Yeah, as sensationalistic as this may sound now, my prediction of P5 breaking 1 million before FFXV isn't some stretch anymore.
It kinda is unless I'm missing something.

PS4-sama has arrived! You caught me before my stealth edit. ;p If the demo gives a boost, I'd expect it to be on Vita.

It's not about that trailer, it's simply about how much demand Atlus has generated as the months go by. Even looking at how they release content in front of thousands of fans for a music concert is just strange to think about. They're on fire right now.

Exhaustive list of PS3 games that reached over 1 million copies, even when you combine all versions and re-releases (ultimate hits, gold edition, budget price, etc):
1.) Final Fantasy XIII - 1,965,465
2.) Resident Evil 5 - 1,026,495
Is that really it? ;.;
You mean like...launch aligned?
Yep: https://sites.google.com/site/japanltdrank/show?platform=PS3
Resident Evil wouldn't have made it without "Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition / Resident Evil: Revival Selection Twin Pack" even.
I'd like to point out those two games were released in 2009 - almost five years ago - when the console industry was notably healthier.

Cut through the cynicism, and I think what's presented is actually a very valid point. But Sir Nirolak! Clearly you haven't seen the new charts! Across both PS3 and PS4, GTA5 has sold over a million in Japan too! That's a really recent game! Persona 5 could be just as popular. Why not?!

If we're talking about Japan-only, I really don't see Persona 5 reaching a million combined.
Honestly, the only RPGs I see reaching a million or more are the next mainline Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.
Grand Theft Auto was almost always bigger than Persona ever was.Oh, is that right?
...Heh, then why not? I guess the answer would be that GTA5 is just that much bigger, even in Japan.
Self avatar quote.

Consoles aren't healthy but this just seems like a perfect storm attuned to the Japanese audience in particular.
No, P5 won't sell a million in Japan. Hell, I doubt it will sell a million WW.Cut through the cynicism, and I think what's presented is actually a very valid point.

It's at around 840k WW, and I would believe that whoever wanted to play the game got the game.WW LTD? Of course it will. This is just vastly underestimating Persona 5's significance. Persona 4 Golden is almost at 1 million worldwide.

Which is a known quality. Can't say the same about P5.Yes...? We're talking about a Vita exclusive remake to a game that was less than 4 years old at the time. And you're saying that the first mainline release in the franchise since 7 years via Persona 5, for the PS3 and PS4, will perform about as well worldwide as P4G did worldwide. Am I really the only one who thinks that's ridiculous?
Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors (GBC) - 68,049

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (PSV) - 42,599
Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 (3DS) - 184,559
The Ultimate Mission 3DS games buck the overall franchise trend, but I'm not sure if the kids buying Heroes would buy a non-Heroes game. I guess Bandai Namco feels the same way. Shame too, since Ultimate Butouden and Attack of the Saiyans are the best Dragon Ball games in a very long time. Now Bandai Namco seems focused on phone games that continually flop.
i secretly hope arc system works is developing the interim game between xenoverse and xenoverse's sequel since i can't see xenoverse 2 in 2016, but it's probably the spike or artdink again
woah looks like Japan is pretty hungry for a Dragon Ball game.
Probably thanks to the new movie hype, too.
No, it really isn't, for a bunch of reasons. Lol.
But didn't you see how huge the game is on GAF? The trailer thread is already 50 pages long, bigger than the last FFXV, Xenoblade and COD threads combined, the hype is real, the game will sell 1 million first week.

I changed my expectations based on how badly PSV is performing this year, both hw- and sw-wise.
I know "international market and blabla" but those DB sales on Nintendo hardware are too good to be ignored. The best-selling DB games of the past years have all been on DS and 3DS.
A high sell-through during the first day might also mean that the shipment was little; and given previous DB numbers, this is probably the case.
Then why say the following statement lol.
Obviously Western sales are bigger than Japanese sales. NB shipped 500k+ in just two months in the West for Battle of Z.

Of course P5 will be a million seller worldwide. Hell, even Catherine shipped something like 200k in the States, and sold 250k in Japan.
Sales of DS / 3DS were also pretty good, also given how low-budget were the projects. Also, 3DS anime tie-ins might have a market in the West as well, given the userbase.
In the West? With big franchises like DBZ and Naruto Western sales are far bigger and hence more important. The anime community is known to be there on platforms like PS360 so its a pretty safe decision.

Why don't they follow the One Piece Unlimited Red strategy then? It seemed to work out fine for them and people seem to think it looks good graphically despite being a 3DS game at heart.
JP sales of DS / 3DS DB games were pretty good; in fact, the best-selling DB games in Japan are on those platforms. Given the audience of 3DS in the West, Bandai Namco might invest a bit more in developing games that might appeal overseas. 3DS has a lot of kids, and kids buy a lot of anime games. OP sold well on 3DS in Europe, for example.
TBF if you compare the threads sizes after the first major pieces of news you'd likely find the thread sizes much more comparable. Those games have been known about for years now so yes the discussion has died down.
Also it obviously won't be reaching a million first week if your not joking if it releases in Japan first. I doubt it'll be reaching a million even in Japan, the only games that have reached that number on the PS3 were from massive million seller franchises. Persona certainly ain't that.
