The Wii situation for December is probably going to be ugly too.If 360 is "disappointing" I wonder what PS3 is then.

Plucky.
I don't believe these NPD numbers. 360 had to have sold over 2million.
Something is wrong.
Jump to conclusions much? Either way 1.7 mil is not a bad number at all
Geez you're full of it.
Workers prep Global Foundries' newest semiconductor factory, "Fab 8" in Saratoga County, New York State. The fab comes on line for the first time with a maiden production run of microprocessors based on IBM's latest, 32nm, silicon-on-insulator chip technology. The chips will be used by manufacturers in networking, gaming and graphics.
Glad to see MK7 and Land up there. It's a sign that Nintendo franchises are loved by video gamers and by themselves are true system sellers.

With a strong holiday sales period finishing a banner year, Microsofts Xbox 360 ended 2011 as the best-selling current-generation console in the U.S., outselling the second place console by more than 2.7 million units. This week at CES Microsoft showed many of the ways Xbox 360 and Kinect will continue with strong momentum in 2012, including new Xbox LIVE content partners such as News Corp. Xbox 360 owners are excited about this new, fun, and interactive way to enjoy their favorite content:
· The hours of video consumed globally on Xbox LIVE increased 140 percent from 2010 to 2011.*

Beyond gaming, Microsoft will soon sell a Kinect for Windows sensor designed for commercial applications, bringing the magic of Kinect to whole new audiences including education, manufacturing and healthcare. Looking forward to an exciting 2012, we expect new audiences for Kinect, new experience for Xbox LIVE and a new installment in the world-class Halo and Fable franchises to help Xbox 360 have yet another stellar year.

This is what happens when innovation stops. 2011 was the most boring year for gaming I can remember. Everything was pretty much sequels, more of the same or HD remakes. Hopefully the Wii U can freshen up the industry again and clear out the cobwebs, seeing as it doesn't look like we'll be getting a new Xbox or Playstation anytime soon.
It is likely that they would have said "more than 1.8 million" (or higher depending on what the number is) if it was higher. So why is everyone saying X360 "only" sold 1.7M?!? That tweet said it sold more than 1.7M, so it could be > 2.0M or I'm missing something here?
I would be stupid to sell 2 millions and tell the people greater than 1.7. They could have told greater than 1 million or 1.5 or 0.5.So why is everyone saying X360 "only" sold 1.7M?!? That tweet said it sold more than 1.7M, so it could be > 2.0M or I'm missing something here?

It's kinda worrying that it has been narrowed to Mario and Pokemon :/ Zelda clearly doesn't garner mass excitement anymore.

Would take a 2006 level of over shipping or sales around the world are much higher than last year. Something isn't adding up here.
If true, 360 successor development will be getting fast tracked.

Would a Retro made Zelda even sell in Japan?Zelda ain't doing so well in Europe and Japan either. Time for Retro to save the series.
More than 1.7 million means anywhere from 1.7 to 1.8 million.

Hardware
Nintendo DS - 2.5 Million (-24%)
Wii - 2.36 Million (-38%)
Xbox 360 - 1.86 Million (+42%, best ever sales by 420k units)
PS3 - 1.21 Million (-11%)
46% share for 360 so the Wii and PS3 are less than 2 million combined?

Again, why just 360? Very odd around here...

Top ten is pretty lame, shows the US buyers have game taste like they do in pop music and fast food. Lowest common denominator stuff.
