A look at the output of Sony Interactive Entertainment for 2025

It reviewed good and got widespread criticism for its walking simulator gameplay.

What you are saying makes no sense. “It reviewed well but received widespread criticism for the core of the game”. What? No what you are citing is the divisiveness of the game. It was love it or hate it. That’ll be the same for Death Stranding 2, with perhaps a bit more action.

It seems you just want Death Stranding to be something it isn’t.

The only interesting one is sushi 2 tbh.

And i guess ds2 for the graphic and to see how much cringe can kojima condense in one game.

I'm not one of those who think a woman protagonist = woke dei infested trash, but still can't believe they ditched Jin for a female character and the thought process was:

"Jin was so cool, how we make a female character cooler than our previous main character? I know, give her 2 swords!" :messenger_beaming:

If the story is set hundreds of years from GoT, certainly there’s no way they could have kept Jin.
So you’re really arguing that they needed to have kept a male lead.
Are you also really upset that devs are trying to improve a sequel? Really?

Does it though? After Concord, one would hope Sony would take a long hard look at their success or lack thereof in the live service field, Hell Divers 2 being the one notable success.

Seems like they have, though? Lots of love-services stuff has been canceled and I’m pretty sure the decision to completely scrap Concord wouldn’t have been taken lightly.

Eh, I'm holding out for a 2025 showcase with something more inspiring.

Not a single thing there to interest me. I’d sell my PS5 if it wasn’t for GTA VI.
Honestly, Sony/PS needs to announce something brimming with testosterone (a.k.a. "toxic masculinity") soon to even out its offerings. This list is kinda tame overall. Not to say some of them aren't interesting. There needs be something brazenly/unapologetically thrilling to spice it up and ignite people's excitement.

Some folks here will disagree with me, but I think a Days gone 2 surprise announcement could maybe shake things up a bit.

If this bombs or simply never comes out can we stop holding Jade Raymond in high regard and let her retire and become a youtuber or something?

DS2, Ghost of Yotei and any suprise from PS first party for me. Personally find PS first party games to be usually of high quality and enjoyable.

Right. That was my point to the post I was responding to. That post said that Fairgame$ has to be released at some point. And I don't think that's true given all the live service trash that has bombed in 2023/2024.

In my opinion, if Sony were smart, they would (a) shit can it and all their live service games or (b) focus all their efforts on making one exceptional live service game instead of multiple half assed ones or ones that have gotten overwhelming negative feedback, such as Fairgame$.

For the love of God, yes. I've been saying this for years. This woman is the most overrated, snake oil salesman in the industry. Here's the Jade Raymond cycle:

(1) Start a new company.
(2) Make lofty promises about some new tech or game.
(3) Get lots of investors on board because she worked on Assassin's Creed 1.
(4) Leave the company before the hot new game or tech gets released.
(5) New game or tech either never releases or bombs.
(6) Company closes down.
(7) Repeat.

The only one I'm in for sure is DS2. I was really skeptical about the first one but ended up really enjoying the experience.
In the never ending stream of samey AAA games I trust Kojima to once again deliver something unique.

As for the other stuff. The multiplayer games don't interest me and the other single player stuff is more on the "Wait and see" side.
Last Soul Aside could be cool if there's decent depth and enemy variety. I hope that unlike Wukong it doesn't run like shit on ps5.
Ghost of Yotei could be cool if it's a big upgrade over the first one. If it's essentially just more of the same I'm going to wait for a deep discount.

Sony still own the IP for death stranding or not?, If the first game released on xbox doesn't that mean the same will happen with death 2 too in the future?

They were doing weird shit at E3. I'm not talking about that. (weird shit + live events).

leaving E3 was a multifaceted decision. but again I'm not talking about E3 at all.

Their pipeline is all screwed up, which is why they have been doing this instead.

their last showcase was in 2023....what are you even talking about?

it had a bad reception because it failed to deliver on expectations. WHY?....because a bunch of games got canceled or delayed. That is the point I'm making.

you can have both.

contradicting your own argument:

A lot of people caping for PlayStation´s current situation regarding their lackluster pipeline/showcases are clueless or very naive.

Games will always have a dynamic way of being shown, and marketing strategies will vary (this has been true even with showcases). For example, TLoU was revealed at TGA.

No one is asking Sony to have a showcase every 12 months, but rather that when they choose to hold one, it actually delivers. and they haven't delivered not because of a "change in strategy" but because they fucked up their pipeline. it's baffling that people don't realize this.

In other words, Sony now has a deficit of 3-4 games that should have been released by now. How can you make a showcase when you don’t have the content to... showcase? And they don’t have the content because, as I’ve said several times, they got screwed by GaaS (which also impacted single-player games) — because it affected entire studios.

Hermen Hulst himself said their strategy is now "show don't tell", this is not speculation.

They could have done in 2024 a showcase full of in-engine rendered trailers and fake scripted demos showcasing all their pipeline covering all the 2025-2027 lineup. Nothing prevented that and they had the contents to do that.
Just like they have done in the past. They didn't. They chose to announce things like Astrobot, Ghost of Yotei and Intergalactic individually while keeping other stuff still under wraps.

The whole gaas is evil angle is also imo pretty much shortsighted and blinded by obvious personal dislike for this type of content.
Most of the gaas contents have been handled by studios acquired for the purpose, the only real unfortunate impact was on Naughty Dog that wanted to turn the TLOU2 multiplayer into a full game, but Bungie, Firewalk, Firesprite, Deviation, Haven and whatever have their own story.
Also for Sony having a huge success like Helldivers2 is more meaningful than having a single player game that brings no recurrent revenues, they won't give up on this because some people don't like these games.

Anyway it's pointless to drag the discussion forever, as I said I think the era of showcases is over.
I expect bigger State of Plays with scattered big announcements next year as well, starting with something in January/February.

Death Stranding is the only one Im keeping my eyes on.
Ghost looks dubious at best, so I'm not into yet. It needs waay more convincing.

Sure makes sense. The critics rated it high but many gamers all over the internet mocked it and called it a walking simulation.

Even in this thread.

Yeah, because every opinion on the internet is right!

The plain fact is it doesn't matter if some people don't like it, only that enough people did. And evidently it got enough love to deserve a sequel.

I rather it changes the walking simulator aspect.
This is obviously triggering some of you and it shouldn't.

Yotei is pretty much the only thing in the list I'm interested in. No disrespect to Death Stranding, I just couldn't get into it. I appreciated it for its design and concept more than I did as a game to play. I hope the second one is as successful, it's just not a game series that interests me.

As for MLB, I bought The Show 24 used so I'm not going to be buying another MLB game until they can actually make a true current-gen version that isn't hamstrung by the need to port it to last gen hardware and the original Switch.

The only thing good going from Sony First Party at the moment, hoping Barlog's team has something to show next year...

DS2 is going to win GOTY because muh Kojima, even tho the game will be twice the walking simulator it was the first game...
Well the first game was amazing and had the coolest online component I've ever experienced as well as playing into the game's themes of connection and community so I'd love it if that had won GOTY but seems From is good at winning over Geoff

NOthing of value.
My hope is in third parties hands.

This is sony worst gen ever when it comes to quality first party games.

Even the ps3 had much better games and also introduced many new first party titles amongs tlou and uncharted series being the high light.

Midnight Murder Club: meh
MLB: I don't care
DS2: The first one was one of the most boring experiences I've ever had
Ghost of Yōtei: Another woke Sony crap on the way
Lost Soul Aside: Looks great but I need to see more
Convallaria: Looks fun

i still have a huge backlog to get through so i may just focus on that

but ghost of yotei is the only one that stands out for me. Maybe the ARPG/lost soul aside will be interesting too but i'll wait on reviews

DS1 didn't click with me despite the awesome Hideo Kojima vibes....I liked the story and easter eggs but the gameplay just was not my thing.

I agree, even though most of the games named in this thread don't appeal to me personally. It's good that Sony is spreading their wings with some new IP; I just wish they would do so in genres that I'm interested in.

PS5 has been out for 4 years already, yet Sony has still failed to fully convince me to step up from the trusty ol' PS4. Astro Bot sure looks great, though. I'll still continue to keep an eye on their game lineup, as maybe some other pleasant surprises will come down the pike.
I'm in a very similar position. So far almost every PS5 game I've wanted has also been playable on my PS4.

Astro Bot and GoY might be enough to male me upgrade.

Oh hey, wasn't sure if Midnight Murder Club was a XDEV America project, now I know it is.

These folks have only produced Concord so far, hopefully this one fares much better.
Also... I thought they handled Helldivers 2 as well, but that was by San Mateo Studio (which produces games by SIEA's subsidiaries like The Last of Us Part I and Spider-Man 2), and looking at how it lasted 8 years in development, I guess it makes sense (SMS previously produced externally-developed games like Helldivers and Ratchet & Clank).
