Finished Life is Strange: True Colors. Much smaller in terms of scope compared to the first two games, and the powers of the protaganist also feel much less important to the overall story. The story didn't feel as impactful, maybe because the story was centered around adults. These games' strength really lie in the writing of teenage dramas.
Would still recommend though
 
Dragon's Dogma 2. I can't speak for launch but this game is dope as F right now. Totally scratching that epic adventure itch.

Arkham Shadow. Really impressive game. It really does feel like a VR Arkham Asylum.

Rise of the Ronin, haven't played in a few months, 110 hours in. One of those games I don't want to see end but I gotta finish it so I can finally put it to rest. Shame this game can't catch a break. It's a total gem.

Rebirth is on the backburner. It's great but too big, I get exhausted doing all the side stuff.

Wilds, lost all interest when I realized the loop is as simple as it is. Still plan on finishing the campaign for coop purposes though. Not the game I was expecting.

Dude I took a break from rebirth because it is so huge and I wanted to give it some air. I thought I was a little close to the end to do that but it was time. So I took a month. Then I went back recently, and I was kinda close to the end. But after the break, I wanted more. So I did something unusual for me and went around the whole map mopping up tons of that side stuff. In most games this big, I would leave most of that, especially the most numerous little nothing-quests. But the gameplay, musi, and the immersion in that place makes it fun. I dumped in another 40 hours in three weeks and had to take another break!!!!

After not playing anything for a few weeks due to endlessly fiddling with my first tablet pc (was a little worried I'd wish I got a laptop but no, I love this thing), I got back to Wanted: Dead and this game continues to grow on me. I can't believe how many hours I've put into it. It's just sublime.

Everyone says it's like a ps3-era game, but I swear it's not. It has tps mechanics right out of that era, but I think it was just the most straightforward way to prominently implement guns. They maybe should have nixed the cover system in favor of a simple crouch but the game has tons of rough edges so throw that one on the pile.

The feeling I get from it, I can only trace back to older 2d games. Electric Underground did compare it to metal slug. Sounds odd but I see that a bit. For me it feels a little like shinobi? Shinobi has that emphasis on the projectiles because the ninja stars are your main attack. But on the other hand, they are sort of not. So shinobi ends up feeling free-form and you have a good amount of room to use the stars or close attacks as you like.

I'm a little hooked on the feel of the game. Even running around the police station (inter-level downtime sections) is a little fun because the movement is so good. I was thinking the mc could use a few 80's one-liners, but her control is so good that it fills her out as a near-silent action game character. She's got the control you want, the moves you want, the reward you want. We wouldn't look at sonic the way we do if he controlled like a generic platformer back in the day.

I've had Wanted: Dead for months. I really need to boot it up. I don't buy the overly harsh critiques. I won't know until I play it but I get the impression that most gamers simply can't deal with trial and error. They need scripted things and hand holding. Anything that feels "dated" is immediately labeled jank or bad game design. I play a lot of "busted" games and it's usually just user error IMO.

I'm playing Tears of the Kingdom again after playing like forty hours and setting it aside for over a year. I remember thinking the vehicle-building mechanics were fun but otherwise feeling kind of "meh" about it and being frustrated that it wasn't clicking for me the way BotW did.

This time around I have started really exploring the depths, and, holy shit, it has totally changed my opinion of the game. Navigating through the dark, infected by gloom, using your bow to light the way, desperately trying to make it to the next lightroot is hugely fun and compelling and makes the game feel like a true sequel to BotW that pushes the boundaries of its gameplay and challenge and not just a retread with new mechanics.

Also, the depths are one of the most unsettling and beautiful environments I've encountered in a game. Verging on FromSoft territory.

Getting close to finishing all the "quests" of MH Wilds. Essentially reaching the end game where I will go for each weapon in the two types I'm maining and then getting the armor sets of each monster. Around 50 hour mark now.

Started to play more PSVR2 games again. GT7, Into the Radius, Puzzling Places.

I also picked up the Yugioh Early Days Collection on Switch so I've played a bit of those.

It's more than that and the harsh reviews are understandable. It feels OLD in your hands. For me, I was taking it on a recommendation and it felt very stiff at first. Took several hours for it to start sinking it. I didn't dislike it at first, but I could feel that this system was going to take a bit to get a handle on. ie: This cancels into that but not into that, that cancels into this but only when that happens, oh this doesn't really work until I unlock that move, etc.

It's not flowy with a bunch of branching combos. It's constrained and stiff-feeling, (which is a strength, eventually). It might seem like you have two 4-hit combos the whole time. Lots of stuff that are going to make the real feel of the game inaccessible at least at the start, and possibly forever for some people.

Like a lot of good action games, the difficulty and enemies will make you explore the system and you pick it up organically as long as you don't give up.

It's a bit of a godhand situation. Sure the game is now highly regarded, but a lot of that is vicariously through action game afficionados and many of the people who make fun of ign to this day would have hated godhand back then.

I wouldn't call myself an action afficionado, but I am an active appreciator!

Finished Road 96. A strange mix of some roguelite elements, walking sim and light puzzles.

Change of pace from Trails through Daybreak!

Treated myself to Path of Achra (fantastic rogue like with mad builds) and Anno 1800 as it was super cheap on steam.

Enjoying both, Anno is a weird city builder but I am liking it so far.

Still got Labyrinth of Galleria and BG3 on the back burner.

This year is gonna throw a bunch more long games into my backlog as well

I used to play one game at a time. It's crazy how fast I bounce off games nowadays just to try something new. I need more focus.
 
I jumped back into black myth Wu Kong. It's a really great game and I haven't played since launch week and just having maps is a BIG freakin help.

I do wish it was more forgiving about letting you know you triggered side missions though. I was about middle through act 3 when I released that I had to be missing things. Kept getting materials that had absolutely no use. Found out via research that I missed being able to upgrade my ground/flask and ability to craft medicines, both regular and celestial. Amazed that I got as far as I did as I was severely underpowered and at a disadvantage 😂

Pirate Yakuza. I have just started into the Coliseum, about 28 hours in.

The game is relaxing and fun. It's much more casual-friendly than previous Yakuza games, with significantly easier combat and lots of "cozy" type side activities. The side activities are too much for my tastes - feels like "more is better" syndrome - but they are optional. The game is enjoyable at the core, and I like Majima as the protagonist.
 
Control on Steam

Just today they shadow dropped a patch that updates everyone to the Ultimate Edition, adds all the pre-order costumes, adds the PlayStation exclusive Hideo Kojima mission, Updates DLSS, adds HDR, and a bunch other stuff.

I assume that patch is also live on EGS but not sure.

Game seems so damn fun.
This is all XSX. I just want to finish the Tsushima DLC on my PS5 at some point.

Finished and platinumed Rise of the Ronin. Impressive game, awesome music and history. Without the performance problems should be easily a goty contender, but the NPC pop in and instable framerate it is too distracting imo. Played on the pro, by the way.

Started Dead Space Remake and oh boy, this game is as good as I remember. The sound alone should be the standard for the industry. Had to use my headphones, otherwise my cats would run scared all the time... This one won't be platinumed, the permadeath is too much for my old self.

I think it suffers from Kickstarter background. Can't help noticing that certain characters are forced into the game. Other than that, the turn based combat is fun.

You run around a colorful world, solving surprisingly good puzzles and getting new powers. Combat's basic, but the exploration is where it's at. You'll be hooked on figuring out how to reach that one stupid chest. Seriously, it's way more fun than it looks.

It's a point-and-click mystery with a dark, small-town vibe. Pixel art, but the story's solid, and the voice acting actually works. If you like old-school adventure games and a good mystery, give it a shot.

Lords of Thunder [Turbo Duo]
Pure fun in videogame form. A high point standout in the sea of thousands of shmups.
Its amazing to me how this simple game from 1993 runs circles around 99.9% of today's junk. Its right there - plain as day.
I dont normally like guitar rock in my game music but this one is different. What a soundtrack to go with the incredible colorful sprites.
As a side note playing both versions recently, the Turbo Duo version destroys the Sega CD one - but they did add the forgive-able hitstun to the Sega CD one to make it a bit more fair.
They don't makem like they used to...

Animal Well [Xbox Series X]
Metroidvanias have grown beyond stale for me but this one's atmosphere and theme is unique enough to stick with it. There some jank game design in there - but the weirdness, vagueness, and strangeness of it all makes up for it. Surprised I cant find the soundtrack for this anywhere.

I finished Trails in the Sky SC yesterday and today it's time to start Trails in the Sky the 3rd. So far, so good. I'm curious what's in store for the final chapter of the trilogy, as SC ends in a way that you can only guess what it might be about...
