What's tve problem? Do you want it to have some generic name like "the last vengeance" or something like this? Are you american for complaining about something not in english?
Sure, all games should have half of their names in French:

Hill Silencieuse
God of la Guerre
The Sorceleur
Le Souffle
of the Wild
Final Fantaisie
Counter-Attaque

And when pronouncing the French part we must have a big sense of self- importance and look like this:

As already mentioned you can consider the title to be entirely French for Clair Obscur : Expédition 33.
It's not the case for your silly examples.
And the dev when interviewed in french, say it in french.
For all your examples, we use the english even if you speak about it in french.

In my opinion the title is french and they used the english "expedition thirty three" for the marketing aspect to hit a more global audience.

I can see your point but don't get why it's such a big deal.

Here's how they write it on their homepage. No "é".

On an english page.

I've seen interviews where the director says" Expédition Trente Trois".
Outisde of this accent, the title works fully in french and was just used in english to hit a more global audience. And from what I've seen, it's mostly referred as just "Expedition 33" from the English speaker rather than "Clair Obscur".

Anyway, I'll not argue on a title. You don't like it, I find it really fitting.
It fits their game narrative and themes perfectly while acknowledging the French root of it and still keep an easy short version "Expedition 33" for the english market.

Clair Obscure are two french words... It's also an expression used in painting to describe the contrast between lightness and darkness...

I guess you ignored that "obscure" came from french where i'd written in the exact same way.

Chiaroscuro is the name of it, clair obscure is the French translation of it.

Anyway, I won't derail this thread anymore, I'm off to play Incroyable Mario Soixante-Quatre.

Imagine being a french studio making a game with french culture elements and having an american telling you that your title is dogshit just because english is full of french loan words and when proved wrong, that person moves the goalpost telling you you should use the english word which is actually an italian word. 🤡

Technically without the accent on "e" it's english.

But I agree that just for an accent, the title is french for me

I suspect it was made for aesthetic reason, french titles seems to drop accents sometimes. But you've got a point.

I'm Nordic...

And I don't know what goalposts you're talking about since I've been very consistent since my first comment. Chiascuro is the international and English term for it, even if it's Italian in origin.

Okay Nordic, so you want to force a french studio to have its own game based on french culture to not use a french title? Nice mentality.

P.S. Next time use mountains, chocolate, watches and banks for your cliché image if you want to be accurate about me.

This is one of my most highly anticipated games. Who needs Square Enix any more.

I would love for Sony to contract them out to make a remake of Legend of Dragoon.

Edit: They should put out the early access demo for everyone to play. Could be a major hit.

Not gonna lie I thought this was some generic 3rd person game like that one that came out recently and flopped. Mainly because of the dumb name and I guess box art. Taking a glancing look at this you would think it was just some no name AA game. Sometimes naming matters.

However, after seeing the hype and checking out the preview this game looks fantastic and is on my play list.

Everyone knows real games use the word "fall".

It should be Expeditionfall: War of the War.

So the people here who are upset a french studio uses french words can be like:

If the developers are French I don't consider it pretentious. Nobody cries when the Japanese come up with ridiculous names (I am currently playing a game called Crymachina)

Don't say that in this thread unless you want people to go

Unknown 9: the awokening is what it reminded me of, purely because of the name and box art.

I don't care if it's a Japanese thing or french thing or if french words are used. You can use french and still have a good name.
But what's your definition of a "good name" ? If it's "Dark Souls" or "The Last Faith", sorry but no that's fucking boring. I prefer that name, which may sound weird to you, but has a nice painting connotation than any of these boring "war", "the last", "dark", "revengeance", "vengeance", "return" that 99% of game titles overuse.

Max Payne is my definition of a good name
