Nah, it must be VR or at least VR compatible. If not the experience would be a downgrade coming from Alyx and specially HL2 with the VR mod. That shit's a game changer.

Can we please get some ports of the Valve titles in modern consoles? Portal on Switch was nice, but why not PS5 ports? With Portal RTX, I was hoping to see a port with a mode that focuses on Ray Tracing.

About time it happens! The Alyx gold 2 engine is the perfect engine for it so I never once believed they’ll only use it for Alyx only. I just hope Half Life 3 won’t be VR only and make Race X and other Xen alien return. Or even new aliens cause Combine is boring.

I am hoping for a more dynamic AI or something along those lines.If this is ever happening I wonder what the big new thing will be. In 2 it was the awesome grav gun, right? And the cool physics. We need something truly new and great in this genre.
But breh, I've been waiting for this for forever, I'm into my 40s now, I've given up.

I'm sure people will mod something. It will absolutely not be a VR game though lol. And Valve wouldn't release it with a "VR" mode tacked on without the game being fully designed around it. Which this won't be.
I recently played Alyx and it was fun but I'd be much more excited for a proper HL3, mouse and keyboard game personally. Thankfully Valve realise this and have also found lots of new things to bring to a "conventional" FPS (non VR).

I dunno man, seem to me like you are making a lot of assumptions out of nowhere.
They are working on a new VR set, so I can see HL3 being either VR or at least being playable in both VR and flat modes.

After playing Half Life Alyx like... 4 times now? I would be disappointed that HL3 is not VR.
It'll be both. Almost certain. Deckard is coming and there's no way its just missing the train of HL3 if its there to board.
Half Life 2 proven that it can be done and its a really good proper 2D game that translates very well to VR too with community mods.

Do you really think Valve are going to hamstring themselves by not only making AAA true Half life 3 game for mkb, that they will also try and tack on VR to it? I don't know I don't buy it. A fan can mod it like HL2.
Valve are not a big studio, HL3 is ambitious already. They will continue Alyx's story in VR with another title maybe? But there is enough leaks about what HL3 contains and enough hires of AAA devs who DON'T specialise in VR. To make me very very confident that when HL3 drops, it will not be a VR title.
These aren't really assumptions btw. People like Gabefollower are legit with their sources and have been correct time and time again. HL3's innovation will be taking open world games to the next level, in terms of dynamic environments/weather and particularly NPC interactions (which I think is the obvious next innovation for single player games). I think it originally started out as a VR project but that was changed a long time ago.
That's not to say valve won't just scrap the entire thing still. But the hires they have made are very promising.

I don't know. But my guess is, if they are making a new VR device, they would like to move as much units as possible and what better way to do so that making their long awaited game work on it.
I'm not saying it should be only VR, my guess is an hybrid that allows the user to play the game how he pleases. Might be more of wishful thinking than anything else (loved Alyx) but I think it makes sense.
Have you beated the game? I don't want to spoil it but Half-Life 3 should happen right after Half-Life Alyx's ending.
You have to forgive me because I didn't follow those leaks. Do you think the game seems way to ambitious to run on VR devices?
Maybe with the current tech, dunno, but with Deckard and the new RTX cards on the horizon, it might be doable.

Don't get me wrong it makes sense if valve want to push VR hard to make it a VR first title. But I just don't think that is their strategy. Also I think all the best parts of Alyx, are the parts specific for VR (Puzzles interactions) - so I feel like trying to make a game that does both would make both experiences worse...which really doesn't seem to be valves philosophy.
Yes - I have a feeling we won't see her at all in HL3, with her story maybe continuing as VR titles.
I think it's going to be big open environments, lots of NPCs, large scale combat situations. If you look at what they were experimenting with the awesome Episode 2 finale, I think more like that. Also none of the leaks suggest the game in its current form is built for VR in anyway.
If you look at the scale of Alyx...I just don't see how you can make a game that pushes the boundries of what convention non VR games, while making it possible in VR (Without it just being a hacky mod tacked on).
I'd highly recommend watching gabefollowers HL3/HLX vids if you are curious. I'm doing a disservice really with my posts.
