450,000 units next week. I think the launch of pink went to show that nintendo could produce 220,000 units a week so they held back 40,000 units in one week and now 150,000 this week. And maybe there's a few extra.

DSL decrease most probably caused by undershipping to made sure there are enough DSL for FF3 launch. It means that :
DSL managed to achieve 13 weeks consecutive sales of 100K+ (from May 15 till Aug 13), breaking the previous record of 8 weeks consecutive sales of 100K+ (from March 13 till May 7).
If the sales in May 08 - 14 managed to reach 100K (actual sales is 91K+), DSL could have 22 consecutive weeks.

DSL managed to maintain 50K+ sales since launch (now is the 25th weeks since launch).
PSP is holding at 41K, which made the it a 4 weeks consecutive sales of 40K+.

I wonder how much DSL and that package were shipped for FF III launch? DSL itself can sell as much as Nintendo shipped, usually 150-200k/week. A FF III launch prerequisite would be like double that. :D

Sinobi actually makes a fun little comparison of how FFXII is available with 24 hours at Amazon, but not FFIII. :lol

~200k DSL Weekly
~100k Supposed Stock nintendo pulled from last week
~100k Theoretical Limited edition DSL

Seriously, I'm really shocked that the long-legs-software handled in the top (and even sell more) without 175k new dsl being bought. I really thought that they would go down as the same rate as DSL. Seems not.

DS software and hardware sales follow no trends or rules in Japan. Except if they sell out.

68% of FF3? So that confirms that they did ship only 450k. or is the % based on what was said here?

309,000 in one day, 68% sell through. So its true they shipped only about 450k then.


Hmmm... 309,000 for one day sounds like alot. What are some examples of some other games that sold like that?

so what's square enix going to make next for ds in terms of major final fantasy rpgs?

there's clearly a big audience for a more traditional ff rpg and i can see why. i played all the ff up to ffx, but grew tired of the direction it was headed.

i think the best bet would be develop an entirly new line of games, i don't think there's any point in remaking any others on the ds.

And so we can safely conclude that about 25,000 DSLs were produced with FFIII, and surprisingly not all of it sold out.
