He also said 1,5m for MH3.

Edit: I try to understand how exactly he believes 2010 this will be PSP's best year (hardware side) knowing it must sell 1,8 million units the remaining 12 weeks in order to beat 2008.

He's talking fiscal year, so there are still 26(?) weeks left. =P But, you're right, as far as hardware sales go, PSP won't probably beat 2007/2008. Maybe he meant software or overall revenue/market share.

There are some interesting graphs on the Famitsu article, though: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201010/09034590.html

The resolution sucks but Mario Galaxy is at 995.283, up from 977.953 through March 31. Galaxy 2 helped it a lot. Million seller for Famitsu too before the year ends.

If you read the original article it's a bit more clear: (This is a paraphrase of what he said)

"the situation now is where third parties can't succeed on the DS and WII, However psp3 and X-box 360 development is expensive. So software makers are choosing to develop for psp, this is why we are seeing such a full slate of titles this year that could lead to psp's best year yet. "

Then he lists all the major titles coming out this year,

Also he quotes the release of peace walker and Monster hunter village as being part of the ever growing favorable condition of the psp.

I read the article afterwards. Saying this doesn't give him credit.

That seems like a really low debut for Kingdom Hearts.
Was that to be expected since it's just a remake? Or did it really bomb?

I wouldn't say Re:Coded "bombed", but so far the debut definitely underperformed. This was expected though, because retailers were already hinting that the game wasn't getting much traction in pre-orders, and it didn't seem like there was a ton of interest as normal.

It should be noted that this is a remake of the cellphone game, which most KH fans in Japan would have already played if they cared about it back when it was released over a year ago. The DS remake was created mainly for the western audience who were unable to play the mobile version.

The marketing for this in Japan was also a lot lower than usual for a KH game, and it was announced at E3 in a very quiet manner, and released in Japan just a few months after that.

Let's hope the rumored shipment information wasn't true then because it was 250k iirc

I don't think Re:Coded will have a lot of trouble eventually selling 200-250k. I think the shipment is true, and it probably won't ever receive a second one, but like I said, this was a much smaller scale release in Japan.

It is a spin-off. It is a remake. It is also the third Kingdom Hearts game released in the past fifteen months, with another new installment already announced and a Final Mix version to be released soon.

Macross Frontier, on the other hand, best first week ever?

Macross Frontier shows that if you bundle a demo or a throwaway interactive experience into a blu-ray movie which would have sold pretty well on its own, you can increase the sales even more. It also indicates that the otaku fanbase in Japan are well informed enough that it doesn't matter whether you sell the movie in video stores or game stores - they'll know where to buy it.

Also, interesting note:

RDR PS3+360 = 96k
Re:Coded = 95k

Nomura suicide?

Well, I said that because all of the KH games released after the first one have sold >55% of the LTD sales in the first week.

39 % drop week over week for Pokémon.

Drop rates so far :

Week 1 : 68 %
Week 2 : 55 %
Week 3 : 39 %

I wonder how it compares to previous iterations of the franchise.

Basically this. No hardware bundle, no BbS-like hype, nothing. Just a regular release for a reasonably big series.
