I and many other people on GAF decried this trend from GTA4 onward. The open ended nature of missions in 3/VC/SA allowed you to be creative and resulted in emergent gameplay situations. 4 ditched that in favor of fully scripted missions where you chase a guy for a set amount of time while he’s invulnerable until a scripted finale. Was a huge downgrade.

I didn't finish GTA V as I got bored by the story, but I remember missions where I was supposed to catch up to someone and make them crash or something. I started wondering why their car acted like a tank and was impossible to affect until I realized I was just supposed to follow it and listen to the dialogue until it crashed by itself. It basically had cutscenes disguised as gameplay.

They only had one overall arc worth paying attention really. Trevor finding Michael.
Anything else like FIB and Franklin rags to riches by rubbing shoulders with the professional finding a father figure was all so weak with no bite. After every mission everything going back to zero is such an apt description of the entire campaign.

And then if you fail the mission, you have to replay the sequence from the start and listen to the same dialog again. And if you crash or slightly brush an NPC car the characters stop talking and repeat the same lines again. Rockstar really needs to overall their mission/scripting design for GTA VI.

Also Michael should have dumped Amanda after he found out about the affair, both are toxic towards each other.
