Assassin's Creed Shadows to feature Denuvo & mandatory Ubisoft account linking

Can't sell you XP boosting microtransactions to make the game less repetitive and grindy if you can just boost your Xp with a trainer or mod

100% this is the reason why. It’s a game that’s so amazing to play, they hope people will pay money to skip playing it. Lol.

I was just wondering what Ubisoft would do to start their redemption arc with consumers.

Denuvo! And mandatory third party linking!

This game is going to be so fucking good and not another nail in Ubisoft's impending coffin!

Remember, I just want to turn off my brain and have light and breezy fun in a historically accurate environment where I play as a towering black man killing Japanese people in feudal Japan to modern hip hop looping music track. So why do I care about shitty practices? I don't ask questions and I just consume product and get excited for next product!

Ubisoft redeemed fuckers! Don't @ me!

So the game uses the same DRM as basically every other AAA PC release and requires the same launcher as every other Ubisoft game?

...the PC version of Assassin's Creed Shadows will feature Denuvo, a controversial DRM software detested by the community for negatively affecting loading times and framerate in games, something Denuvo's creator Irdeto categorically denies, blaming its low reputation on pirates and gamers.

The second caveat relates to another requirement the community generally dislikes: the mandatory account linking to the studio's Ubisoft Connect platform when buying Assassin's Creed Shadows on Steam.

To top it all off, Shadows' EULA also includes a provision that allows the game to monitor your PC's RAM to ensure you're not running any unauthorized programs like macros, cheats, or hacks, a well-intentioned clause that nonetheless feels a touch out of place in a single-player game and could potentially scare off some of the more suspicious players who aren't comfortable with their hardware being monitored.

Somebody at Ubisoft definitely wants this game to fail. Really seems like they're going all in on the bad PR at this point.

This is absolute insanity.
it’s like giving someone physical access to your computer.

This is so bad in light of the most recent cpu security flaws.

Gotta make sure no mod is able to edit the look of any character, right Ubisoft? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Good luck to those still interested in this shit, enjoy.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
It's not so much Denuvo as it is the developers who decide to use it.

I have respect for publishers/developers like Larian of Baldurs Gate 3 that released their games DRM free on a platform like GOG. That's a huge and popular game and they just went ahead and decided to release it DRM free. Same thing for the people who are behind STALKER 2.

That's just anti-cheat software isn't it?

Doesn’t this game have multiplayer? Because if not - who cares?

Oh, it’s about the boost items MX, isn’t it?

Do casual gamers outside of internet hot spots even know or care about this? As a consumer I'm not impressed, but I also feel like I represent a small % of people in the know. Or is it just a sum of the parts added to already obvious issues. Ubi going to Ubi, then blame consumers for not buying their game.

Games not made by Ubisoft he means
A lot of non-Ubisoft games have Denuvo. Many games released by other big publishers, like EA, Activision, or Rockstar have some kind of launcher or account requirement. I know Veilguard didn't have that but that's an exception.

They do, but there are also a bunch that do not have Denuvo or an extra launcher requirement.

Baldurs Gate 3
Elden Ring

For instance

High chance the pirated version will have better performance, i remember RE Village experienced exactly that, pirated version somehow faked denuvo connection and it suddenly gave pirates much more stable performance w/o hitches, that legit customers had to deal with for a long while(till denuvo was removed ).
Edit: There u go, proof right there:

They're terrified someone is going to mod out the black guy and mod in a Japanese character instead, then videos of this go viral and they have more uncomfortable questions about race following them for months.
