Hmmm.. that would make an interesting chart.. the top 10 best selling things ever. Consoles, games, peripherals, anything that's sold in the games industry. You think it would be dominated by extra controllers?

No, if they have any more, they should send them to North America... grabbing #1 in the US as soon as possible will go along way to locking up third party support.

Well 65K a week in Japan for Wii is still greater than what PS3 was achieving weekly Worldwide in June and part of July.:lol

I think it is a given that MP8 will reach 1 Million, and became the best selling MP game ever. Will it reach 2 Million ? I doubt it. 1.5 Million is possible, IMO.

considering it's already surpassed half a million sales and considering it will sell well during winter holidays, 1,5mln might be reached :)

Probably japanese people have to wait one year without Mario Party to let it sell good (see MP4 and MP8) :lol

MP8 selling well is kind of bleh, it's a bit like Madden selling well. It's not an outright bad game but I scratch my head and wonder why people continue to buy the same damn game.

agreed... with everyone who said a statement like this. I'm kind of dissapointed it's selling so well, the game was terrible, so much potential with the wii.

It tells that... 3.4 million consoles sales in a year without any bumps at all would be pretty good? PS2's best year in Japan was a little over 3.7 million, which if completely flat throughout a year would work to about 72K each week.

Speaking of which, I wondered how Wii was doing this year compared to PS2's best year, 2002. Doing slightly worse, but not by a large amount. Wii 2007 has a chance to best it if the supply is there.

Here's how the comparison looks weekly. PS2 2002 is soon to hit a bit of a dip where it goes under 60K for a full quarter, including a few weeks under 40K, so Wii has chance to make up ground before the big big weeks hit.

It's a multiplayer Nintendo game that uses the Wiimote. We have 2 of those over 1 Million already.

I forgot that 2002 is the best year for PS2. And you are right, starting from Sep 15, 2002, there is a 11 consecutive weeks of sub-50K PS2 sales. And in Dec, there is only 120K/week average sales. I believe it is highly probable that Wii 2007 will beat PS2 2002.

Media Create has GameCube ~150K higher than Famitsu does, so taking the current Media Create total and subtracting Famitsu from July 2004 is bound to mess up numbers a little bit. Checking now, from early July 2004 to when they stopped tracking the numbers earlier this year, Famitsu had about 660K GameCubes sold. Due to that difference in LTD, my Media Create Wii in terms of Famitsu GameCube is a bit messy.


MC GameCube LTD - MC Wii at week 37: 828K

Fam GameCube LTD - Fam Wii at week 35: 848K, a few K higher if we imagined they'd continued to report a few hundred sold each week since March.

If we assumed Wii continued on at about 65K each week, Media Create would say Wii passes GameCube at week 50 and Famitsu would say Wii passes GameCube at week 48 or 49. Though, thanks to Media Create numbers appearing a week earlier than Famitsu's, we might see them happen at the same time. :)
