I don't like Microsoft's tablet or PC Windows 11 operating systems but Xbox Series OS is very snappy and versatile. Steam OS is cumbersome. Maybe it can be customized to make full library of games easily bootable but I use a folder with icon shortcuts to cut out the middle man.

If Xbox OS is as user-friendly as SteamOS but allows me to play ALL games (Steam, GOG, Game Pass, Epic, etc..), I'd definitely go that route.

SteamOS is amazing but it's big Achilles heal right now is you can't pay a subset of games (anti-cheat games (so many online games), game pass games, etc.. etc..)

Yeah, like what the hell do they know about making An OS.
You don't need to be involved in OS development to smell a steaming pile of shit when you come across one. I'm perfectly fine on Linux. Were you born in the 2010s or why is it so hard to comprehend that lots of people hate Microsoft made operating systems? If I had to guess, you couldn't even operate a terminal if your life depended on it.

You'd have to be borderline mentally retarded to put your trust in an OS made by Microsoft.

Without even doing a poll though someone probably should, I would bet some 90% of PC-GAF is using Windows OS as their main gaming OS.
You think we are all borderline retarded........or did you not think this through?

On Topic
Ive tried gaming on Linux and it hasnt been smooth sailing.
Ive tried gaming on Mac OS and just not for me.
Ive tried gaming on Windows and well its not without its niggles, but generally and maybe its just due to having used it so long, i rarely have issue, most issues actually come from hardware or bad software not the OS itself.

SteamOS on SteamDeck has been fine for the most part, im just not that much of a handheld gamer.
If SteamBoxes make a comeback Id be willing to try SteamOS for a main gaming OS if it comes with advantages over Windows.
But as a daily driver OS, i dont think ill be leaving Windows anytime soon.

P.S Arent you a PC gamer using Windows.......was this a joke post that went over my head?

So every corporation on the planet then?
I have worked in large Corpos in IT for last 25 years. And I have supported MS shit during this time from a technician to managerial positions.

So yeah, most corpos are dumb for going full bore on MS, but it’s an easy route to take. Note that most now run Linux server side. And Mac presence is increasing on the client (not that supporting Macs in the Enterprise is great) as well as Linux workstations for engineers.

Xbox OS without a doubt.

Steam OS is fine for a handheld that is mostly used for playing single player and older games.
but the compatibility issues you run into would be a nightmare if you actually tried to use a proper PC for modern games and for multiplayer/esports games.

Linux is far more popular in the enterprise world than you realise.

Most critical systems that require reliability tend to use Linux.

Alot of backend stuff is Linux based obviously.....thats why your graph specifically saying Server Operating System.
But realistically Windows is what most people in the company are actually using.
My first admin job our whole basement floor were using Enterprise versions of Linux but go upstairs and see every computer......it was Windows.

with steam you are locked to that store too....

both steam and xbox games you can buy keys from anywhere rather than buying direct so they are just launchers.
No, on steam OS I can use whatever I want. Go into desktop mode and grab whatever client and run it through a wrapper. It’s just Linux really.

Can’t do that on Xbox. At least not yet.

Yep, but the way people dismiss it here is highly ignorant.

From a backend point of view it's the operating system that most companies will opt for due to reliability and efficiency.

If MS was able to make a similar thing to SteamOS that let's me install ALL THE STORES and any Windows App I want easily, then I'll happily go for it.

I have a Steam Deck but spend most of my time using my ROG Ally because of how much easier it is to install non-steam games and compatibility overall.

We just need a debloated version of windows just for gaming. I'm fine if it lacks other kind of functionality, I'd install it everywhere except my desktop.

osx is the much more logical windows alternative for corporate workstations than any flavor of linux. there isn't even a strong fleet management solution for linux workstations.

i love linux and use it daily, but there's still too many variables for it to be a workstation contender for professionals. i recently went back to windows on my (nvidia) gaming laptop, as much i hate to admit it.

Millions of people fly Boeing every day, doesn't mean people trust them.

Pretty much why I would vote for XboxOS.
IF it was just a trimmed down fatfree version of Windows thats gaming focused it doesnt sound like a bad idea.

But it's soooo easy lol. Which is partly why it's increasing so fast.

everything MS might do is anybody's guess right now. no reason to assume they're going to integrate 3rd party stores into their xbox/console UI when they don't even have a console UI yet. the only public-facing effort MS has released to improve windows for gamepad users is in the on-screen keyboard:

Microsoft's Copilot really pissed me off. I've been waiting for Valve to get Steam OS finished for desktops for ages now.
I know it's coming. Probably this year. I think the biggest problem is nVidia's driver support. I know they support Linux but apparently there's something wrong with something like Proton in SteamOS that's causing issues.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I don't know what "pick out" means here.

Whichever has the games I want to play, I guess ?
