Games in which the playable protagonist contemplates or even successfully attempts Su***cide. Potential trigger warning and also spoilers.

And you can plug away some chips from the menu so the player character dies. That is one of the endings.

Edit: there is also the self destruct you can do with some button combination of I recall correctly
Yeah but I was thinking more along the lines of main character makes it all the way to the end of the game, and then..... Like one of the earlier Cyberpunk 2077 examples listed in the topic.

The worst ending of Heavy Rain. If Ethans's son (press X for Jason) is not rescued and dies, he hangs himself. That has to be of of the darkest endings I have ever seen.

Also can't forget the ending of Diablo1. Shoving that soul stone into his skull...

His Suicide Squad is one of the best Suicide Squad I like in the video games. ME2 is one of the best!
It is not truly killing themselves without thinking though, their plan is to save through sacrifice.

so, not suicide actually, a sacrifice. depend on the context, might had different things with what you are looking for in this thread.
Mass Effect 2 is one of the best games ever made in the history of video games. I'm saying this as somebody who started on a Magnavox Odyssey 2 and Atari 2600. So when I say this is one of the best, if not the best video game ever made, I'm not saying that lightly.

Damn. That gave me chills. That shit was so manly and epic and tragic, I think it changed my gender. *Checks, yep, I have a beard and male genitals now, LOL. No, but seriously I don't know what that is or what it is on, but I felt the epicenes along my spine and my neck.

I know a bunch of games that don't necessarily involve themes of suicide, but do have stories and themes that revolve around negative feelings, ugly sides of us and don't hold back their punches:

-Disco Elysium
-VA-11 Hall-A
-Nier Automata
-Okeari
-Cruelty Squad
-Dungeon Munchies
-Higurashi
-Milk inside a bag of milk & Milk outside a bag of milk

Now for some very fucked up games that would repulse normal people, but someone on a very low point may relate with:
-Fear and Hunger
-Saya no Uta
-Lessons in Love

Literally on a Nintendo console.

She even makes the attempt but fails, then hears word from her friends and sets out to finish saving the world which has effectively already been destroyed.

It wasn't until many years later I learned you could avoid this scene if you fed "the man in the banana suit" with the "fast fish". (I swear that's what his sprite looked like lol)

I'll spoiler this if I can but Baldurs Gate 3 presents a suicide option
if you choose the Dark Urge path, accept Bhaals gift and decide to destroy the Netherbrain during the final battle.

I'm not sure what happens since if the player makes that choice though.
