It is the future but a lot of stuff has to be fixed before it is mass adopted.

Still, there has been good progress since the release of the original Oculus Rift and will continue improving, specially with companies like Meta making big bets on it (despite me not liking them and probably not buying their hardware).

Are you stuck in 2010 OP ?
VR is the future we deserved, but that was robbed from us by the lack of investment from software companies.
VR is in a terminally ill state now...

It's inevitable, vr/ar will be mainstream eventually when it takes over the phone space. We are still a ways off though, still early days. Oculus CV1 isn't even 9 years old yet and look where headsets were then vs now.

VR stagnated for a couple of reasons, but I believe the primary reason, other than convenience and comfort, was because it was impossible for non-vr games to be ported to the headsets at the fidelity required. 90 hz minimum and 4x the resolution. Until graphics tech flattens out and gives us a "final product", ie., it can do 4k at 120 hz and render anything you throw at it without performance loss, this is still going to be a problem. People don't want to play an uglier version of the game theyre excited about. VR needs to be the cherry on top that increases immersion rather than decreases it. It will be stuck as a niche (but slowly growing) gaming device market segment. But I do believe that the day is near. Within five years.

The 4k/90hz stuff is pure bullshit. I can tell you there is a healthy amount of people here playing Batman at 72hz and its more than fine on MOBILE hardware. No PC required. The resolution is actually really crisp but it looks like a 360 game in many ways in terms of textures etc. The post above proves no one cares because the Batman bundle is destroying every gaming console on Amazon. If it was that big of deal, no one would be buying it. The opposite is true.

His other predictions :

Hillary is going to win in 2016
He will finally get laid and he won't even have to pay anyone to do it

The most profitable tech company in the world tried with VR and failed. VR is niche. It will probably stay niche until the technology advances significantly.

People have strange expectations for VR. I already feel like Batman Arkham Shadows heavily outclasses a lot of the bigger current gen games in immersion.

VR didn't really stagnate but chose a different direction and is quickly reaching back to where it was graphically while offering much better affordability and accessibility.

Have they? The Meta Quest 3/3s are dome of the best selling tech on Amazon. This year had the most stacked lineup of quality VR titles in a long time.

Saying such a thing at a time when VR is slowly dying, is kinda stupid.
All indicators say that it is slowly growing. Steam VR use is trending growth, standalone use trending growth as well. The only platform that is slowly dying is PSVR2. Not hating on PSVR2, just the reality of the situation.

Failed is when you stop. Quest 4 is already being developed and will absolutely release. Quest 3s is still in its early days so we're judging that way too early, but they haven't stopped at all. In fact, this year is definitely the biggest year for VR in terms of games. I'm talking big name AAA games too. Not to mention, Amazon is showing the opposite is true in terms of popularity. There are definitely signs of life at the very least.

It's still niche. The total sales of all VR units to date are comparable to the SNES, which sold around 49 million units. That’s one console, while VR sales represent an entire category of devices.
