Wow, I'm Actually Hallucinating....

So to try to make this as short as possible, I've been under a lot of stress and I haven't been sleeping well.

My Ambien prescription is finally due and I picked it up last night. Now before I even get home to take my medications, I'm experimenting all sorts of crazy stuff. Most of it is normal though but just people acting what's differently or out of character.

When I got back home, I just did the usual of putting everything down then showering and laying in bed and the hallucinations and the weird visions haven't stopped.

Now disclaimer is that I've never done hallucinogenic drugs before. So I have no reference to go by as far as that is but I am experiencing some wild hallucinations that do include audio hallucinations. So yes I can hear things that may or may not be true within the reality around me.

I think this is a combination of lack of sleep for the last 3 days or 4 days as well as trying to take some Ambien this morning to help me sleep, which it did it and normally it works.

I hope you feel better

I don’t use any medications so I’d just say ring a nurse or doctor phone number for advice.

Welcome to the other side of life brother. The next stage of your journey can include precognition, synchronicity and even contact with the dead! I highly suggest reading all of the Gospels, the Neg Hammadi library, some Rudolf Steiner texts and Carl Jungs 'The Red Book' as required reading. Don't give up!

I know that is a joke, but let me tell you when you genuinely in that situation, it's fucking terrifying. Once you can no longer trust your own perception, it's fucking ominous bro.

Very true. There is very good reason anyone on a shamanic journey in ancient times required an elder guide. It can completely isolate and destroy you.

Lack of sleep can definitely lead to hallucinations. I've had it happen to me. Ambien just turned my hallucinations into night terrors I was unable to wake up from. My doctor switched me to doxepin because it slows down brain activity allowing me to sleep more normally. It's also a type of antidepressant but my doctor said it doesn't really work for that.

I'm not a doctor, so take this with a grain of salt, but I've heard neuroscientists say that Ambien doesn't actually give you "real sleep" as in normal REM sleep. It's a weird kind of sleep that doesn't refresh your body the way normal sleep does. I'm not saying don't take it, you and your doctor need to be the ones to decide what is best for you, but I'm curious if you've tried other methods or things to fall asleep first? Or was it right to Ambien? Ambien is strong stuff, I've heard stories of people doing crazy shit on Ambien. Sleepwalking and cooking meals or getting into their cars on it.

Very likely, the mind goes bananas without sleep. I hope the ambien helps, but I think you also need to make changes in your life as that level of stress isn't healthy in the long run.

If the weirdness continues despite sleeping or ambien doesn't help it might be a good idea to talk with your doctor so that there isn't any underlying illness causing it.

You may be able to go to a psych ward and get them to set you up on an outpaitent service.

That way, you don't have to stay there for Christmas.

Not bad advise, actually. Being at a psyche ward during a nervous breakdown was an extremely positive event for me. I've met some really kind people in my time there, and it really come out in a much healthier place.

I'm okay now. It was a combination of the Ambien plus not sleeping I think, plus stress.

Pretty wild I was having brief conversations with people who weren't there. Heh.

Lack of sleeping can be fatal. It's well documented your body will go into forced sleep while you are awake if you decide to skip sleeping for 4-5 days.

I also take ambien. My ambien hallucinations are usually vertigo and lights floating as balls.

But last time i started cursing myself at the mirror, eventually got tired and went to sleep.

Doctors recomend that after taking Ambien you go to bed. The medication is know to cause sonambulism, hallucinations and memory loss. You shouldn't be on your phone after taking it.

I heard about a guy that took ambien, decided to browse his phone and woke up next morning with a pet ferret he bought but didn't remember, and my doctor told me a story about another guy that took ambien, went to the bathroom take a shit and was woken up still on the toilet seat by his histerical wife because he sent dick picks to everyone in his contact list.

My doctor was very adamant that I take it basically when Iwas in bed and going to sleep. I thought the issue was just that I could stumble around otherwise, but if they'd told me that those things could happen I'd been even more careful.

My roommate said that after I took a whole bunch of Ambien that I walked out playing with my pee pee. I wasn't jacking off or anything like that but I guess I was just bouncing it up and down. She told me the next day about it and I don't remember anything about it. I'm guessing it was pretty disturbing to her since she also has a pee pee but regardless it was pretty embarrassing just to hear about it. I think that's the worst experience I've had on Ambien.

The only other issue I ever had was talking to people who weren't there. My last episode which happened a few days ago was me talking to my roommate who wasn't even there and I was answering her. Well Ed, that's some weird wild stuff.

I recently found out that Valium does a hell of a lot better putting me to sleep than Ambien.

When my dad was going through dialysis he was having a very hard time sleeping so his doctor put him on Ambien. This was before smartphones so no crazy group dick picks, thankfully. His second night on it, he spent all night in the shed working on a project he hadn’t yet finished, in his robe in the middle of January, and “woke up” curled up on the outside swinging sofa my parents had on their back deck.

He didn’t remember any of it. He spent the rest of the day in a sorta disassociated state because he felt like he had lost his mind. I would have to be on death’s door from sleeplessness before I’d touch Ambien.
