Good Vita numbers compared to what they've been, but I'm not going to celebrate yet. Hopefully this is the turning point for the system.

They would need a game like this at least every 1-2 months to have a system that was actually stable.

So Vita is more of a viable platform for Miku than 3DS? At what point of 3DS's life was Project Mirai released?

Also shock! Software moves hardware! Nintendo and Sony should really learn from the botched up launches of 3DS and Vita.

Guys, don't ruin the fun. The fun thing of MC threads is to see how hard can the PSV bottom out. :p

For everyone saying they hope developers take note you realize software takes a long time to make. If developers havent started already this does nothing for them.
I dont know what to say about mario. The drops are low but the overall number is so low compared to expectations it just looks bad

It may very well be, but it's still conjecture, seeing this is a mainline Diva game, while the other was a spinoff. It was made a spinoff due to the capabilities of the 3DS (small screen size), so I suppose it is a more viable platform as it's the only one that can run it well.

I did say, Persona 4 showed its about the games. Get on the ball Sony!
Expect the Vita to get a boost for a few weeks and potentially find slightly higher 'base' than it did without Persona and then with Persona (there was a definite 2-4k increase).

Pokemon looking like its legs are giving way there.

EDIT: Oh and Vita isn't some great place for Miku, Sony need to show their supporting the system themselves to stop companies looking to just jump to the 3DS (or cancel projects as rumoured). Its a start but don't expect the promise of this franchise forever, Capcom jumped off Sony handhelds for the exact reason that they weren't willing to be the people supporting the system whilst Sony took in the hardware profits for doing no work whatsoever.

Wonder what the legs will be like, am thinking quite long.

Awesome increase for the Vita plus they got the first spot on the software chart :D
Take note Sony, software sells hardware.

Mirai is a chibi-miku spinoff with a few differences in term of gameplay. I don't think you can really draw a conclusions from its sale relative to Miku's viability on the 3DS.

There's a big Miku promo going on now here with FamilyMart too where they have a special "nikuman" (steamed bun) that is called "mikyumyan" or something like that, the otaku who order it don't like the name cause it sounds too cute and it's embarassing, I saw it on the news.

Miku fans have lots of money to spend on their hobbies, they're often older with jobs, I'd bet there's a fair amount of crossover actually between this one and the 3DS version as far as buyers go.

Mirai was in March. So not that long ago.

Project Mirai was earlier this year (March IIRC). Different visuals style, but not sure if that would count for lower sales. With the other Project Diva games being on PSP and PS3, it could be a Sony thing.

Unless your game is a really large title, usually target platform matters more than installed base.

For an extreme example, compare Tales mainline on the DS and PS3.

Future stars is a spinoff that did pretty well for itself but the writing on the wall is clear. Tall super thin creepy otaku bait>>>>>Super Deformed creepy otaku bait.

Was it February or March? I believe it was the chibi art style that put people off. PSP/Vita sexy hardware + long sexy Miku legs are simply just a better sales combination than squat ugly 3DS hardware + short midget Miku.

Sadly sales will just go down until mid December, as this is pretty much the biggest Vita title for the rest of the year, unless FFXHD is released. I predict around 20k next week, 15k the following, then it's a race to less than 10k like usual.

I feel that it's going to follow the path of PS3 in Japan. Doing horribly compared to its predecessor but still getting decent hw and sw sales in the end.

Difference is, Japan is more of a handheld market [unless their is a change when next gen console arrives] So it can do better then PS3 if they release Steady amount of games and focus on it.

Great, simply great performance for Vita HW, and very good debut for the three new entries Miku, Soul Hacker and Kagura! 3DS still solid as leader of the market

These games won't bump the Vita hardware much. They don't sell nearly as well as Miku, not even close.

And this bump won't last long, unfortunately.
Sure, not a huge bump. But I don't know Japanese game releases for the upcoming months, aside from those Legend of Heroes and Atelier remake/porting coming out in november.

No, we don't know that. Project Mirai is a spinoff.

The 3DS game is not toally comparable to the rest, but people definitely don't seem to like the Nendoroid version as much.

Oh right, thanks for clearing that up guys. So Mirai is a spin-off but it come about a year later with the install base being much bigger for the 3DS. Having said that this Miku game will be coming to PS3 in about six months. So, all in all, this tells us nothing :D

Unless your game is a really large title, usually target platform matters more than installed base.

So, going by that, would you say Miku fans have a preference for Sony platforms (like Tales fans seems to have swallowed up Xillia on PS3)?

I would say they have a preference to platforms more focused on an audiovisual experience given the nature of the games.

That just usually happens to be Sony.
