The game made only $57 million in two years on PS5. And flopped big time on PC. Only 6k concurrent players iirc.

I liked the game, paid full price for it and will buy the sequel day one but its clear the market doesnt want more rougelikes.

And?

They're not a massive AAA publisher. Small team, small investment. Great gameplay has always been their pedigree.

Sony clearly is invested since this one is announced and highlighted in their show.

It was also made by a studio of (at the time) less than 100 employees, and while Helsinki can't compete with Eastern Europe/Asia when it comes to cheap labor, it's certainly a cheaper location than say California.

Dont get mad at me when this game flops as well and Sony shuts down the studio.

The team is clearly talented. its sony;s job to give them the budget and resources to apply their gameplay expertise to a genre people actually want to play.

But rogue-likes are a popular genre after all. The fact that Sony is letting them take another crack at it despite the middling sales means they see potential here. They also like to maintain some studios that are critical darlings, sales notwithstanding. The game is literally being marketed as "come back stronger", which was the core of everyone's issue with Returnal. Might be a risk worth taking.

Why would I be mad at you?

Sony seems content with Housemarque being Housemarque.

Good points, yeah.

I guess people really are unhappy with the game, despite no gameplay being shown...
It has 695 dislikes already.

Smart move to go with a male lead and not an older woman this time.

Gameplay loop for returnal was fun but it needs to be fleshed out more. I hope they offer players a hades like bitch made mode.

This should be a good game.

The game obviously did well enough and was a fun time so much that playstation bought the studio. Playstation also needs variety in it's portfolio. This and astro bot are perfect. Saros will also benefit from a bigger install base this time around.

Considering he's a bruiser i hope he's a bit heavier to play with bigger, cooler weapons. Would make for a good change-up from Returnal, not saying they should remove the traversal aspect tho - i doubt they will with it still being a bullet hell game

Returnal is incredible. I just started playing a few days ago. Unbelievable how good it feels to play. I don't even like roguelikes and procedural generated levels, but damn everything is so well done. Alongside Helldivers 2, Returnal is the best Sony game this generation. Really cool seeing indie developers make the AAA leap.

And Housemarque having 5 years to develop Saros is crazy. Anybody know what engine they are using? Returnal used UE4. I'm a little worried if they are indeed using UE5, given the optimization issues, but I'm sure it would look incredible. The trailer is pre-rendered, sadly, so nothing to gleam from that

I mean, Sony called it a "mega hit" and greenlit a sequel but ok....

People weren't frustrated about the genre; roguelikes are quite popular. They were complaining about the games difficulty and progression.

N nial good to have confirmation that this is this, which leaked a few years back:

Third-person action, male lead, an eclipse in the background, weird alien race, European dev... same backpack even!
Not so sure about that, Dusk Golem that one day told one user that the project was actually going by the codename of 'Draconis', not being aware that it was the cancelled game by Deviation Games.
The part of it coming from an European studio was probably the result of confusion due to it being a XDEV project, not realizing that it was actually from XDEV *America*.
