Hmmm.. that would make an interesting chart.. the top 10 best selling things ever. Consoles, games, peripherals, anything that's sold in the games industry. You think it would be dominated by extra controllers?mclem said:Just looking at this, I had a sudden scary realisation:

No, if they have any more, they should send them to North America... grabbing #1 in the US as soon as possible will go along way to locking up third party support.Lobster said:Wow. Is it me or are Japan Wii shipments stuck on 65k? It should easily hover around 90k with the right shipments..Nintendos loss I guess..

Lets see, historically PS2 sales in August is :
2002 :
69,100
75,000
90,400
63,500
Average : 74K. Only 15% higher than Wii's 65K
2003 :
11,900
23,822
26,966
15,200
35,600
Average : 22.7K. Much lower than 65K
2004 :
66,887
38,593
47,263
32,291
31,173
Average : 43K. Significantly lower than 65K
2005 :
34,057
37,041
33,292
27,161
Average : 32K. Only 50% of 65K
Anyone have 2000 and 2001 figure ? I don't have it, so I could not analyze it.

considering it's already surpassed half a million sales and considering it will sell well during winter holidays, 1,5mln might be reachedapujanata said:I think it is a given that MP8 will reach 1 Million, and became the best selling MP game ever. msdstc said:agreed... with everyone who said a statement like this. I'm kind of dissapointed it's selling so well, the game was terrible, so much potential with the wii.
It tells that... 3.4 million consoles sales in a year without any bumps at all would be pretty good? PS2's best year in Japan was a little over 3.7 million, which if completely flat throughout a year would work to about 72K each week.spwolf said:tells a lot when ppl are happy with 65k Wii sales in Japan

Yep, on the other hand 20k a week is awesomely good. spwolf is just rad like that.Cruceh said:Wait, is 65k a week a bad thing?

Speaking of which, I wondered how Wii was doing this year compared to PS2's best year, 2002. Doing slightly worse, but not by a large amount. Wii 2007 has a chance to best it if the supply is there.
Here's how the comparison looks weekly. PS2 2002 is soon to hit a bit of a dip where it goes under 60K for a full quarter, including a few weeks under 40K, so Wii has chance to make up ground before the big big weeks hit.
I honestly think that 20K a week for PS3 is good (not awesomely good, just good). "Lowered expectation" FTL.Phife Dawg said:Yep, on the other hand 20k a week is awesomely good. spwolf is just rad like that.
Media Create has GameCube ~150K higher than Famitsu does, so taking the current Media Create total and subtracting Famitsu from July 2004 is bound to mess up numbers a little bit. Checking now, from early July 2004 to when they stopped tracking the numbers earlier this year, Famitsu had about 660K GameCubes sold. Due to that difference in LTD, my Media Create Wii in terms of Famitsu GameCube is a bit messy.Clever Pun said:another fun way to look at it is, according to JoshuaJSlone, the Wii is where the GC was at on July 9, 2004. So in over 3 years the GC only sold 700,000 units - an amount that, at this weeks rate, the Wii can do in 10.75 weeks :lol
