Skull & Bones | Review Thread

Not gonna lie, I was expecting something rough, but still somewhat resembling what they got right in AC Black Flag. Yet, apparently they've managed to release something worse 11 years later. Oh well...

The worse is that they studio decided to develop this half Baked Game. Instead of División 3 , a Game that would give UBI tons of money for years.

AAAA failure incoming.

This clickbait “tech site” that keeps showing up on my Facebook feed had a pretty good quip:

“Most Review Scores Are Equal To AAAA (4/10) 😐

ShillUp's review is hilarious too.

"Yeah here's reason X, Y and Z on why this game is shit. But overall if you ignore those points it's not that bad. Here are another 12 reasons why this game is shit. But I had fun in my 20 hours of playtime. O by the way, this and that mechanic are dogshit and don't work. But if you ignore that, the game is kinda fun. There's visual glitches, audio bugs, UI bugs, it's an absolute disaster of a game. But it's kinda fun"

Come on bruh.

Apparently no boarding combat or it was a glitch?

Its known since forever. People complained about no boarding and what they did? They added a minigame so you now need to "aim" the boarding hooks. That was their solution lol. It was in the IGN video and the dev sounded so proud that they listened to fan feedback

Ill be honest..I like it….but i wanted the ship combat.

The money it cost didnt matter to me as mich but I understand completely why this is trash for it being $70.

They already have a free trial going out.

The game is awful. I can't believe how bad it is. It absolutely feels like playing a mobile game, it really has a mobile game design and gameplay.
Everything about it is worse than in Black Flag. The sailing is worse, the visuals are worse, there's no immersion because of how everything works in such mobile style game mechanics, the combats are terrible, basically no on foot gameplay, there's just nothing good about it, at all.

I have absolutely no idea how it took this many years to make this, especially when you had such a solid base like Black Flag as a reference. Even as a Free to play it wouldn't be worth playing, a few hours were already too much for me.

What are some actual good pirate games? I can think of Sea of Thieves, Sea Dogs/Caribbean Legend, AC Black Flag off of the top of my head.

We should put a poll in the thread. Would you rather get a copy of Skull and Bones or Suicide Squad Kill the Justice league.

If you think about it their stories are kind of similar in some ways.

Suicide Squad, but it’s like being offered a shit sandwich versus a mud sandwich.

Ubisoft are better prepared when they see the concurrent player drop weeks after release. It really , really feels like a doa game that nobody gonna want to invest time and money in.

In the first few minutes I had a woman captain barking orders and women mates commentary every few seconds screeching my ears off. No thanks Ubi.
What next? You’ll bitch at white crewmates taking orders from a black captain?

Guaranteed there was a lot more to this game that was designed… before being stripped out to offer as seasonal content. Same as with SSKTJL probably. Put out half a game now, so you can charge even more in a few weeks or months.

Fuck anyone who supports or makes this greed fuelled corporate shit.

This post makes me feel even better about buying the game…..might go buy some cosmetics now just because of it.

Wait, is it really true that your cannons can all fire from any angle? You don't have to carefully line up your broadsides?

I watched a few videos talking about how bad this is and got some laughs. Then I downloaded the trial just to see for myself and... I actually enjoy it? I don't see myself dropping $70 for this, but I'll bite at $40ish.

I agree, it is cool to hate it but in reality is not bad, still 70 is too much.

How does a dev have ACIV Black Flag as a blueprint but still restrict Skull & Bones to naval piracy/combat...SMH.
Cause it is a different game? I'd love a new black flag, but this is something different, just to be clear I'm not defending the game, I only played the open beta, but all this hate is just stupid (not yours, but the Internet hate)

They did a capital mistake with that pricing. They would at least keep it from DOA being around 30$. Would buy it for this amount but full price? Hell no.

I enjoy it too and ignore all internet hate, internet is just not fun anymore.

Agree, retail price was probably too much for everyone. But then again- I haven't been able to put it down, so i guess it was worth full price for me personally. UbiSoft isnt popular atm and neither is a game thats been delayed ages - but taking time to play has got me addicted unexpectedly. Its a decent/good game and reviews and coverage sort of reflect that - its not the train wreck everyone expected and with some actual good stuff in there. I suspect with the proper post launch support this game can get the public perception to change.

If No Man Sky and Cyberpunk can do it- and those were HYPED to hell, S&B has a chance. Dare i say this game is better than both at launch.

Thanks for the added details. How did you find the beta? Is it on par with black flag?

For me a huge part of black flag was the variety e.g. ship to ship, boarding, evading, escorting boats/people, stealth, treasure/ puzzle hunting etc. You could craft your own style of play within the pirate sandbox and the game really shined as a lite-rpg based around little menus and more action based.

Game is DoA with Sea of Thieves coming to PS5.

Maybe they can make a quick Switch port and dupe some kids there.
This may very well be an interesting litmus test of how the different communities "behave" e.g. Sea of Thieves has one of the most amazing caring and sharing and looting communities in rceent gaming years. I'm quite curious what happens SoT when PS player attack the Fort so to speak.

Hopefully a switch port is added too.

Reddit is salivating over the baby seal clubbing that's going to take place when the inexperienced PS players arrive.

Thats what happens when UBI focused on Singapore subsidies to make this studio lead a game. Historically, they are a support studio. What happened is there was a giant Singapore bag of cash waiting if the Singapore office lead development of a game, and UBI pretty much jammed a support studio with the responsibility to do it so they'd get a pay out.

Tip for all business leaders: Dont chase the money. Make sure you got the talent and resources set up first. If any of you want to learn about a disaster, watch the Netflix doc about the Delorean car. Guy was shady as hell, and purposely tried making the cars in Ireland despite zero locals skillset or experience building cars. But the Irish subsidy was too good to give up.

A friend gave me a code and after 3 hours I'm dumbfounded and borderline pissed off.

There are so many things wrong about this game.
I'm going to bed fuck it I'll give it another shot tomorrow 😄
