GAMEPUMP - Service cancelled, everyone refunded + 2 bonus apology games

What makes you so sure they haven't?

There's every possibility that they did contact media outlets but no-one bothered to run a story on them because they haven't really said anything worth reporting--yes, they exist and they intend to bring new games to Steam every month but a lot of people simply don't care about this service and won't care until Gamepump starts being more forthcoming about the games they have in the pipeline and the games they're pursuing more generally.

The only people who are going to give them money upfront without knowing what they're paying for are maniacs who are projecting their specific wants onto a company that may very well deliver something entirely different.

Or just willing to take a gamble if they can spare the 20$ over a year.

I took a gamble and I'm fine with it, even if I'm sure the service is going to be of very little benefit in the end.

Kinda weird that this is supposedly launching tomorrow and there's been no noise about it. They haven't tweeted or emailed or anything. Guessing it will just show up in my inbox? If it's launching on Steam simultaneously shouldn't it already be in the Steam database too?

Cool idea but they need to announce games ahead of time.

It's 2017 - people don't even want to preorder AAA games, let alone spend $$$ up-front on mystery games.

If they don't start being transparent with their timeline this service will fail.

Generally speaking Steamdb entries are hidden before store pages go live.

Well the Humble Bundle does this and it's a success

This looks a little fishy, especially because of how secretive they're being. I just discovered this today. I'll bite though since I can use PayPal and can spend the $20 if I'm getting 13 games out of it.

I mean... is it? I seem to remember the response to Humble Monthly being pretty negative when it was announced. I have no idea whether a lot of people buy into that system or not.

Regardless, Humble launched the subscription after building up years and years of goodwill.

Do I even have an account with them if I used Paypal? I feel like I don't, and I also know I never got an email or anything from them confirming I was good to go. Got the Paypal receipt, though.

I think it's doing OK for them. And this was started by Robert after he headed up that program at Humble, so it must be some sort of success especially if he thinks he can replicate it on his own.

Same situation here. I'm quite curious to see what's in store, but I don't even have an account (or anything other than the PayPal receipt). I'll email them again.

Honestly, if the first game is the Wiiware Lit I'll feel comfortable with my buy to some degree.

Edit: Probably not the best idea to call your fledgling company attempting to blind-sell to discerning consumers "Super Villain Incorporated".

I think it's OK. Kids love the edge these days.

Is there anything stopping me from waiting a few months, seeing how the first few games turn out, then subscribing for 12 months?

Also, any idea if I'd get the games from the first three months after subscribing?

^ the $20 year deal will probably be gone then. And I would imagine you don't get the previous games and instead have to buy at regular steam price.

That would be lame. I'm definitely interested, so I'll consider just subscribing. I generally trust that Robert Bowling isn't going to just give out Shovelware, or games that aren't at least at a base level, solid games.

Definitely not -- the whole purpose of a subscription is that you get stuff while you're subscribed, not while you're not.

Is this stated on the site? I'm quite interested to subscribe, but it's unclear whether the $20 deal will still be available, or if they will be adding more games.

If it was a year-long $20 deal that you could jump into at anytime and get all the games you had previously missed... it would just be a $20 13-game Humble Bundle.

Very interested in seeing how this goes, the first game pretty much will set the bar of what to expect. For me personally at least.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Just jumped in last minute, been enjoying getting a surprise every month with Humble.
Just jumped in too for the full year because why not.

Well, we may see why not! Hoping for some decent stuff :)

I'll give this a go for $20. The number of subs seems a little low though. Maybe more are waiting to see what kind of games will be on the service before jumping in.

This sounds interesting, shame they don't offer GOG keys too or I'd be all over this.

Still fantastic from a preservation point of view though, assuming this are competent ports.

That is my stance as it stands. If they are serious about game preservation then I wish Gamepump all the luck in the world but as it stands I just can't bring myself to support a random game subscription service blindly.

Do we have an estimate time for the first game to be revealed/released?

There's been no announcement or update regarding the game at all. I thought they would be teasing the game or atleast hinting about the impending release by this point. As they're on US time hopefully something happens in about ~6+ hours from now.

If you convince them to bring Liberation Maiden and Starship Damrey to Steam I'll probably pay $20, so please go ahead!

I suggest trying out the Echo Night series, it's a horror game made by From Software, and I find them very similar (and superior) to Starship Damrey.
