Feel kinda forced to buy the jump potion starting out on a new account as DPS. The wait times for dungeons required for MSQ are really long and makes it difficult to level from scratch. Might just come back to it at a later point.
General consensus is DRK is kinda boned too? Can anyone elaborate?
Use your FC. I've never failed to find someone to queue with me when I try to play DPS, and I plan on abusing GAFs friendliness to level up my RMG soon.
Most of what I've seen is just DRKs and WARs grumbling over changes to their rotations for now. I don't believe DRK is boned, just it's a much different place than before.
I kinda wanted to do that but wasn't sure if I'd be bugging GAF FC since I'm sure most are doing SB stuff lol.
Whatever though, I'm about 10 MSQs away from HW now at least...
Levelling my SAM at work using remote play on my MacBook like an evil genius.
One of my group's healers is having a blast "rescuing" the rest of us. I'm sure the novelty will die off soon enough, but he's getting so much enjoyment out of it, kinda hard to be mad.

Ha! Had an AST rescued me during Ruby in Shisui. I missed my window to turn myself into an old hag so they yanked me out of the AoE. Loved it. Thanks Peach Desu!

I've heard people say that a lot of their kit that makes them fun is locked between 60-70, which is kind of a deal breaker for me since I plan on continuing to play lower level dungeons. From my VERY limited time with the post patch game so far, WAR still feels pretty similar to how it used to play at 60 (though I say this as someone who never played any high level instances/raids, so I'm used to incredibly sub optimal rotations).
Still, the lack of fell cleave at lower level dungeons is still kind of a bummer, so I'm curious how lower level Paladin feels.
Never hurts to ask. I'd be down to help as well, though I'm barely ever online lately.
What's the best way to learn to not be bad at this game? I'm sort of new to MMOs and feeling a little overwhelmed with what sort of skill rotations to use and situations to look out for. I'm a WHM still working on breezy base game content right now for what it's worth

What are healers even cross-classing in that they can take rescue? Protect, Swiftcast, Esuna, Lucid Dreaming and Largesse all seem too important drop; I guess there are a few dungeons where there's nothing to Esuna but if I dropped that I'd want to slot Cleric in and still not have room for rescue in dungeons.
8-mans I could just make the other healer take protect to free up space I guess. But then I'd want to swap in Eye for an Eye.
You can cast protect and then swap it off without losing the buff from what I've read, so you could do that. Dropping Largesse probably isn't a big deal for dungeons as well beyond dropping big HoTs all you can do more.
I want to say they have the actual best damage @70 for the tanks. All mitigation stuff is mostly equal at this point as well. TBN is still a loss per use but it's pretty minor (e.g., the break even point is around 400 base potency and it sits at 380). My first-hand impressions will wait for after PLD since I chose to do that one second since DRK's 60-70 seems to be most soul crushingly bad of the three.
Protect, Swiftcast, Esuna, Lucid Dreaming and Rescue. I maybe have Rescue because of the novelty, but at the same time Largesse feels like a novelty as well because it is very rare I ever go "I wish my healing was stronger."What are healers even cross-classing in that they can take rescue? healer role selection is too much
Ah. I'm too lazy to skill-swap mid dungeon, but that would cover that.
And I originally had cleric in the Largesse slot, but the boosted healing seemed to buy me more GCDs to DPS to an extent that the damage increase was greater than burning Cleric on CD.
I had no idea role skill switching on the fly was a thing.I'm lazy too, so I found a macro on reddit that works beautifully
/macrolock
/macroicon Protect
/echo You are now switching to Protect.
/aaction Swiftcast off
/aaction Protect on
/ac Protect <wait.3>
/aaction Protect off
/aaction Swiftcast on

/recast Swiftcast
works like a dream! not sure if it matters but I have Swiftcast in the 1st role slot.
Susano has some of the easiest mechanics of any primal, yet people still can't move their Levins correctly smh.
I'd be down for it, I'm levelling my AST. I'm at 42 at the moment though!I kinda wanted to do that but wasn't sure if I'd be bugging GAF FC since I'm sure most are doing SB stuff lol.

You've got a cross-role action that reduces your threat generation and regenerates MP.So this might be kind of a dumb/noob question, but what exactly are you supposed to do as a Redmage when you run low on MP? Both Black Mage and Summoner have specific options for regaining mp (umbral ice and atherflow/energy drain) but Red mage doesn't seem to have anything like that.

As a DRK, should I keep up Grit and Darkside?
Darkside, yes always. As a DRK, should I keep up Grit and Darkside?

Yeah, there is no room for anything else in light party content. What are healers even cross-classing in that they can take rescue? A long way to go. I think that is like 20% of the way to HW stuff, you have multiple more Primals to fight.
You're basically 20% in ARR
RIP. Far.
Oh wow, didn't know there was so much in between.https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/7th_Astral_Era_Quests
Thornmarch Hard is for the quest: You Have Selected Regicide
You've completed 242 quests in the base game and are now working on the pre-HW patch content
For the pre-HW patch content you are 16 out of 102 quests on your way to Heavensward!
Congrats!
Edit: please note that I'm listing your progress from Thornmarch Hard instead of when you get to the new HQ because I don't remember exactly which quest unlocks the new HQ

I play AST most often for reference.

Maybe it's just my confirmation bias showing, but from what I've gathered, WHM, DRK and SMN seem to have suffered the most from the recent changes.
Guess what my three main jobs are...
Thanks for the tips! Yeah I really should try to do other activities and not just waiting around. I joined some random FC, but not many are active there. Might try another one.Don't forget you can do a plethora of other activities while waiting in queue so you don't just stand in town while waiting. Fates are quite active now with the duty finder getting hammered, so you can go to any zone appropriate to your level and find people doing them. You can also switch to a crafter/gatherer and knock out some of that while waiting.
I don't really agree that it's the easiest mechanics at all. The mechanics on their own, individually, aren't hard at all. What throws people off is how there are A LOT of mechanics in the fight and it rotates around pretty quickly. That's different from having one or two more complex or challenging sets of mechanics which you can focus on.
I got AST to 70 on Saturday, I think? and Largesse was super helpful later on when mobs started hitting for a ton. Noct shields are pretty good overall, but the added healing boost definitely let me get more out of my casts which turned in to more gravities, etc.
I should probably try swapping it for Eye for an Eye at some point; it's just looking at the list for DF Rescue is like... eighth choice for me I think?
Oh man, thanks. Time to go into my summoner macros and find the code to dynamically remap buttons so I can just plop stuff straight on bars.
Yes, unless something major changed with the patch.
Darkside, yes always.
Grit, depends on what you are doing. If you have a solid amount of enmity built and think the healer will be fine without the mitigation (or you can replace it with a cooldown) then drop it and go nuts with blood weapon. As long as you have enmity, aren't dying, and have enough mana to turn back on grit in an emergency then it should be fine. Just remember to keep an eye on that enmity, dps can catch up fast.
Regardless I usually will do an entire dungeon run in grit if it's my first time, since I never know when ninja adds will pop up after a pull.
Darkside always. Grit can go off if you're off-tanking, or have enough of an aggro lead to drop it and can survive without the extra defense.
