RTTP: Sekiro - Finally time to git gud at this

For some reason, From Software games kind of scare me with their difficulty.

They are like old school D&D games.

What time is it?

The good and bad thing about the Souls games is that they tend to recycle their design tropes in their games. Those surprise moments that could equally delight and frustrate you in your first Souls game will be easy to identify in the next. "Oh, I bet there is a trap here." Yup. "Oh, I bet there is an enemy around this corner here." Yup. Oh, I bet there is an ambush here." Yup. And on and on and on.

I'm just bad at parrying in general no matter the game. I want to love Sekiro as it reminds me of Tenchu, which I adore, but even the first mini-boss just hands it to me. I've only ever gotten a few bosses in.

I just spent a lot of time in Korean arcades in the 90s with Street Fighter 2 and Samurai Shodown 2. I think the last two fighting games I really loved was Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast because a buddy and I played it endlessly and VF4/5 because of the godlike training modes.
My skill issues with fighting games comes from the fact I have hard time remembering combos and during the fight I will be too focus on trying pull off those combos instead of actual fight itself.

It depends, the 1 off games can subvert it slightly, The ones with Souls in the title (and Elden Ring is DS4 in all but name) all play simialt enough where you can predict alot

Case in point, it took me nearly 4 hours of playtime to actually die in DS3 on release as I was that used to DS2 and Bloodborne, it wasn't until the Abyss Watchers that I was actually challenged, and I am not good at these games

Recently came back to this and found it surprisingly easy. I had gotten burnt out after finally beating Lady Butterfly years ago. Restarted from the beginning, and this time I never really hit a wall.

Funny how Sekiro actively punishes you for playing it like a souls game.

Its the same with Bloodborne in that sense

Six years later, I fucking did it. Fourth try too.

Just some XP farming and the plat is mine. What a game.

It’s not a Souls game - you have to close the distance quick and then there is a specific response for every enemy action. It is then easy as long as you pick the right option. It’s been said before in this thread but weirdly you don’t really learn to play the game until after the final boss fight - that hammers it home - as you can barely afford to make any mistakes.

In Souls games you can run about, dodge, roll - all sorts and can take down bosses with plenty of errors as long as you manage to heal here and there.

Loved Sekiro. Did three runs back to back and grabbed the platinum and I still wanted more. It was executed perfectly and the gameplay felt fresh and unique. One of the GOATs of last gen.

Go for the Shura ending and make sure you do the father owl boss too

And then shura gauntlet. Then you can rest and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe

Basically you can just spam l1
Not really. Mistimed parries build up your own posture meter and if it gets broken you get wrecked. It pays to learn different enemy timings. This is especially true with the Sekiro: Resurrection overhaul that's basically Sekiro hard/very hard mode with new enemy encounters.

Shura ending was cool and all, but I really enjoyed the Purification and Dragon's Return endings more.

Also each costume from the gauntlets is worth getting. Not just the Shura costume.

Going for the plat, got 3 endings. Doing NG+ right now to clean up.
It'll take closer to 4 runs to get the plat due to the skills trophy, so take your time and have fun with it. Experiment with prosthetics and abilities

Also do the anayama peddler and kotoro quest ASAP to buy unlimited akos

Wants protagonists to make his peepee soft
I thought I would never do it but I was wrong. After many years I managed to git gut and finished Sekiro, beating Father, Demon of Hatred and Sword Saint.

Owl (Father) was one of the most intense moments I ever had while gaming, you just can't make mistakes, game forces you to git gud.

Sword Saint was one of the easier fights, I think it took me like 3 or 4 tries, after getting my shit pushed in by Owl for days.

No it doesn’t. You don’t even have to finish the second run. You can easily just farm the XP you need.

I mean sure, if you literally just rest at the same bonfire and kill the same enemies for a few hours. That sounds awful. It's a known grind in the community at this point and takes multiple playthroughs unless you grind the most boring way. If you have to go for the other endings, just play the game normally lol. You get more points at higher NG+ anyway.

I would rather grind for 4-5 hours than beat the whole game again four times. Already have the endings. There are countless XP farms on youtube to knock it out relatively quick. I "only" need 12 skills and I've only just started NG+.

Okay I’m having way more trouble with the final boss(es) for the “bad” ending than I ever did with the other. How is this one not the famously hard final boss I’ve never even seen people bring it up!
