They must be really confident about something going forward.

It all very much smacks of Dreamcast era Sega to me. This desperation and need to sell gangbusters but absolutely no workable strategy or software to make it happen.

Plus the absurdity of having to plan for yet another hardware launch within the next 18 months and the inevitable drain on resources that will have... I don't like their chances.

i think they'll just stuff the channels with vitas this year and meet or come close to their forecasts. then, next year, they should have some more popular games or be able to drop the price of the system and sorta make up for it. it's basically what they did with the ps3.

this is off the back of a decent launch period in america. we'll see later today if that holds up, i guess.

I slightly love the fact that METAL GEAR is both regarded as a genre (okay, 'or category', but still), and capitalised. It's wonderfully incongruous.

What's with the "Approx. same as FYxx" bits? Wouldn't it be both more descriptive and less text to give a number?

Where are you getting the "By a Bull" part, Chris?

The same place Sony got PSV+PSP forecast for this year.

Do interpret this correctly in saying: Sony's PSV and PSP numbers were pulled out of the same ass as your translation? One busy ass, I'd say.

I like how you're comparing this with what is essentially an expansion pack. Get back to me when Fire Emblem outsells Z2.1 and Z2.2 combined, or even just Z2.1.
It's already ahead of Z2.1 2nd week actually, given the untracked online shipments and despite extreme shortages. Fire Emblem Awakening is going to go on to be the best selling handheld Simulation RPG rather easily imo. It's only real competition is probably FFTA, and even that looks pretty doable (442k).

2nd (Place) Super Robot Taisen Z :)

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
. With its place accepted, it was pretty much only discussed for big games that would come out on it. It's part of the five stages of loss. Acceptance is the end.

Vita seems to be in the Bargaining phase currently. "If only this would happen..." "If only this had been done sooner..." It could still turn around, but that seems to be where it's at now.

Amazing. They refuse to admit there's a problem!

donny was wrong, they're still stuck on the first step: denial.

Btw, did Konami release MGS HD and 3D shipments LTD?

Marvelous AQL FY Results

Only shipment information is [3DS] Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin: 190k (as of Mar. 31st).

Marvelous has found great success with 3DS, both Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin and Senran Kagura: Shoujotachi no Shinei have performed really well. I expect Rune Factory 4 (July 19th) to stop the decline of this franchise.

Rune Factory series:

[NDS] Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon - 145,346
[NDS] Rune Factory 2 - 116,287
[NDS] Rune Factory 3 - 85,648

[Wii] Rune Factory Frontier - 41,170
[PS3] Rune Factory: Oceans - 31,961
[Wii] Rune Factory: Oceans - 10,040

Did not listen to the IR event myself yet, but apparently there was a Vita-related question in the Q&A, though as with most Sony conferences it was just another hollow-promise non-answer. Really having a hard time imagining a situation where they can realize 10million unit sales.

Since no one cared for Starhawk today this week will be the same but with much lower numbers for most games and hardware.

Yeah, I guess, Rune Factory can do over 100k quite easily.

The Japanese market = 2/3 of the American market in April. Very good Japan!

Horrible for America.

Now that Soul Sacrifice has been fully unveiled, what does Sales GAF think about its chances of catching on? Seems very MH-ish from what I saw in the videos.

I can see Soul Sacrifice doing nicely, since it will be pushed by Sony as the next big title for Japan, but I'd say from 100k to 200k at most. Not a system seller for sure.

Seems pretty rare that a game setting out to be THE NEXT (alreadypopulartitle) makes a splash anywhere near the original, but it's also the case a game could have just a fraction the success of Monster Hunter and still be a pretty big deal.

Seriously.

Sony either has a trick up it's sleeve that we don't know about or they're completely deluding themselves with that estimate.

I'm betting on the latter.

That's what people said in a year of Slim and big price cut when they saw hardware predictions :)

Pretty much this although MH clones success on PSP were favoured by MH itself building the userbase.
Vita have yet to prove it has that audience.

I dont think that this matters that much. I mean, it goes for every new/newer systems. I.e upcoming WiiU, it have yet to prove it has an audience regarding any genre (it is obvious since the system isnt out yet, but still). But what we know is that a genre can be very popular. As long as the game(s) are very good/interesting, and the hardware is affordable and interesting, i think this is this biggest thing to concider.

The Vita hardware should work very well for a MH game, so i dont see much concern around this. The only thing is Vita's pricetag, but i think that we will see a pricedrop this year.

Wii is the classic example of how a system without genre kings will fail to attract a wide audience for those type of games, though, which is the sort of thing he's talking about. PSP benefited from MH, the obvious king of its genre, lifting the sales of similar titles.

Any MH clone is going to find it hard going on Vita without MH to build the audience. It'd be like releasing your FPS on a system that doesn't have Call of Duty.

These are simply incredible.
They've kept selling a nice amount on a weekly basis since their launch; and if this might appear obvious for games such as Nintendogs or Pokémon, seeing at Hatsune Miku or THEATRHYTHM really represent a win/win situation for 3DS and third parties.

And Zelda... Well, congrats!

I'm not sure. In the FPS genre for example, the Wii had all six Call of Duty games (from CoD3 to MW3), still it didnt really matter much in the long run. I think the reason for this was due to the hardware limitations of the Wii. Such a senario is not the case with the Vita compared to other handhelds.

I think it is pretty safe to say that MH helped the genre on the PSP (or in general for that matter), so i agree with that. But i dont think this necessarily means "make it or break it" if the genre can have games that people are really interested in.

Another factor for the Pokemon selling 3DS debate; the AR Shooter app apparently contains exclusive forms of Pokemon that can't be obtained through playing the game on DS, essentially granting the 3DS exclusives.
As well as granting the 3DS a selling point, this essentially translates as the first example of Pokemon DLC.
