Games in which the playable protagonist contemplates or even successfully attempts Su***cide. Potential trigger warning and also spoilers.

Forgive the censored nature of that word, I am not sure if I can even make this topic without it being a potential site violation. DISCLAIMERS: I deal with depression and other issues that I am in therapy for. This topic is not cause for alarm of any sort. If this topic violates any rules, please let me know, and I will request topic closure/deletion.

So, my question is that. Are there any games with the theme of depression that leads the main controllable character to that final action? I am only familiar with Transistor, and I am not even sure it counts.

I don't imagine there would be many, especially on a Nintendo console, so maybe PC and PS5 are my targets?

"Every cell of this cancer has to be destroyed. That includes you, AND me."

If you end up taking the diamonds, you pay for passage of civilians across the border, then a single gunshot is heard as the credits roll.

Also, Bro/Sis, you ok? Life can be tough at times. But I genuinely hope you're doing well in therapy. Feel free to reach out in DM if you feel a bit too vulnerable one day. There's also the hotlines to memorize depending on where you are. Good luck with everything.

I think that games can explore all facets of life, including those times when someone considers ending it. So, I don't think it's a problem to discuss it openly like this as long as you handle the subject with the proper weight.

That said, OP, please don't do anything drastic. Find something that distracts you and gets you to the next day. I know you can get through this.

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. Per my first post in this topic I do want to say that I am fine as of now. If that changes, then. I'll keep taking steps to make sure it does not. IN the meantime, I go through phases where I am sucker for high drama. Currently playing Nier Automata. Might move backwards to Nier Replicant once finished with this.

Literally on a Nintendo console.

She even makes the attempt but fails, then hears word from her friends and sets out to finish saving the world which has effectively already been destroyed.

I think its pretty wild in the VR Superhot game, you can restart by pointing the gun at yourself and shooting yourself

Spec Ops the Line has an ending where the main protagonist shoots himself. It also deals with depression, War trauma and ptsd.
Hmm. I seem to recall Resonant Arc on YouTube talking about that game a while ago. Unless I am thinking of something else similar. Will have to go check again.

Although not exactly of course, but in general Persona 3, the process of summoning a Persona during the time of Part 3 required much more than now, and the process was very symbolic (Shooting yourself in the head). But in fact, when characters in the game sacrifice themselves for the greater good, or sacrifice themselves to save the world, is a fairly common occurrence in games, especially in Japanese RPGs.

Oh? been wanting to play that. but I hear that the recent rerelease took the female protagonist out of the game for some reason? I have no problem with male characters in games, but I'd rather play as my own gender if given the opportunity.

This is not entirely true, there are 2 versions of the game - Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES, the remaster simply does not have the content from the FES version. But nothing was removed from the game.

I wish I had known that before I bought the version that does not feature her. I do not have much experience with this series, but it would be nice to have one with a female protagonist in the future.

Offtopic, but I never understood why * in a word would help with anything? If you are so traumatized that seeing the word triggers you, you would be triggered by it even if it has an * in it or not.

When the whole word is censored, then there is a chance it would make a difference.

I think its outta fear of breaking some sort of rule on this site. If you censor then you're not breaking the rules? Honestly OP should have gone for the chad move of saying commit not alive, would've been more fitting for the gaf sense of humor.

Makes sense if it is due to rules. However I see it often on other platforms too such as Twitter where it is not a problem.

His Suicide Squad is one of the best Suicide Squad I like in the video games. ME2 is one of the best!
It is not truly killing themselves without thinking though, their plan is to save through sacrifice.

so, not suicide actually, a sacrifice. depend on the context, might had different things with what you are looking for in this thread.

Gale, same story with The Trailblazer in Honkai: Star Rail, quite a popular plot, when something inside the character can go bang at any moment
