Or it'll make him so bored/annoyed he'll stop at episode 7 and swear to avoid edgy Japanese techno-thriller animes like the plague in the future.
i'm going to leave my review as-is as a monument to my stupidity
/edit goddamnit i was even thinking about how the art-style with its lack of shading and thin-lined efficiency was 100% hosoda
I think of all the shows im still watching, Yuri on Ice is probably the most flagrant and guilty show of just almost completely objectifying its characters and putting them into sexy poses and lingering, revealing shots, Victor has probably spent more time naked than any other character this season for example, lol plus guys are pretty much dry humping the ice at points. And to be honest thats what im still watching it for at this point. Because theres fuck all else happening in the show. No exaggeration the characters in Free! have a marina trench worth of depth in comparison to Yuri on Ices. And im sure the shows creators aim is to emphasis the sexiness of having hot guys in skimpy outfits doing proactive dances as much as possible and hey more power to them.
Flip Flappers id say usually justifies it. It usually is woven into the story and serves some point like the shower/bath scene in episode 4 when Cocona and Papika were laying everything bare and opening up to one another. Or episode 8 and the blatant ass shot, which is a shot you see in tons of mecha anime so I guess you could call it a homage or inter-textual fanservice and the world was being partly influenced by Bu-chan who is a pervert which explains the voyeuristic angles. So at least there was some context for why it was happening and its built into the story/world so I didnt mind it but I could totally understand why some people find it off-putting.
Though it compares unfavourably to my mind with Shinkai's later work, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time smacks of his trademark styles;

What? Its one of the few anime that excellently combines magic science and technology with an intriguing school setting. The lead is up there with Kirito and Touma Kamijou for how youre supposed to write a lead character.Mahouka was boring as fuck. I believe that was the season I decided to stop watching garbage.
.....No, no I don't.Remember when haly wasn't a big bully
Which makes the comment of it being inferior to "his" later works kinda funny as I don't know if anyone would place Summer Wars or Beast over it (MAYBE Wolf Children though).
I personally liked Wolf Children over TGWLTT but I may need a rewatch.
edit: Holy shit, TGWLTT was 10 years old this year? Time for a rewatch.
Valvrave S1 confirmed for the best anime ever.
Followed by Another and Blood-C.
I sort-of think that that isn't the creator's only aim. When the show DOES bother to do character beats it does them pretty well; episode 7 for instance does a decent job. It's just so swallowed up by parading quirky skaters past us without a life outside the rink that it doesn't have time to do it enough.
Mentally for me there's a distinction not just in the fact that one show is filled with manservice and the other isn't, but in terms of... well, I can't think of a better word than consent.
Yuri on Ice rather specifically does not sexualise its teenage characters . Some of the 15/16/17 year olds are portrayed as rather childlike, but their routines and attitudes match this (note how Yurio's dance is on agape, a pure concept of love, and the suggestion is that his eros would come from anger and desire to win rather than something sexual). It's only when you get into the 20-something skaters that the sexualised elements come into play. Flip Flappers, by contrast, takes the time-honoured anime route of sexualising high school girls, with issues that play counter to Western sensibilities as a result.
Yuri on Ice is also a highly performative anime. While the characters are obviously the pawns of the writers in terms of their sexually suggestive dialogue and so forth, they are often quite literally performing for an audience; Christophe's routine for instance is deliberately chosen to accentuate his libido, essentially, and everything about it is an active choice by the character to display this characteristic - there's an understanding that the camera shows him grabbing his own ass because that's where he wants the focus of the moment to be. Flip Flappers, exactly as you describe, is voyeuristic; the camera lingers in private places, showing illicit things rather than stuff put on show. While the scenes taking place may be justified by the plot, the viewer's presence as a spectator is not.
While this probably doesn't really mean anything in terms of your comments, it's certainly one reason where I'm much more comfortable with Yuri's occasionally ridiculous fanservice than Flip Flappers. Bluntly, I don't feel like a perve watching it.

Heh, where are these from?
It's not from a drama CD, it's from the radio show hosted by Kurosawa Tomoyo (Kumiko) and Anzai Chika (Reina) with the title "Hibike! Euphoradio 2 ~Kumiko And Reina's Want To Be Special Radio~", aired every other week, in turn with the other Hibike! radio show hosted by Hazuki and Midori's seiyuus.
Gate was shit from episode 1, though.Gate S2 was disappointing as hell. First season was much better. Oh well, at least I'm done with it now.
Nah, bruh. First season was pretty good for the most part.Gate was shit from episode 1, though.

Morio Asaka returning as director, too. So this is officially very exciting indeed.

I think it's about time I check out that series. Kinda forgot in the meantime that he was its director.
Also pretty much the entire voice cast.
They gettin' the band back together.
Both of these series have that one character who is just an absolute piece of trash and Kou has cemented himself as the one.Chi is just misguided and chose the wrong path in order to make herself stronger and is gonna need her beat to beat the crap out of her to see the error of her was. Kou figuratively and literally jerks off to the suffering and despair of the people he's facing and lives he's ruining. Episode also went a long ways in showing things aren't so different from the original game as they were seeming to be.

Hopefully they can all still play their characters. It's painful to hear a VA return decades later to voice one of their old characters and no longer be able to pull off any kind of convincingly young voice.
Man, this was a downright fantastic episode. The comedy and the art was on point. The first two-thirds of the episode was just hilarious. Every moment I thought it couldn't get any better, it just kept going. It was great to see the Gatchmon/Navimon rivalry come back, and they were hilarious throughout the whole episode. Perorimon also had some really great scenes, especially during the race. Pretty much everything in the Cyber Arena was just a ton of fun.
Rumor is, watching Texhnolyze can make a man whole again.
