it's all anecdotal. The game has had universal critical acclaim (even in the west), so please forgive Chinese people being excited about a game that is based on the most popular piece of fictional literature in the history of their land.

Where was this degree of suspicion when Hogwarts legacy (based on arguably the most popular piece of contemporary fictional literature to come out of the West in our lifetimes) had people raving about it online? Was that inorganic and the work of western governments? Or was it just that people were genuinely excited to have a great game based on popular source material?

Honestly, all of this is ridiculous. I'm as against "woke" ideology as the next guy, but it doesn't mean we need to swing so far in the other direction that we become what that youtube channel represents (which as somebody else in this thread aptly described, is nothing more than brainrot).

It's not relevant to the game's narrative and ideally shouldn't be brought up in the game review, but I'm not gonna cry foul if he takes a swipe at the CCP in a thumbnail. The video itself it pretty politics free.

If those western games (prominently) display left/right wing ideologies/propaganda then yes it's fair game to bring it up when critiquing.

I didn't get the impression it affected his game's enjoyment/rating so it's kinda a whatever point to me to bring up in a review. If it did then I'd take his review way less seriously.

He has some signs of brainrot but IMO he's not gone off the deep end yet. I find his (over)reactions entertaining enough to watch his reviews.

This isn't about some random YouTuber. Human biology has been studied for hundreds of years and like it or not, but there are obvious differences between male and female skulls.

NDuJmbA.png

The SH2 remake is an absolutely amazing game overall, but what bloober did with Angela model was disgusting. They deliberately made a male skull for a female character in the game and thought people would not notice. People programmed/demoralized by WOKE culture did not notice it because they cannot see any difference between the sexes anyway, but people educated in the biology of the human skull can see what they were trying to do.
Have you ever seen Angelina Jolie???

Or majority of Top Models? You'll hardly see "oval" faced Women in the Branch, they seem to prefer the Women with sharper jawlines. Exact same for the Male counterpart btw.

angelina jolie thank you GIF by The Academy Awards

I thought you people would stop spamming by now but it seems you really cannot accept that there are differences between men and women skulls.
Angelina Jolie has a feminine (v shaped) jawline and face, there's nothinig wrong with her looks.

The Angela character model from the SH2 remake trailer has a wide, masculine-looking face with a broad chin and that's why so many people thought she looked like a male character.
The developers tweaked the Angela model in the final game, so now she look more feminine, but people will always remember that male looking Angela from the trailer.

Both of these examples have square jaws, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at. Difference however is that Angela is chubby or bloated in the face, and Angelina basically skinny showing her visible cheekbones.

SlimySnake

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Patched fixed the constant stuttering for me. there is a new setting called occlusion culling, disabling it or settting it to HZD completely removed the stutters.

the few traversal stutters are there. but the game does not hitch every few seconds. sucks, because i wouldve loved to have this at launch.

I would have to be blind to say that Angelina Jolie has a square jaw, and you also compare her to that ugly looking Angela model from the SH2 remake trailer. Maybe your brain is square, dude, but Anglela Jole does not have a square jawline.

Yes, they have improved the stuttering, but when I use the in-game fps cap, I can still see that the motion is not smooth.

Uncapping the framerate fixed the camera stutter on my PC, but I have noticed that the game has become more demanding after the patch. Even at 1440p native and without RT, I am now frequently seeing 60fps, and I have never seen such low fps at that resolution before.

She literally has a square jaw

You know that Female and Male skulls have square jaws right? Hell there's men with oval faces too, or men/women with literally almost no lower chin/weak chin(retrognathia). In both men and women squarish jaw or a sharp jawline is seen as a beauty traits. That's how most models look with the sunken cheek jaw

Angelina is looking up in this photo, probably because her photographer was much taller. Have a look in the mirror and see what happens to your jawline when you tilt your head up.

My photos in the previous post show Angelina Jolie with her head tilted into it's natural resting position. This allows her neck to extend and mandible (lower jaw) to relax revealing her true jawline. Angelina Jolie has a feminine (V-shaped) jawline when viewed from such angle. Her jawline is definitely not square like you think.

For every 10 positive reviews, there will be always one negative. It seems that some people have different expectations, or perhaps cannot look at the original game objectively (without nostalgia).

The more i go forward with the game the more cutscenes of the old game i can watch for comparison and 19 times out of 20, the remake feel better.

I can't stress how much james sounding like a tired, gruff man make a difference compared to young wimp james from the original, it's hard to think that it was on purpose and not just amateur voice work.

Maria\angela scene are usually where maybe the og has a chance but more often than not, the new cutscene are just better, better direction, better voice acting, much more subtle facial expressions etc, maria was creepier in the og tho.

Laura is very similar, her face was a bit creepier in the og but i guess her role is not to be creepy so it was just a cg tech limit, and eddie is much better in the remake, both voice and look are creepy perfection, the only people i can see being bothered by the remake are people who didn't wanted any change whatsoever from the original.

I'm one of the few who vastly prefer og re2 compared to the remake so i can partially understand.
(But sh2 looks like a much more faithful remake than re2r tbh)

Tbf i didn't played much of the og sh2 so i don't have that nostalgia effect like i do with re2.

On purpose or not, james role is much better with this type of voice\voice direction.

I saw why people don't like new eddie, he is supposed to be a young dude but in the remake he looks 40 and the voice is very different, but if you ask me, the creepy factor is upped to 11 in the remake, he is by far the creepiest character in the game, they really nailed the fat, greasy, abstractly disturbing type of character you have in some horror movies.

I much prefer James' benzodiazepine-like delivery in the remake to line reads like this:

Yeah, this one was BAD, like og re1 bad.

James sounding younger does absolutely nothing for the plot, age is irrelevant for the whole wife\husband angle and him sounding more soy is straight up worse for how his character is build, i can't imagine wimp james having the balls to do what he does.

Maybe they wanted to play around this constrast (and surprise the player) but i think new james straight up work much better even if it is much easier to imagine this version of james doing regrettable stuff over wimp james.

My favorite moment from the original is when James says to the clearly unhinged and psychotic man who just got down shooting a bunch of people "Eddie, have you gone nuts?"

A week ago I asked people here to stay on topic, but you had to bump my post and start spamming me with nonsense about Angelina Jolie's looks. Now I'm forced to continue this absurd discussion.

There is a huge difference on your photos and my photos of Angelina Jolie and it is still the same person. The reason is exactly what I told you. When people tilt their head up their true jawline can no longer be seen. It's not even about camera angle, it's about posture.

Men and women have different skulls. Painters and artists always know that, so they painted people differently according to gender. Studies have proven this long ago as well (e.g. J. Keen's 1950 study "A study of the differences between male and female skulls"), so it is now taught in schools as a biological fact. It's not a matter of opinion, dude. You're trying to argue with the facts of human biology, and for that I call you an uneducated moron.

As for the photo you posted, experts call it a "melted face". Google Dr. Mike Mew's articles about melted faces and you will learn everything about it. Melted face is a result of mouth breathing and incorrect tongue posture. When the tongue no longer supports the upper palate, people start to walk with their mouth open and it has an immense effect on their appearance (and health in general).

People who use Mike Mew tongue posture advice can however reverse this process.

So I finished this a couple of days ago. Overall brilliant game tarnished a little by a couple of terrible Boss fights and being a bit overly long for simplistic gameplay.

I decided to watch a replay of OG for curiosity. My first thought.

I see why this franchise struggled and RE thrived

Second thought

There's no way I'm ever playing this.

I'am sorry the gameplay looked so bad. I watched a couple of nostalgia reviews try a brush this off as "Oh it's about the atmosphere" the gameplay is secondary but Fuck that.

It's 2024 now what may have seemed scary and hauting in 2001 doesn't today. The monsters now look goofy and comical as hell I was laughing more than being anxious not to mention James's janky combat. I will say the music was excellent though.

Resident Evil Remake released 4 months later. The game design for that holds up brilliantly it's day and night compared to this.

I feel like I got 90% of the experience watching the OG. I was watching a player who clearly new where he was going. I imagine if I was playing I would be exploring more checking the map and solving puzzles. Other than that I feel the experience would not be very different, watching maybe even being superior as I wouldn't have to do the awful combat. They should have burrowed more gameplay from Resident evil then they would have had an actual all time classic!

So yeah I feel Silent Hill 2 Remake Updates the game to the modern age and hopefully the Franchise can now flourish!

*sigh*, this fucking screen will never die ...

"The SH2 remake is an absolutely amazing game overall, but what bloober did with Angela model was disgusting", I wonder if you've actually played it? 'Cause this shot is not even in the final game, ffs. It was only present in the initial trailer.

Bloober changed her model slightly (how the hair is rendered, mostly) and she looks fine during the whole game

Seriously, Bloober aint woke and trying to make women look like men. Let's move on from this discourse.

Maybe choose a scene from the final game like you did in your previous post, then.

People have been using this trailer shot over and over again to say how bad she looks in the game, and its just fake news. Not cool.

I think she looks a lot like her actress. Its just that the hair isnt great for her face structure (hence why the actress doesnt use this horrible hairstyle)

But she is a sex abuse victim, so I doubt that Angela cares if she looks good with that hairstyle or not. Works for me.

EDIT: There's an Onlyfan model here in Brazil that looks a lot like the character model. She even tweeted about it, joking how they used her looks in the game.

A sex worker saying that Angela look was based on her is certainly ironic

That pic looks fake as hell and, even though what you say is true, you can in no way reverse it that much without surgery.

Mouth breathing is a real problem, detailed very interestingly in the book Breath by James Nestor. Ever since I read the book I‘ve been trying to keep my mouth shut and chew on 5 Falim gums every evening. But I in now way expect my chin to pop like that.

Btt: I‘m about to wrap those game up tonight. I remain with my imression from the main thread that the game is „only“ solid and can’t share the huge praise. They bloated the game way too much. The main game lived from the fact that you complete it within 8 hours or so. Keeping the Story identical but stretching it to 16 hours was no the best idea imo. Don’t see myself replaying this ever again. Solid 7/10 game.

Hey guys, quick question for you fans of this franchise.

I played and own SH2 on Ps2 years ago, but never really could get into it. I was thinking in the last year or so when I was replaying the old Resident Evil games to try Silent Hill again. First question - Should I play the first game on PSX before SH2 or are they disconnected enough that I can enjoy 2 in a vacuum? Second question - is SH2 Remake good enough/true enough to play as opposed to the original, or should I play the original instead (I have it)? No spoilers please, thanks guys!

You can 100% enjoy SH 2 without having played the first one. Only the 3rd one is connected to the first game.

As someone who has tried SH 2 in the past but didnt get far: I recommend the remake very much. It's probably my GOTY and one of my favorite survivor horror games of all time.

The original is a masterpiece, the remake is a masterpiece as well (although in a slightly different way). You can’t go wrong here
