Thinking about the different VR systems. Only PSVR2 is going to give you those glorious rich dark colours in those gloomy corridors.

It's probably the best bet. Especially in a darker game. I just hate the tradeoff sometimes because quest 3 is just so damn crisp if the pc is decent enough to push it.

This may be has already been answered, but the Meta version is cross-buy with the Meta PC version and Quest
I did not know that, That gives me a bit of incentive to buy the Meta version. I only have 1 game on my PC Meta and that was the first Asguards Wrath that was included with my Quest 3.
 
I'm also curious how the game will look on standalone with Quest optimizer and being able to take my library of VR games with me anywhere. Batman really shocked me increasing the resolution.
I need to reinstall QGO as I think it dissapeared from my library. It was starkly sharper and better

A visual comparison of Metro Awakening: Quest 3 vs. PSVR 2​

To my surprise, the two versions are not worlds apart visually. If you play on Quest 3, you will have just as much fun with the game and its dark world.

The 3D models and the character seemed almost identical to me, but Playstation VR 2 has the edge in other visual aspects: This version offers detailed and higher resolution textures, global lighting with realistic real-time shadows and atmospheric lighting and post-processing effects. The OLED displays provide authentic contrast and brighter colors.

The Quest 3's lenses and LCDs, on the other hand, shine with a much clearer and sharper image. In comparison, the PSVR 2 version looks as if an overly strong blur filter has been applied. The Mura effect is also noticeable in Metro Awakening. Since I personally don't mind it, I was able to overlook it, but in the end it depends on your individual sensitivities.

My tests showed that the Quest version of Metro Awakening that I played is primarily optimized for Quest 2, and the resolution is far below what would be technically possible with Quest 3. Using Quest Optimizer, I was able to increase the resolution by 50 percent without any significant loss in performance. The higher resolution reduces the aliasing and makes the image clearer and smoother. The fact that you can play a game of this graphical quality on a standalone VR headset is impressive.


Overall, Metro Awakening runs smoother and more stable on Playstation VR 2 than on Quest 3, which suffers from occasional FPS drops. The Quest version uses a rendering technique called Application Spacewarp, which means that the game basically runs at 36 fps and reprojects frames to get to a framerate of 72 fps. You can clearly see some artifacts caused by this, but I didn't find it game-breaking. We don't know what frame rate the PSVR 2 version is running at and whether it's using reprojection, but I didn't notice any artifacts in this version.



If you own both systems, my impressions should help you with your purchase decision. Rest assured that Quest 3 players will also enjoy the graphics and can get even more out of the game visually with the Quest Games Optimizer. Hopefully, Vertigo Games will release an update for Quest 3 that takes advantage of the system's unused horsepower.




They didn't notice artifacts in the psvr2 version and it looks great with the blacks. Still, I'm pretty damn shocked Quest comes away with its own advantage in clarity. Thats pretty amazing for a standalone. It would be like a Switch port running at higher resolution than a ps4 game lol

I know it can take a bit of effort to dial in the sweet spot on the PSVR2 but when you do I don’t notice a huge difference in resolution relative to Quest 3 when playing games. Yes it’s obvious when web browsing etc…

I love my Quest 3 but for dark games I can’t go back when I can play the same game on PSVR2.

Do you play pcvr? That's where I notice it most or quest optimizer. Running default quest 3 can't really push the lenses.

Gonna be picking this up for the Index too...I believe that they already showed footage of the PC version running, it's basically the PSVR2 version with a couple of settings cranked up. I think the Quest 3 version loses a bunch of lighting compared to the other two.

But you can also using the Quest 3 for PCVR and on the go gaming without.

Yes the Quest 3 has a much bigger sweet spot but when you dial in the PSVR2 I find it just as sharp in games.

Your Quest 3 is definitely sharper in games when pushed. The resolution is higher and you get more edge to edge clarity with pancake lenses. Its just the nature of fresnals at lower resolution. The advantage is blacks, colors, comfort(for me) and controllers, but there have been tons of comparisons by respected PCVR users.

Just played the past the intro, so far so great, really looking forward to getting a proper run over the weekend, graphics look great my only complaint is I'm again playing as a 5ft tall midget FFS, everyone is taller than me and I can't for the life of me increase the height, why the fuck do these games not come with a height slider

Im playing on pc wirh psvr2 now but having weird issues, not sure if performance, but a lot of jiytering in movement. Genuienly making me sick. I already lowered res etc though im.playi g on 4070/5800x3D

Running at ultra settings PCVR version, and the graphics are pretty fucking shoddy. Also, an incredibly dull first hour of gameplay. Don't do a fucking credits sequence where you just stand around in a VR game! The interactivity is pretty poor too in terms of the things you can interact with.

This feels like a quick, badly made cash grab. Avoid.

The actual game starts after that first hour, then it becomes good. Sure you can't interact with everything like in Alyx (no other game does that as well), but the VR mechanics themselves are where the meat is: Not just the shooting, but the game keeps you quite busy juggling your inventory, which is split in two backpacks (one for weapons, one for tools):

-You have a flashlight which you have to be constantly charging by pulling a portable generator from your left backpack, spin the generator to charge the battery, or pull two cables and connect them to power sources to charge them.

-You have a gas mask for the radiation areas, not only do you have to put it to your face, you also have to find miniature oxygen tanks which you insert in the mouthpiece of the gasmask, and you have to monitor how much time you have left with your wristwatch. When it runs out, you remove the tank and insert another to keep going.

-You also have hand grenades, medicine bottles which you insert into a gun-like syringe, and a lighter to burn web-infested doorways. Spiders can also crawl to your hands, making inventory inaccessible until you grab them and crush them with your other hand. Changing heavy weapons require you to grab your other backpack and choose between them.
