Beardo Benjo: "VR is the future of gaming."

Should VR games still be tailor made for VR? Or just an additional mode for every single flatscreen game?

I've been saying this for a while.

Games should also allow regular controller support in VR modes for bigger games to make it an easier entry.

VRified games and VR gamers being so adamant about it is not helping the adoption either, along with the price right now.

Being able to just play something like COD or Battlefield in VR with a regular controller would still be amazing and would help people get into VR.

Half Life 2 in VR is absolutely amazing btw.

I want full vr modes for existing games MORE than dedicated vr games. And trying to translate a flat game to hand controls is a big ask for those conversions. I'm cool with a controller. Astrobot, Wipeout, RE7, Polybius, plenty of games are great seated with a controller and/or 3rd person. It's not much to ask ESPECIALLY when sony hinted this was in the cards.

I would be fine if standard controllers were included alongside motion controllers. As a flatscreen game, Silent Hill 2 wasn't even on my radar until I found out it was playable in VR via modding, it was initially third person with normal controls, but now you can opt to play it in first person, motion-controlled weapons and torch, even motion controlled melee allows for things you can't do in flatscreen.

if modders can do it....

:/ Shameful state of affairs, really. The best thing about psvr2 is that it's attached to a ps5 that can handle a lot of these games, at least with a reasonable visual downgrade. Sony fucked that up. No alyx and those codemasters racing games skipping it? Pfft. It's still a nice set but it if there were more gran turismos and re8's it would be amazing.

Hahaha, yeah. I actually sub to this guy because I find VR interesting (I do own a PSVR2 and a PC adapter) but it makes me sick so I can barely play it. This guy while I think I remember him saying he does play some non-VR games plays the vast majority of his games in VR so of course he would say this.

I think we are very far from VR being anything close to even standing side by side with traditional consoles and PC gaming. I just don't ever see VR being mainstream enough.

I rarely ever play my VR because 1. I get sick after awhile (we talking like entire body hot, head pounding, eyes hurting and as somebody that gets migraines I don't like risking it much) and 2. because it's a fucking hassle. I gotta get my PSVR out of the tv stand and hook it up, move my coffee table out of the way which it's not like it's heavy but I gotta make sure space is cleared and while that's not a lot of work obviously but it's enough to make me not bother often. It's worse if I wanna play on PC because I gotta pair the controllers to my PC every time I've used it on PS5 and vice versa.

I will probably try to work my way through Metro Awakening and sell it honestly. I got it for pretty cheap on eBay in amazing condition and complete in box for $250 including everything and the charging dock.

VR might not be very relevant now, but I really do think it's the future of video games very far into the future.

VR is the future of porn, not videogames
I've dabbled here and there in the virtual reality of porn and it's got a LONG way to go just like gaming. It's hard to find free shit, and here's the thing I can pop up JAV Guru and watch whatever I want for free. Also while I'm not against it sometimes the proportions are way off like I'm getting fucked by a 9ft tall woman.

Whollllle lot of people can’t handle shooters without warp controls in VR.

That was a fun video. I agree that a mode would be nice.
I've tried do do some of the Unreal PC VR mods and they take too much time and energy to get all the settings playable. Things like Eye level so you don't see the player model is too difficult. And settings the controls are impossible for some of these games.
Making a mode that automagically sets these things would help alot.
This would allow more VR games to have high quality world textures instead of the usual flat cartoony stuff that usually gets presented in VR.

Not at all the future, still just a niche.

Solve the problem 100% where noone gets sick either while playing or after, and then talk to me.

Not until they provide headsets with much better FOV. Looking at the gameworld through two little lenses kills my immersion every time.

Anyone who says they don't want to play cyberpunk in VR and just walk/drive around that city is just... Dead Inside, the game looks incredible on my PS5 let alone a path traced modded PCVR experience

I don't want that at all. I'm good with a big curved monitor, quality headphones, and a nice controller.

A headbucket and waggle sticks would make the experience much worse.

AR games kind of suck. AR is best for non gaming stuff. "Productivity"
Triangle Strategy is mixed reality. It feels like the future.

Highly doubt that. VR requires too much effort to use.

Its a bit like 3D from back when when manufacters and the entertainment industry was pushing it, but people couldn't be arsed with glasses and positioning.

I'll give it a go on my Quest 3, after I get some hours into Stalker 2 first.

Even if headsets were 100% perfect and free, it still wouldn't catch on, because it is this style of gaming itself that is unliked, not the barriers.

It's all well and good I can unindex my spreadsheet and treat it like it was a real object, but is it really necessary or helpful beyond the short term novelty?

It's cool for a time, then it wears off. I get it, I loved my virtual boy too, but this is that. Don't think you are experiencing a future we are too dumb or poor to partake in. We aren't. We tried it already and it wasn't good. To us. The younger you are the more you will like this and not for any existential reason, just that kids like novelty.

Don't be shocked nintendo never tried this. They did. Virtual boy is old old old. This sucks for the same reasons that did. Sorry fellas.

It works for racing games and such, but for games like say Skyrim and Fallout 4, proper VR controls and interfaces would have made the games much better.

That Silent Hill 2 Vr Mod is quite Amazing when you think about it. Honestly Yeah VR support for most games would be a fantastic Thing

I wish all games were VR. The best experiences I have ever had in videogaming were all VR.
Elder Scrolls, RE 7 and Astrobot come to mind. And I've been gaming since the 80s and gone thru all console and PCs since then.
Too bad Sony dropped the ball. It's money I'm not spending.

In the defense of those people I think streaming is much more the future then VR. Though even that has a long road ahead of it before it’s viable for a good amount of the world.

It works for racing games and such, but for games like say Skyrim and Fallout 4, proper VR controls and interfaces would have made the games much better.
Racing games are where VR has shined the brightest for me because it eliminates a lot of the unnatural parts of VR like movement and interaction.

Playing GT7 with a wheel at my desk is the single best VR experience I’ve ever had and the only one where I don’t feel terrible after and hour.

Skyrim had er... acceptable vr controls and I agree it added a lot. I'm just saying I could go without if the developer decided it was enough of a challenge to not be worth it. For me, a vr headset alone is an awesome upgrade for input and output. If I could play rebirth or stellar blade all the same, but with a vr camera (able to look around, depth perception, sensory deprivation, otherwise "there"), I would be quite happy.

100% it'll take a while. But even say 20-30 years from now....absolutely.

Technological progress is going to solve most of the issues with it currently.

I think the gaming will be part of it, but also just straight up simulations and stuff like that.

I'm all for it.

Even things like Google Earth are such amazing VR expierences.

GT7 VR is one of the best games of this generation.

Horror is where VR shines as well.

Try playing more stationary games for a while if you have motion sickness from movement. I've only been motion sick a few times and that was early on, I can play anything for hours now and never get it.

GT7 was already one of the best games of the generation (despite being inferior to the older games like 4/6 in many ways IMO) but VR breathed new life into it.

I’m currently playing Metro Awakening which has been great.

I think most of my “sickness” is more of an eye issue. I have an astigmatism (also prone to migraines) and my eyes get tired easily. I also tend to not blink as much as I should when I’m focusing. I definitely get motion sickness as well but the eye strain is the real killer.

I tend to stick to blink movement in games but with Metro it’s so claustrophobic that I just couldn’t do it and had to use regular stick movement which has been making it worse.
