Suikoden I&II HD Remaster - Reviews Thread

Curious how this runs on the Switch. Think I need it to run great in portable mode with close to zero load times to bite the bullet for this.

Sure FF VII is viewed as the first real breakout RPG, but for many- it’s Suikoden.
FF7 is the RPG that pushed the genre into the mainstream, you had commercials running on MTV for christ's sake. It was the RPG that shoved the way for the rest. There is absolutely no comparison to be made.

But yeah, Suikoden was something quite special.

Bought it on PSN and expected it to unlock at 9pm PST like they always do, that's how it's worked for pretty much as long as digital download PSN games have been a thing. Midnight on the East coast, 9pm on the west coast. But it's not going to unlock until midnight. When did this bullshit change happen?

Never played the original and this collection is very tempting. I am currently on a JRPG mood, playing Chained Echoes in the wait of Clair Obscur : Expedition 33.

Not enough time for all the JRPG out there...

Just started an hour ago. I’m disappointed they didn’t add a quick save option. Also would’ve been nice to have auto-run so you don’t have to hold circle the whole time.

Otherwise it’s… Suikoden. Feels just like I remember it.

I'd love to make an OT for this, but I think it's safe to say that I lack the skills to make one on here.

Also

In order for the true ending for Suiko 1, make sure none of your characters die in the war battles, because they can if you mess up on rock/paper/scissors. If they do somehow, start over from the previous save.

OK so I see there’s an auto save but it never actually saves??? My Autosave file shows my last save was at 2 minutes of play time. WTF?

Also when you fast forward in battle, the the music fast forwards too LMAO

I really hope they patch some of this shit, seems pretty half baked.

it’s pretty amazing how long this got delayed when it doesn’t really seem like they’ve done a lot QOL wise

I played the 1st one on vita several years ago after loving it when it came out.

Yikes! Just like dq11 the combat was way too easy. I had it on autobattle and then got bored several hours later. Never even made it to the 1st big battle scene.

Heard that there is a hard option now. Anyone have experience with this? I'd like to play it again if the combat is actually balanced

Is there some way to transfer items from individual party members’ inventory to the “party items” section? If there is, I can’t figure it out.

Why is it, with Japanese games, it is never obvious how to quit the game?

I got annoyed and killed it with Alt-F4. That totally works.

Preloading on my Steam Deck as we speak. Amazon says Monday for my Switch copy. They love getting the games to me 3-4 days after launch regardless of when I preorder. I had it ordered since August. We have two Amazon warehouses around here ffs. I’m hoping to start this tonight but I also want to play Wilds.

Having a lot of fun. Brings back fond memories and seems to have aged better than some of the more recent remakes IMO.

Started happening about a year ago and is happening more and more ....very annoying trend!

Just manual save. Back in my day that's what we always did with these titles.
Man I’ve been playing JRPGs since Final Fantasy on NES. I remember how it was back in the day.

Having autosave but only when you enter a screen with a save point is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. It’s like they outsourced it to some devs who speak a different language and misunderstood the requirement.

User story as written by concept owner: “As a gamer, I want the game to autosave whenever I enter a new screen, so that I won’t lose progress if I have to quit the game before manually saving at a save point.”

Requirement by the time it reaches the programmer: “the game shall autosave when the user enters an area with a save point in it”

Huh. I digitally pre-ordered a few games in the last year, I could swear this is the first one that didn't unlock at 9PM on the night before the release. Hopefully it's only certain games. Silent Hill 2 definitely unlocked at 9PM, wasn't that long ago.

World building.

Town simulator.

108 characters with at least 80+ being party member options.

Great story filled with intrigue and an interesting world.

First game is overall "Good" second game is top 5 PS1 JRPGs.

EDIT: Also masterful sprite work.
Recruting new members and their sidequests were a game inside the game, i still remember the food contest...

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Was checking some comparisons and some of thew assets almost look AI generated, if they aren't.

Got gifted this by a friend for a late birthday gift! Nice surprise.

Rolled up Suikoden 1 on steam deck and it runs perfect. Looks fantastic. Sounds wonderful. New improvements, hard mode, opening cinematic, avatar pictures, etc are superb.

Konami on fire!!! I hope we get 3-5 collection someday too with major improvements to 4 lol.

Swamped with games now. Playing a little of Days Gone, Tunic, and Chrono Trigger. Now this is in the mix. Just completed all of Animal Well and got the platinum trophy which I haven’t 100%ed a game in maybe 20 years? Gaming is really good right now for me. Oh and I tried Everhood—- what a cool game.
