The scenario for the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is now complete.

Speaking to Famitsu ahead of the PC release of Rebirth alongside game director Naoki Hamaguchi, series producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed the status of the next game, adding he's "very satisfied with it".

Hamaguchi stated development on the third game began right after Rebirth ended and is progressing without delay from the team's schedule, though it's still publicly unknown when the planned release date will be.

Kitase added Rebirth creative director Tetsuya Nomura was given "homework" to give the remake project a conclusion that both respected the original Final Fantasy 7 and provided a new sense of satisfaction not felt in the original. This was completed by the end of 2024.

"I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure the fans will be satisfied with the final chapter," he said.

Earlier in the interview, the pair discussed the increased importance of the PC platform as player numbers increase.

Kitase noted how development costs are rising, so "we need to deliver [the game] to a wider market". This is in-line with Square Enix's current multiplatform strategy.

He even joked the PC version is convenient to play in window mode to look up strategies online.

My only hope is they improve the writing and open world quest design. Good combat, well designed characters, pretty graphics, let down by the worst elements of Ubisoft games and shitty quest design/dialogue, especially in side quests. There's no mystery to be found, everything is expected formulaic copy paste dross. Even the summons which should be an intruiging mystery to be found out in the world are diluted down to 'find 4 same things with copy paste puzzles per region, then go to chadley to unlock in the simulator' its absolute crap tier.

Man, if summons were properly woven in like the Ifrit one in VIII or everything in XII it would've made some great side quests.

The protorelic stuff was great, I think you're just looking for disappointment from that write up. The whole section where you get FMV on Wedge and other Avalanche backstory was hardly crap design/dialogue.

My understanding is FFVII was rushed originally so plans to resurrect
Aerith
were scrapped, wonder if they'll be realized in Part 3 or if they stay the course.

60% of the main quest story and quest dialogue is good, some decent. The remainder was just bad.

For side quests, it’s more like 20-30% was decent, the rest was bad, with a fair chunk being terrible, especially the voice over stuff when going near the rare wild enemies. Literally anything that’s not in the “good” category would be better written by an ai 🤷‍♂️

FF16 suffered from very similar issues.

I wonder if FF17 is taking a back seat so that they can fully focus on FF7 part 3.

And I also doubt the day 1 on PC. I think the entire trilogy will be timed PS exclusive, and I think that it's going to be the last Square game to not be released on all platforms at the same time.

Probably. They actually need to slow down on games lol. Even though that's weird to say.

I hope Sephiroth can still destroy every single planet in the solar system several times in a row. Felt like the perfect final attack for that absurd game.

I mean, Square's CEO said that Square is done with third-party exclusive stuff. So if he meant what he said, it should be on multiple platforms Day 1.
You hace to consider that negotiation with sony may have been done many years ago and not be easily changed on a whim.

The remaining story beats are the most epic and best parts from the original. Bring it on.

I remember Nomura or Hamaguchi teasing FFXVI equivalent spectacle battles with the WEAPONS. 🤯

If so, it's a pretty bad deal for them, in hindsight.
Depends, ony could have payed more than enough to cover it and make it worthwhile.
I think their biggest error was to split this into 3 games and have Nomura go all MCU on it.
I think it graet that they get three whole games to make it as big as it is, but cheap and small for witch could have been super profitable.

The only encouraging thing to consider is that in Rebirth, there was no Epic Game Store timed exclusivity - which means that PERHAPS the deals were made per each game separately as they were close to release, rather than years before.

Still, I doubt Part 3 is going to be multiplat day 1.

I don't think xbox is ever getting a port. I think 16 will but not 7. 7 is too closely tied to the playstations legacy.

I am 100% certain that X-Box will get the games, but maybe in definitive all-in-one package once everyone else get them. Hell, I can see the Switch 2 getting the games earlier than X-Box. But they WILL come to that console, eventually.

That's what I think.

I probably buy it, and I did enjoy my time with Rebirth. But next time, just go the HD-2D way with these classics.

The third game can be redeemed if they just put you into the open world, with sort of hidden side stuff to do and find which makes the same much more immersive. Dial down on minigames, checklist side quests (towers and moogle houses) and axe Chadley.

I hope we get the game next year. or at least by mid-2027.

i mean, they have the engine ready. graphics and everything. it shouldn't really take long. but I would like to play it as soon as it's out to finish the story. I don't want to wait till 2028 lol.

Looking forward to seeing how the trilogy ends.
I hope afterwards they make Advent Children into a game as well. They could really expand a lot there.

Pls god, less boring content and minigames and there is no need to bloat segments just for the sake of it, thats all i ask.

Edit: and drop the Ubisoft style of checklist openworld content.

We will soon have to assess the outcome of this remake. Commercial success? Initially, it seemed that way, but Rebirth didn’t quite reach the heights that were expected. It was referred to as Square Enix's 'nuclear weapon,' but in the end, the sales are just about satisfactory.

I would have liked the opposite, though.

We must realize that the new audience, or at least part of it, didn’t grow up with FF7 and doesn’t really care about it.

If this third installment performs worse than Rebirth, it’s going to be very difficult for future FF remakes. In fact, I’m already starting to lose faith.

Oh they will continue to milk the earlier FF games. But it will be A/AA budget type games and not AAA. Could even argue that Final Fantasy might be done as an AAA franchise.

Oh, I'm sure that FF17 (even though I think they'll eventually drop the numbering) will still be a AAA title. However, as for the remakes of the older installments, yeah, that’s over. Anyway, the franchise doesn't have the same impact as before. It's like pretending Tomb Raider will sell millions of copies – not anymore.
