Team Asobi Says Astro Bot Pushed PS5 Processing Power "To Its Limits"

While Astro Bot might not have the same visual punch as other first-party PlayStation games like God of War Ragnarok or Horizon Forbidden West, it's a game that still manages to tap the PS5's maximum potential in terms of processing power.

Astro Bot's graphics are cartoonish, so some gamers might not notice the game's visual effects or the many items it can feature on the screen at once without sacrificing performance.

Speaking to Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, Senior Gameplay Programmer Takumi Yoshida discussed the game's development.

"We used the PS5's processing power to its very limit, and besides the many jewels on screen, what is also impressive is the depiction of water. The part where you get the sponge power-up and splash water around was really hard because the frame rate wasn't stable. We kept optimizing it right up until the very end," claims the developer (translated via Genki).

When asked about the intent of Team Asobi in including a large selection of bots in the game, Yoshida added, "I have felt the fun of fluttering a lot of characters since the demo, and this time I was able to realize it with the performance of PS5 and the PS 30th anniversary and I was able to use various characters, so I put a lot of them."

With all that physics and good frame rate and colorful, that really is an impressive showcase for ps5. To be honest its also a demonstration that you don't actually need those RT effects to make the game look impressive, but Im still curious too see what it will lool like with RT reflections, that is why I hope they add RT reflection update even just on the ps5 pro.

Pr talk at its cringiest.
Even if true you shut your mouth instead of feeding the trolls goddammit.
Doing this while Sony is in position to give the coup de grâce to xbox, with nintendo sitting in the cuck chair watching all, is counter productive.
 
It's the most next gen thing I've played since Cyberpunk, so at this point the evidence suggests that's true.

This generation has been uninspiring when it comes to innovative tech. Much of the time the extra graphical power has been used to make up for poor optimisation.
I was hoping this generation would use the extra GPU to enhance gameplay improvements over better fidelity. Neither has happened

Helldivers 2 would be my pick. While not graphically impressive, it could not exist on past generations without significant downgrades. The amount of shit going on screen is still astounding to me, especially when you consider its a multiplayer game and it runs 60fps on PS5. Returnal is another good example. Both superior to Astro Bot, imo, of pushing PS5 hardware

So that means we can finally stop with the "PS5 has not been pushed to the limit, no PS5 Pro needed" Nonsense for good?

Just let the game itself do the talking ffs. Nintendo doesn't spout bullshit about optimization or cpu limits when they release a Zelda or Mariokart game. Like anyone gives a toss.
Zelda is barely working on Switch at times, lol. There’s nothing there to brag about.

Witcher 3 on the other hand is a miracle port and was rightfully praised in the media and on the forums.

What a silly statement. Every major game pushes the hardware to its limits. That’s why they have frame or resolution drops. It’s what you do with those limits what counts. And AB did well.

The section when Astro Bot can turn small and big was really impressive but then again I’m not tech geek to know if that actually “impressive” or not from tech stand point.

Astrobot has some very nice physics and simulation going on under its charming exterior and they're talking about pushing all this on a low power CPU.
 
How many other games are out there that have as much crazy physics on objects like Astro Bot? As gamers we focus WAY too much on graphics when cool shit can be done with physics, AI and audio that sadly goes unappreciated.


Infinity Nikki sure pushes the hardware, too. It's an open world full of physics, interactions, NPCs, animals with night-day routines, minigames, etc. It features stylized PS4 graphics, but the world feels alive, unlike open worlds that seem more demanding on screenshots but are lifeless sceneries where nothing happens.

Like Astrobot, some people dismiss it because it's a "kiddy game" and to me, they are technically more impressive than games like Horizon or Spiderman.
