UMVC3 is all peer to peer with some use of MSFT/Sony leaderboards; I don't think there's much to worry about there. It's not like Demon's Souls where there are servers critical to the operation of the world.

Well, there is the Heroes and Heralds mode, which I assume has to be run. Sadly it's the only way to unlock the silver alts.

So.
What do we do after EVO when, like with every other important event for the last year or so, we don't get any new announcement from Capcom?
"Wait for TGS", I suppose?

Yeah, I'm trying not to get on this hype train... ^^

If anything, maybe a USFIV PS4 port reveal at EVO, but I've given up on that after they announced PSNow support for the PS3 version,

I don't even know what to say to this.

I am assuming this is a follow up to the Vita stuff being pulled for UMC3. Either that or it's a warning that the UMVC3 online play is about to shut down.

Or.... MVC4 about to be confirmed at EVO LET'S GO!!!

Or maybe he's talking specifically about (U)MvC3 xD Such an open ended tweet.

Ultra Ultimate MvC3: New Age of Zeros
and still no Mega Man

they probably have side bets at capcom on how many people they can fool with vague tweets.

Ono started with the new character in sf4 tweets and now it's nitsuma's turn lol

I'd listen to Spooky commentate grass growing.

"Yeah, stalk on the bottom right has the growth lead right now, but the stalk on the top left has the most water...it can still make something happen...Okay, that top left stalk just used up all its water and now it has the lead...the bottom right stalk is trying to keep growing but I think its out of resources...Top left's got this...it's over."

Also note that in the male-only tournament, there's ultra whereas tekken is women-only lol

The whole thing is dumb. This part is really dumb though.

So this esports tournament banned women from entering most of the games they offer like Hearthstone, SC2 and Dota 2.
And they say the fgc is sexist.

I think the dumbest part is this:

"The decision to divide male and female competitions was made in accordance with international sports authorities, as part of our effort to promote e-Sports as a legitimate sports."

People who don't understand sports trying to make a sport, right Ultradavid?

Also, I'm awaiting the ultimate PR disaster when Scarlett qualifies for this IeSF SC2 tournament.

"Awww man, top right stalk is the furthest east and now it's sunlight meter is full. Let's see if it can make something happen.."

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
Lest we forget SF4 had its own creepy women's sideshow at Evo 2010.

(Still not as bad, as everyone was allowed to enter the main SF4 tourney)
Doesn't the second statement kind of invalidate that whole comparison?

It was a decent outreach effort, or at least one with good intentions and inoffensive execution, from what I remember.. The only criticism I could think of is whether or not it's "worth it" to do something like that in place of another main event.

... True.

People who don't understand sports trying to make a sport, right Ultradavid?

yeah, exactly. it's like someone's dad told whoever made this decision about how he heard his friends used to play sports, like it's stupid sports stereotypes as interpreted through a bad game of telephone. people involved with that event, from the people at the top making decisions right down to the people who decide to support it by playing in or watching it, can all honk off

wtf

This is fucking ridiculous.

How is this not on the front page of GAF getting blown up?

The hero-worship and idolization of Sports Culture and ESPN is really obnoxious when it rears its head.

It did but fell off.

Your USF4 pool definitely looks doable. Sange Tencho is a pretty good Fei Long player. Unless one of these other guys is actually really good, he should be the favorite to take the pool. But getting out in losers is probably up for grabs and I think you have a good shot at it.

Figured as much. I can handle Fei with Hawk, I think. It's a fairly even match-up now because Fei can't bully Hawk anymore and I can counterpoke Fei buttons pretty easily.

Nice, but I might just skip pools to practice for USF4, lol.

CPR went 3-2 in 2012 and 2-2 in 2013. Just in case he's in your bracket line.

I don't think CPR is going though. We call him our local gatekeeper now, lol.

Hey Shouta, you have a new pool for Blazblue: http://evo2014.s3.amazonaws.com/brackets/bbcp_h6.html

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I can't even beat Spark, Huey253, or Wuku. I don't expect to get past bananaken, lol.

Niitsuma plz. "Nothing's decided yet!" is such a typical JP answer. =P

From what i google translated earlier, he was also remarking on how snake and smug are both pad users, and how that may offer them interesting advantages because of their buttons being different/harder to read.
The KOF players were definitely onto something with the hide-a-way boxes.

are there any JP Dudleys on Smug's level?

I'm pretty sure there are competent Dudley players in Japan but I think Smug is on top, he's proven it through tournament results, online ranking and having pretty good records against top players.

Just for reference, when Evo did that women's tournament, were women prevented from entering the main tournament?

I read a post earlier in the thread that everyone was allowed in the actual SSF4 tournament. Being restricted to a specific type of tournament based on gender (or anything for that matter) would probably stir up some controversy.

Nope.

I think I agree with on the side "women only" tournaments, as long as the main ones are open to everyone. Just like what Chess is doing.
I'm not sure it would help in the long run, but MAYBE it would bring in some female players who doesn't want to deal with the very male-heavy oriented atmosphere of the community, and help them make "the jump" afterwards. Or it would ostracize them even more, I don't know.
But either way, something need to be done, or some clever idea to be found, because at the moment we can't say that just opening up your doors to women make all the problems go away. Because we can clearly see that in the FGC it is not working, or bringing enough girls in the roster.

can anyone translate this blog post by akimo? apparently he was amazed by how good snake eyez and smug are.
http://ameblo.jp/akimo123/entry-11887481476.html

I know Fubar tweeted out some thoughts from Dunhill and Nishikin

@fubarduck: Nishikin and Dunhill agreed that @SmugDaBeast and @Snake_Eyez_ were the most impressive players. "They should get invited to Japan to play!"

@fubarduck: "If they played in Japan, they'd be top ranked for their char. Hopefully we can have a big console tourney since they're both pad players"

WE'RE EATING FAM

New fighting game/mahvuru patch announcement at EVO, let's fucking go.
We should do a poll next week for what we think the game is, should it be announced. (DS4/VS4, Alpha 4, MvC4, Capcom Fighting All-Stars, JojJo's 2, etc.)
Nope.

I also really like the sister/side tournaments that showcase the female players (heck a "young'ns" bracket for kid player would also be cool at something like EVO) because it gives people exposure who wouldn't otherwise get it to let people know they're not alone out there. I don't think 50/50 is ever really going to be achievable, but an open event that welcomes everyone sure is. MTG is a massive sausagefest at competitive level play, but the amount of women explodes as you go more and more casual in playstyle.
