Yeah, I think it's important because a lot of people give the awards a lot of significance. I usually only watch it for the reveals. But these past couple of years have been very lackluster; thinking I should just wait until the show is done to see if anything catches my eyes.

For me? No. For the Industry? Yes...

Awkwardly worded question, so I responded no.
The mainstream doesn’t care about videogame awards. I don’t think they care especially for Grammy’s and Oscar’s either, it’s just a way for industry people to pat themselves in the back and get some drinks in.

I enjoy it a lot actually. Singular live cultural events are important and are fun to talk and bitch about. Just like the Oscar’s. Gaming is building its own Oscar’s and it’s getting more “cred” every passing year imo. Even tho I complain about the Oscar’s I’m glad it’s there.

Awards shows peaked over a decade ago I think. Internet ruined their importance. Nowadays whether its movies, music, video games, books, whatever - peoples favorites each year are all over the place and award shows so small scope considering how much is released a year that their prestige/importance has declined. Then there's just how many awards granting organizations there are now. Not important

It's an arbitrary award show at the end of the day. Whatever happens doesn't change the fact that you experienced a good or bad game by yourself.
I am only interested in the announcements, and it's a shame that the game awards is used as a platform more so than the awards themselves because major shows from the past like E3 are dead.

No, I can't tolerate watching this (or any other award show). Way too much filler, ads, cringe, self-promotion, "celebrities" patting each other on the back for how great they are, etc. Reminds me of Hollywood. Plus, it takes itself seriously. No real fun.

I scan later for game reveals or trailers, but that's about it. I don't care who wins the awards.

"An important part of the industry" sure sounds like an exaggeration to me. However, I still think it's a good thing to have. Might be controversial around GAF but I'm not against Keighley and this show, I still enjoy watching it.

Never watch em but come here for the info on what was revealed, after the absolute debacle surrounding Dragon age it really hammers home how utterly out of touch these so called "videogame journalists" and institutions are that id rather trust the words outa MTG mouthhole over these cunts, as far as I'm concerned the only 3 games that should be up for GOTY are Warhammer DudeBros the Game, the Chyna Monkey Game and the skintight titty doll game and any cool wee indie, I fully expect Dragon Age Purple Hair Politic Warrior to win it

People said the same crap about E3 then they complained when it went. It's not important to the industry in that it can live without it and have announcements on youtube or something but why wouldn't people want a show dedicated to their hobby? Especially those in the actual industry.

It’s not a bad thing for the industry to have because it brings at least some more visibility and a sense of legitimacy.

Is it truly important? I don’t think so, but it helps. I think part of the reason for the format not being great for gamers is Geoff needs to make money, he isn’t provided funding from anyone, hence the ads and “celebrities”.

Well, and of course the GOYT winners are often quite suspect, but that’s the current industry.

I dont care about the awards since it is becoming political and agenda pushing. I just watched the show for new game announcement and new trailers. What I hope for is for E3 to be back.

Geoff's TGA isn't about the awards. It's about selling airtime for trailers and ads. The awards themselves get pathetically little airtime. If it were to actually put the people who make games ahead of the advertising I think it would be way more valuable. I get that the money to produce the show has to come from somewhere, but he needs to find a better way to handle the awards part so that it doesn't seem like an afterthought.
The show would be like 4 hours then which isn’t feasible. The issue at the end is that funding is from advertisers, hence the format.

If bigger companies like Nintendo, MS, Sony, EA, Take 2 and so on, threw in some $ for the show, it would be different. But that won’t happen.

If Doritos Pope didn’t blatantly change the rules just so he could potentially give his favorites another GOTY, then I could at least respect it.

Nope, the awards are bollocks as is the influencer crap they shoehorn in, and don’t get me started on Snyder and his rebel moon rubbish. The only bits worth watching are the trailers and any musical numbers they sometimes do.

Well we don't have E3 anymore which I thought was the best to catch everything in a week. Game Awards is OK I guess, I don't care for the way it's presented and I find Geoff unlikeable. It's good for the trailers though I guess.

A useless event, I think it is unlikely that any of the players will accept the awards that are given out there. Considering that they decide for themselves what to give out to whom. In the end, each player will have their own list of games and their favorites. Therefore, these are purely event to praise themselves and spin ads =)

They posted the jury composition + wrote that the votes are taken into account in the ratio of 90% (Jury - guess who's on the jury right away...) to 10% (players), that is, in fact, the players' votes mean nothing, and the winners have already been chosen for us.
