Joker 1 was severely supply constrained, and the DS userbase is likely much more Dragon Quest heavy now than it was when Joker 1 launched. A larger first week shouldn't be out of the question.

I had forgotten this. According to Media Create Joker 1 stock problems began after is second week, as weekly sales show (because of the new year holidays - 28/12/06 release).

There was plenty of supply the first week.

At 2k-ish a week and 50k still to go, we're looking at, what, nearly a year to sell the whole first shipment? Is that unrivalled, or was there a worse hardware launch? I'm thinking Virtual Boy might top it...

Certainly the five dungeon installments have had a downward trajectory, though, and 1.1 million -> 62k is pretty shocking.

No, it's not. It's one part Magic The Gathering style collectible card game to four or five parts minigame fest. No dungeons or RPG combat at all.

SE probably made it a little bit confusing by giving Chocobo's Dungeon Wii the FF Fables branding in the US.

They really aren't that horrible of games too. Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book 2 could be found just about anywhere a few months after release for 999 yen new, on the other hand chocobo's dungeon DS+ still has a 1000yen+ used trade in price.

Weeell, the fact that there is at least one game in there without numbers (Square's first GBA release was a non-charting Chocobo game) shows that it wasn't completely downhill. It was one of those sad December releases that can't make the higher-than-normal Top 30 cutoff, doesn't have enough time to eke onto the current yearly Top 500, and not enough legs to make it onto the next yearly Top 500 without the aid of its first few weeks.
